The reason is that the Blazers replace with another player to fill that roster spot. If they didn't replace him that would be a different story.

This was from Haynes two weeks ago: https://sports.yahoo.com/report-trail-blazers-tried-persuade-190456369.html
With Rondo suddenly landing in the bubble, Lou Williams going in and out, and Mike Conley doing the same, it's kinda annoying that the league isn't giving our request a consideration

I don't think that how it works due to swanigan and Ariza still belongs to the Blazers. So they only can replace them with someone outside the organization like G- league player or someone not sign with another team.it could be said we brought in someone to fill Swannigans spot and we should still be allowed on more?
We didn't necessarily replace him. Biggie opted out too. In fact the NBA added an extra spot to the bubble roster therefore we actually had two roster spots that went unused. I was livid about that at the time since we already had very little depth and there were free agents out there that could be helping us. I don't know why Olshey didn't go out and get more help for the minimum (that's all these free agents were getting from other teams) and I don't know why the team didn't convince Ariza to opt-in but not show up so he could join us should he have wanted to since we did leave those roster spots open. The reason is that the Blazers replace with another player to fill that roster spot. If we woulda drafted MPJ last year this wouldn’t even matter![]()
Ed Davis has knee injury.Dame is clicking with Melo...CJ loves Melo...Melo will be a Blazer as long as we'll have him...that's my take...for Melo money isn't the deciding factor....Chief and Ed Davis played here for 7-8 mill a season...that's what I see Ariza and Melo doing..if anybody is gone next year it'll be Hassan....if he goes I'd consider bringing back Ed Davis as a backup
and we would be reading pages of posters complaining about his defenseIf we woulda drafted MPJ last year this wouldn’t even matter![]()

he got torched today, they couldn’t play him in the clutch
A flawed guy?How bout neither? Melo's like Enes Kanter: a flawed guy who's playing great in a playoff run, but you can do better. The only reason to keep Ariza (and have him take minutes that should be used developing Nas) is because he has a useful contract for a trade.
It was a joke hence theMinor detail Porter was drafted 14th and our pick was 24th. Also, i can imagine what you and some of the other posters would have said finding out he was going to essentially miss last years season.

Its the Blazers and Ariza fault they had his status set as opt out instead of the same status as Conley, Lou, Rondo, etc.
Ariza could have opt in, but reported late or just flown in then fly out for excused leave.
He opted to have no involvement at all, and this was a condition that he could not rejoin under any circumstance. Ariza and the Blazers agreed to this.
Lakers can't bring Avery Bradley in either. If you opt out your out.

i have three daughters. And I’m a very responsible Dad. Guessing Ariza had not been...but that’s not my point.
his month-long visitation is over and he could have rejoined the team - we are not hearing the entire story!
we won’t see Ariza in a Blazer uniform again
LeBron paid Ariza off.what's the entire story?
LeBron paid Ariza off.
This isn't meant to be an insult but you're talking out your ass. You have no fucking clue what the whole story is or if we will bring Ariza back. If you do have some true insider info please make me look like a fool and share it, if not you shouldn't make guesses about people that are so negative and insulting. Ariza played really well for us this year and I would be cool if we bring him back next year unless we have some moves to make that would upgrade that position.i have three daughters. Bold and cruel statement to guess and post that Ariza is an irresponsible dad. It tells more about you, that you would make such an assumption.
Ariza cannot rejoin the team per the NBA rules as he opted out, same as Avery Bradley and others.

This assumption is an incredible jump from what you know to what you imagine. It should honestly embarrass you as a human being and especially as a father. Imagine if someone accused you of using time with your child (who you only have partial custody of) as an excuse to get out of work. Now imagine that you've spent the last 15 years of your life proving that you are and being recognized as a consummate professional only to have people question your work ethic. What part of how he played for the Blazers this year showed a lack of professionalism or work ethic because from where I was watching he looked to be one of the hardest workers on the team. This is worse than some take that Skip Bayless would sputter out of his worthless mouth and you are operating with even less context than that fool.what do you know? He opted out! He used his child custody matter as an excuse. He could have opted IN and asked the team for a month long absence because of his situation...but no, he opted OUT completely!
We don’t need him. Bye bye Ariza.
bump this post in a few months from now when his ass is traded before he puts on the black and scarlet
