THERE IS HOPE. BUT, I still do not trust Cashman.....

Unless he falls on his face in ST, they should give Lindgren every chance to be the LH reliever in the pen.
I believe the 2012 first round draft choices (Judge, Jagielo, Clarkin) could be difference makers...and I'll go out on a limb and say I will be surprised if at least 2 of them don't become big contributors to the Yanks in a couple of years.

Judge - from the get go was described as a big (obviousy) athletic slugger type who moves well around the outfield. Sounds like a possible stud.
He is probably your basic "can't miss being able to hit alot HRs at the big level" player-
-- and Jagielo is a good LH hitting prospect who should do well hitting at Yankee Stadium.
A lefty swinging 3B....I like the way it sounds already. lol

Clarkin ? who knows? Pitchers are funny...but it's nice to have a highly regarded LH starter draftee in the fold.

Unless the Yanks screw them up - I think the Yanks can expect good things soon from a few prospects.

Also -Refsnyder and Pirela MUST be given every chance to fill holes for the Yanks.
These kids are in their early 20s...it's getting close to the time they break-in with the Yanks.

21,22,23 years old is the new 24-25-26 for prospects nowadays...imo.

I agree with everything you said Lion.....

Never give up on those young prospects; never trade them until they have had more than their fair shake to prove themselves first, with sufficient time to do as much.

Makes me think tho' of Drew, in Single Upper A Ball. A D'Back Minor Lgr, for the Lancaster Jethwaks, Drew hit .389 in in 38 Games, 149 At Bats, with 10 HR's, 16 Doubles, 10 HR's, 26 Walks to 25 K's, .483 OBP, 738 Slg., 1.224 OPS

Definitely hope they let the roster get younger as the dinosaur contracts expire. This team have so many holes, there aren't too many FA options to buy a contending roster...at least for 2015. This is a restructuring phase to get us beyond ARod, Tex and CC. I would be surprised if the unofficial target for return to glory isn't 2017 or 2018.

Yeah, I'd also like to see some of the young kids get a chance.

Might as well evaluate our existing talent for a year and then target selective free agents. This is where the long contracts really impact the team. Not prior to the core4 retiring, I was in favor of using FA as the farm system. But were 1994 again and need to use some home grown talent and pepper the roster with choice FAs.

...Judge is an absolute monster. Hope he matures into the hitter I hope he can be.

...the RF and 2nd base jobs may very well go to a couple of the youngsters.

...and I'm liking the possible future of the pitching too.

Ron I think you're forgetting that one of the two positions you mentioned will be taken by Prado.

...nah, I didn't forget him. Prado is not a lock at 2B...I read that he and Pirela and Refsnyder will battle for the 2B job during ST (in fact, I think it was mentioned in the article that I linked in the OP)...and Prado may be used in another spot or as a utility guy...and don't forget we also have a question mark at 3B and SS.

Prado needs to be a full time player until he proves otherwise.

Shortstop- good question.

I'm thinking/hoping along the lines of some slick fielding kid on the farm who can at least hit .240 or so AND steal some bases. That'll do - unless they surprise us with some ready-made accomplished SS who can HIT. <--- doubtful.

Yanks do have some kids who put up very decent numbers down on the farm.
Refsnyder is going to be 24 yrs old when the 2015 season starts-
My advice to Cashman/Girardi WHOEVER is:
Get him up here before he turns into a minor league journeyman right before our eyes and play him until he proves he CAN'T do it...for crissakes! What the hell are they waiting for?

What about this Gregory Bird? Big lefty hitter 21 yrs old -- check out his numbers. A+ AA

Eric Jagielo- look at his numbers after they promoted him to A+
Looks like he's right on schedule...I'm really excited about THIS kid.
Good lefty swinging 3B playing his games (hopefully) at Yankee Stadium.

The Trade Chips
Everyone. Seriously. I don’t think the Yankees have any prospects worthy of being deemed untouchable. But, to use an old Brian Cashman phrase, some are more touchable than others. I mean, if the Marlins come calling and say they’re willing to deal Giancarlo Stanton as long as the package starts with Judge and Severino, how do the Yankees say no to that? They shouldn’t give anyone away but everyone should be available in the right situation. Cashman did a great job getting a lot for a little at the trade deadline this year and I’m sure that’s the approach he’ll take going forward.

This is from RAB. Not sure I do that deal before he got his face smashed in....definitely wouldn't do it now.

...yup, no way of knowing how his vision and/or his psyche will be affected until next year...big gamble.

...yeah, he does have experience at SS, though it's very limited.

Holy shit we need a shortstop. Like that sink in boys.
