Trying to clear enough capspace to sign a major free agent seems almost impossible; especially since there is no indication (as of today) that there will b an amnesty clause in the new agreement.

Yeah I read that. Would take a team taking on Turners contract via trade.

What's the point in having cap space? Neil generally targets the wrong players when he has it, and even if he targeted the right players chances are slim that they'd sign here.

Why not? A mediocre team has to go somewhere. There's no point being mediocre, and staying mediocre because you want to keep mediocre picks that don't push the team forwards.

That's why we would lottery (or Top 10) protect any pick of ours. The Cleveland pick is gonna be at the end of the first round.
I'd say this is not the season to give up a 1st rounder and future pick for....unless we're sweeping the next 20 games or so at least

Do you know of any guys you'd want around 20th this year? What about 30th next yeast with the Cavs pick?

I'd take an Amir Johnson signing for $12M/yr

LOPSIDED TRADE!!!!!

I kind of hope the Kings hold onto Cousins until the offseason. Will make it easier for us to trade CJ, and that's an offer that will be hard to match for other teams, unless GS offers up Klay or something. A cousins/curry/kd trio is something that looks better on paper than in reality though.

I'd rather just have Noel.
If he can prove he's not a headcase. Also that he can prove that he can convert his enormous defensive potential into useful team defense.

I think the main objection to Lopez is his defense, but (as covered in some other thread) he's actually pretty decent. He's also clearly, RIGHT NOW, far superior to a healthy Noel. Noel is a big gamble.

Yeah I know Lopez is a better player right now, I just think Noel's upside is worth the risk. He has the potential to be the ideal modern day center with the versatility to switch onto wings. He's also a pretty good passer and I'm guessing would take that part of his game to another level under Stotts.

I don't hate Lopez though. Just wonder how effective he is without the ball.

There was a Ric Bucher thing (can't be bothered to look up the link) that said that Thibs was ready to trade one of KAT, Wiggins and Lavine because he's getting frustrated in Minny. I absolutely believe it about Wiggins and Lavine (particularly the latter) but there's no way in hell he's trading KAT. Said he was looking for a player he was comfortable with, like Butler, Gibson or Deng. Obviously he's after strong defenders.

Dunno about ideal - I think we're swinging back the other way to real (i.e. over 7 ft and 260lbs) centers, what with Embiid, Whiteside, Boogie et. al. But he certainly has the ability to be the next Joakim Noah. But...

Sounds like a 21 year old. That shouldn't be a deal breaker. He'd be coming to a solid locker room with guys close to his age that could probably help him grow up a little.

Any interest in Omri Casspi? Thought he was a great fit for our roster last year. But with AC and ET already on the wings, might be unnecessary. Still. Feel bad for the guy. Joerger is an ass

The Sacramento Kings have given the representatives of Omri Casspi permission to search out potential trade partners. Dan Fegan represents Casspi as well as DeMarcus Cousins.

Casspi hasn't been part of Dave Joerger's rotations plans so far this season.

Casspi enjoyed a career year in 15-16 under George Karl.

Casspi will be a free agent in the 2017 offseason.

I borrowed this trade idea from another site. Thought it might be worth considering.

Crabbe & Vonleh for Bogut & Derron Williams.

This trade would clear about $4 million in cap space for the Blazers.
Both Willliams & Bogut are on expiring contracts.
Both Williams & Bogut are 32 years old, so they are not long term solutions.

I'd do that deal just to get out from the montrocity that is Crabbe's contract.

if Williams is willing to be a backup pg I'm somewhat ok with that. he would be great in that roll long as he was willing to accept it. but then again, we still have bazz and we aren't using him like that at all even though we should...

Here is something from a Lowe and Stein podcast: "The problem is, (Mo) Harkless is playing his *** off, and (Al-Farouq) Aminu is really good, and they have under market deals, and they are the two best trade chips, they're also really valuable to the Blazers. Evan Turner and Allen Crabbe have mega contracts, and they aren't playing up to them, frankly there aren't even enough minutes for them to play up to them and they are going to be tough to trade, so when do you start thinking about trading CJ McCollum? I think that's the move that gets them lot of stuff in return. He and Dame are very similar, and are deadly together, but they just aren't going to be a good enough defensive team with those two together."

What hit me is their statement that there aren't enough minutes for Turner and Crabbe to live up to their contracts. (Not to mention these guys just don't seem to mesh.) I understand that Turner is looking a lot better lately, but that's the thing that might make him tradeable. I don't think there is any way we could trade Crabbe, so one alternative is trade Turner and hope like hell that this would help Crabbe come out of his funk and become a player worth his contract; you would have to have the faith that he can do even more than last year.

One trade I have been thinking about is with Minnesota. Turner and Davis to them; Dieng and Pekovic contract to us. (Note, before BNM gets in here, I better note that Crabbe has been getting 28 minutes a game this season and Turner 24.6, so it seems there is almost enough minutes for both of them). I think it's possible that they can play together; Turner has adjusted and got on track; Crabbe could do the same.)

I'm all for Dieng. Been a fan since his college days.

I actually wonder if we could get Noel for less than we think. Philly doesn't really have leverage and Noel has made it pretty obvious he wants out. Could we maybe get him for a first rounder and ezeli's expiring contract?

We should also look into Nurkic. I would actually prefer him over any other big man not named Cousins. Don't know what Denver would want, but after the Barton deal, I could see them being open to doing business with Portland again. Maybe someone like Vonleh, who probably just needs consistent minutes to develop, kind of like Barton.

Unconfirmed rumor reported by Sam Amico.

Nerlens Noel Linked to Portland Trail Blazers

No other details on what Portland may be offering.
