Merged: All NBA Teams. No Dame

I obviously can't speak for PG, but being in the same time zone as family is a big deal for me. It might make Portland more palatable for him as well. And I agree with all in giving up whatever it takes of the picks and young talent to get PG. Would like to keep Vonleh, but I would even consider him if that's what it took.

He says he want to play for a contender. That doesn't sound like the Lakers to me.

And honestly, if I was the Blazers, I'd make George the No. 1 option on offense for at least one year to give him the best shot all making one of the all NBA teams. It's not like we're getting past GSW or CLE next year anyway. So, spend a year force feeding him the ball so he can pad his stats.

Dame is a team player and a true leader. I think he'd sacrifice his own stats (he already got his max contract) if it helps the team keep a player like George around for another 5 years. Dame is a big picture kind of guy and realizes that if we do have a championship window, it will be after GSW's and CLE's windows close. Dame + PG13 + C.J. + Nurk is a hell of a Big 4 and none of them currently over 27.

Make George the No. 1 option, at least for the first year. Hell, Steph Curry, the 2-time reigning MVP sacrificed his stats to incorporate Durant into the GSW offense. That sets a good precedent for Dame to do the same. Being the No. 1 option on a top 4 team will make him want to stay. Making one of the all NBA teams and getting a super max contract will seal the deal.

George can't get the super max if he's not on the team that drafted him, so making him first option if we traded for him would have no impact on his next contact value.

Oh shoot, you''re right. I thought as long as the team haled his Bird rights and he met the criteria of the super max deal, they could offer him the super max.

Well, that stinks.

Oh well, that should drive down his trade value. So, maybe a change of scenery, with better teammates and being a top 4 team would be enough to convince him to stay in PDX, since no one else could offer him more.

Lets think about this for a minute. Why does Paul George want to play on a team that had no all stars or all nba team members this year? Could that impact our decision to go after him? Sounds like he wants to win or play for the Lakers.

And no, you can't make the same argument for the Lakers. Because obviously he sees through piss colored glasses and loves the organization. Closer to home for him too.

I think we would be damn damn good with him. But we were a 8th seed this year if you look at it at face value. Yes, we played better with Nurkic but..... will George care?

It wouldn't be about how good we were last year without George (and for the most part, Nurkic). It would be about how great we can be next year with both. And make no mistake, this team healthy plus George is a contender.

Sure, we may think that. The question that matters is, does George?

What he thinks now wouldn't matter. All that would matter would be what he experiences next season if he's (shockingly) traded here.

With PG we would scare both the warriors and Cleveland. Durant it not sure if he going to resign with the WARRIORS.

And ya know, what Neil thinks. And what George thinks after being sold by Neil.

No way we give up assets for a guy that straight up says he wouldnt want to stay in portland.

Not saying he will say that. But it still matters today too.

Good point. If they cant sell him now on a re-signing, then NO will probably pass. And then it doesnt matter what PG thinks next year. It only matter what he thinks now.

CP3 only played in 61 games.

With CP3 and Blake Griffin not making it, and the Lakers being a dumpster fire, it seems like the voters felt obligated to have at least one Los Angeles player make all NBA. That became Jordan by default.

BNM

And still almost made it. He was was only 4 votes behind Jordan.

To be fair, given who made the team ahead of Dame, it's probably fair that he isn't there. All point guards in there played for better teams who ended up with much superior records.

As for Paul George coming here - not gonna happen.

Its pretty fucking hilarious that the Warriors Beat writers are probably the only ones who voted for the Warriors to make the All NBA first team. Weak sauce!

Can someone explain to me why everyone is saying that Paul George will definitively not be eligible for the DVE when he becomes a free agent next summer? Everything I've read indicates that if he makes an all-NBA team this next season, it should still be available to him.

To be eligible, a player needs to be named to any of the three All-NBA teams or as Defensive Player of the Year in either the season preceding the extension or two of the three prior seasons. It will also apply to the league’s Most Valuable Player in any of the three seasons before the extension.

It's not that he couldn't still get that but for that to happen you have to take the chance that he walks for absolutely nothing at the end of next year. He could still make one of those but it would be well passed the Trade Deadline before you would find out. If he did, they could still save him last minute but that is taking quite a chance especially when he has already expressed interest in leaving.

The hope for Indy was for him to make one of those requirements this year so they could extend him this summer before the final pre-season roster juggling and the Feb 2018 deadline.

The new deal will also include “designated player veteran extensions,” which will apply to players entering their eighth or ninth season with their original franchise (or if the player was traded to their existing team at some point during their first four years in the NBA).
My question would be whether he could sign and trade with that extension. And I found my answer:

Such a player will not be trade eligible for a full year upon signing.
