Exclusive MEMORIAL DAY 2020: What's the Haps?

Welcome to our community

There's a giant Mexican grocery north county Santa Barbara near Guadalupe beach that has fresh made tortas to die for....my two oldest son's live in San Luis Obispo area...I like that town on the coast
Is that where Cal Poly is? My great nephew plans to go to Cal Poly on a basketball scholarship this Fall.

I took a drive way out to a favorite hidden honey spot for cutthroat trout I've been fishing for years that's hard to get to....now it's impossible...huge shiny barbed wire fencing all around what used to be an open meadow I could cross....I'm thinkin' I'll have to drive a few miles downstream and hike the river to the spot the hard way if I want to fish there...time for a new spot I think...I want to explore south of my property and find a spot to fish for perch.
I thought cutthroat were sea run. They thrive in the coastal rivers here in Oregon.

Fresh water perch is my favorite eating fish. Eat some for me then have the audacity to tell me how good it was.

What stream are you fishing?

Perch are fun. Especially if you can find some decent sized ones, they’re good little fighters. Taste great too. I catch more perch in the winter time ice fishing. Usually catch a bunch of perch and crappie and have a fish fry. I mostly trout fish in the summer. My goal this summer is to land my first walleye.

The Long Tom River....not a popular fishing spot...lot of snags but the only place I've caught cutthroat trout...they are really delicious..pink flesh like salmon. It's a challenge to cast on that river but it's good practice for placing your hook without getting it snagged

Bass are pretty stupid fish....same fish will hit your bait over and over....trout you get one shot and they figure you out

It's the area called Guadalupe...which looks like a border town in Mexico...borders Nipomo just south of San Luis Obispo...biggest Mexican supermarket I've ever seen anywhere....the nearest college is in SLO

I was fishing in Missouri one time years ago. We were catching good sized Blue Gill and Crappie, buckets full. I was just screwing around and decided to cast back out a blue gill I had just caught. Next thing I know I had a good sized bass I was reeling in that had tried to eat the blue gill. I looked at my cousin like what in the hell just happened. Wish I had it on video.

I butterflied a chicken and made jerk roasted chicken last night. It was delicious. Probably will do it again. Can’t wait to rub my jerk sauce all over those breasts.

I just rubbed my jerk sauce all over my girls breasts and face.

Cutthroat are a fun catch. They like to put up a fight. Especially the sea run variety. I used to catch them on the Miami River at the mouth of the Tillamook Bay.

It's been a few years since I caught cutthroat. Sounds like fun, enjoy!

Didn't get a chance to stop, went to Firestone in SLO. Damn, that's some good brisket. It was crowded too. Dining in restaurant as well.

Started the morning in Santa Barbara. State street was blocked off, so pedestrians could have more space. Stores were open, local ones, not the national, I think they need to rehire everyone they laid off lolz.

Then to SLO. That is a cool little California town. More stuff was open here. It wasn't very crowded except the BBQ spot.

Be sure to proudly hoist your American Flag this weekend!

PEACE, bro!

Don't have to hoist mine. Mine has been sitting on a 20 foot lighted flag pole with a gold eagle on top for several years. Have a U.S. Army flag just below the U.S. flag.
I've got a Korean flag that I flew, just below the American flag, briefly when I first had the flag pole installed but my wife made me take it down because she was afraid of retribution from people who don't like Asians. Now, how sad is that

The pink flesh in salmon and steelhead comes from eating a type of shrimp.

Wow, SO cool, Lanny! And, thanks for sharing those insights. Sad, indeed. BTW, when I sold windows & doors in Portland metro, it occurred to me that there was a disproportionately large population of Asians in the Beaverton/Aloha sectors. Is that true?

PS: notice how I altered yank's avatar? MUWHAHAHA! ;)

White perch are widely abundant down here...and great tasting...I can take or leave bass and catfish.
I've eaten at an all you can eat catfish restaurant in Atlanta. It was all the catfish and all the french fries you wanted for one dollar. Yeah, it was a while ago.
Every time someone would play Dixie on the juke box we'd all go crazy and sing it in unison. I remember one guy jumping on top of his table to sing along. I felt a kinship to the South but never ever to racial bigotry which I've detested since I was 12.

This is the de facto standard Southern Anthem. I think they still play it every night during the Stone Mountain laser light show.

It's 5-o-clock somewhere.

We're having some huge thunderstorms this afternoon. However, I'm still planning on grilling some burgers on the kamado.

I made some baby backs on the traeger on Saturday. Got them from the local butcher shop. Had some friends over and they were a huge hit. Cooked for 6 hours, mr Stubbs pork rub, mustard, brown sugar, a little honey drizzled on after they had been smoking awhile. Spray with apple juice every hour.

My buddies wife who’s from Memphis said they are some of the best she’s had. She’s definitely not the type to blow hot air up anyone’s ass.

Anyways they were so good I decided to go down to Fred’s and get more. Got there and they were buy one get one free. Fuck yeah!
