Merged: Blazers control of media content....

Listened to the BE podcast by Dave Deckard with guests Ben Golliver and Isaac Ropp.

Issac was the first guest. His story makes sense and probably true. Not sure all of his hatred for Olshey is justified, or where it comes from. He is slightly bitter over the firing, in-spite of saying he is not.

Ben Golliver gave a healthy prospective as a former Portland journalist. He agreed all of the conditions are in place for the Blazers to control CSN. Without the Blazers, CSN probably does not exist. Without naming names, he basically confirmed Issac's story is probably true. He also confirmed there are very sensitive people running the organization, and hate any type of criticism.

Dave summed it up by agreeing with Ben that the Blazers probably are trying to control the media to some extent, and we should question everything from now on.

Apparently he was being too critical of Olshey and Stotts. this article links to some of his tweets about the team. Issac Ropp thinks Neil Olshey got him fired. Issac worked for CSN, so it would be interesting if the Blazers could get CSN media fired for saying bad things about the team.

There's also a link in the article to Issac talking about this on his radio show. He says Olshey is super sensitive and watches closely everything said about him.

Anyway, I've not watched a game in quite awhile now. This season is just too boring.

Opps, sorry, looks like there is already a thread about this

You may not be able to say anything...but I'm going to make it clear...

Neil needs to go. He has been here for 6 years and the team is worse off then when he took it over. I've been on record with much disagreement by a lot of you that he is very incompetent at what he does. His do things by default has hurt this team in many ways.
The anti-neil sentiment seems to be growing, from earlier in the year where people where throwing crap at me for simply asking if he's on the hot seat. Who knows what is going on in Paul Allen's mind, but as an owner, I know I would not appreciate the salary to product ratio this team gives. It's the worst in the league in that respect.

Neil was an actor before a GM, maybe Ropp is on to something with those "sports trump" comments...

That's always been true.

Now all of the guys on Talkin Ball will sugar coat everything. There all afraid of Olshey.

If the team sucks, say it.

And they've mostly sucked this year.

It's like our team is being run by the group of parents at the YMCA basketball games.

I noticed that Mike Barrett lost all of his commercial gigs after getting axed by the Blazers. I wonder if the Blazers had anything to do with that.

Meh, he's not a "celebrity" anymore.

If it's true that the trail blazers can hire and fire people that don't "sugar coat" things, then why is it that Chad Doing, who works for 620 AM, and sometimes hosts the 5th quarter, still has a job?

He doesn't sugar coat anything, and if anything, he probably is a little overly negative about losses.

The ONLY reason Mike Barrett got those jobs in the first place, was BECAUSE he worked for the team. Why would Wilsonville Toyota (or whatever it was he did those commercials for) continue to have him do commercials? He's not on tv anymore. The only way the Blazers had anything to do with him no longer doing endorsements was the fact they fired him.

Can you do me a favor, I'm really busy today but there is some confusion in the forum. Can you explain what McGowen is in charge of and overseas vs Olshey. That should really occur before we lynch anyone up.

I know it's way after the fact, but you bring up a good point that I tend to overlook in general. When things go south with the team, I immediately assume the head cheese is responsible (N.O.), when we actually have 2 of them.

McGowan, 43, oversees all of the day-to-day operations of the Trail Blazers & Rose Quarter business including arena operations, ticket sales and service, corporate partnerships, premium seating, analytics, brand strategy and digital, corporate communications, broadcasting, social responsibility, digital, finance, and people and culture.

Seems to me a situation like this would be more of an issue to McGowan, even though it doesn't sound like this one is the case....

Surely Olshey and McGowan are in contact? It seems reasonable Olshey might have gotten pissed and then had McGowan make the call to CSNW to demand that Ropp be removed.

Chad has toned it down quite a bit from earlier in the season. It is a much softer opening monologue than earlier in the season when it was a flat out histrionic rant. It was pretty funny at times. Now when he calls out the team it has a negative tone to it but is much more reserved.

Sure. That makes the most sense. It may be awhile (if ever) before we find out exactly what happened. Maybe Isaac was just talking BS? Doesn't seem that way from all of the other comments from other people though. Especially Quick, when he says he has to bite his tounge (my words). I was just saying that Sly does bring up a good point that I tend to overlook. I tend to think all things are done by Neil, when in reality, it could be actually Chris that is doing the stuff....

I've been working earnestly and overtime on here and Twitter to get him to create an account so he can open up a can of whoop ass on me. And also to have him tell me to "remove the pic...NOW!" Like only a 'Sports Trump' would do.

Fix the team Neil! I don't believe for a moment your as bad as you have been for this club for 5 years. You can do this. So do it.

Isaac and Suke are fucking terrible. Just fucking awful. Some of the worst commentators in the nation without a doubt. Isaac was a terrible host on that CSN postgame show THATS why he got fired he constantly looked and sounded like he had a stick shoved up his ass. None of this controlling content nonsense youre trying to push.

Ive been inquiring once in a while for a couple of years about Blazers radio and what is out there and what is the best. Not much out there, but of what is, Isaac and Suke won me over. They are funny and quick witted compared to anyone else on the radio around here. So until someone moves in and sweeps me off my feet, they get my radio time.
And for the record, I also love that they aren't homers and say it like it is. And if you read the story and listen to what happened (all be it, Ive heard mostly only one side) It is absolutely a sock in the mouth to shut up the negativity.

If NO really got someone whom was negative towards him/Stotts, then why is Jaynes still employed?
Why does Aaron Fentress appear on pregame/talkinball at times.
IMO Isaac offered no new opinions on the pre/post game shows, no "expert analysis", and really seems pretty smug.
His crying and needing to "explain" why he was "fired" is pretty childish. Made the right decision giving him the axe.

I'm not defending NO/Stotts because frankly while the NBA is a "what have you done with me recently" league.
But to say they got Isaac fired... pretty silly. Considering the other negative broadcasters CSN/Blazers employ.
Isaac seems pretty close to McGowan in terms of douchebaggery.

Crawford wasn't very welcome here. People called him Crawful.

Even though the guy is from the northwest, he didn't ultimately seem happy here.

I remember during a Clippers game that season Mike & Mike saying on the broadcast after a commercial break.
That Crawford just said to the Clippers team/bench that he wanted to play there.
If the HC/GM had any balls, Crawford would have been benched for the rest of the season.
JCrossver, more like JBrick.

Fentress is a rare fill in when other people are out. I've been told Neil doesn't like him at all. Jaynes is pretty soft in his criticism anymore and he and Neil are on pretty good terms.

I understand there are people on this forum like you who've had/do have people who are close/have been close to teams.
But really I'm not going to take things at face value, unless someone is willing to own what they say.
Well and doesn't sound like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum.
Nothing against you, I just view it like I do reporters who say "an unnamed/anonymous source"
Or
Anonymous gm/players who say what's on their mind but don't have the balls to own it.

Jaynes might not name, names but he still criticizes the offense/defense.
Fentress was always rare, but still when he does show up he is always super harsh with his criticism.

Partially because of my job, I have spoken with many of these people personally. Am I going to directly quote them or identify them? Absolutely not.

C'Mon bro! Give us that inside scoop!

An anonymous source isn't gospel, can't expect people to take it as such.
It's completely reasonable and logical to be skeptical of " anonymous sources".
Hell I could say I have an anonymous source that told me NO is going to trade for Melo.
That one of my lady-friend is close to his wife.
Holds just as much weight as you.

Apparently I'm not allowed to be skeptical of people who will/can never own something.
I think I was told this during the election too... Fall in line dumb millennial, vote for Clinton.
I was even extremely nice in my previous post. We'll see if that happens again.

^^^....be as skeptical as you like. The people that have known me for years know where some of this comes from . No worries.
