Merged: Crabbe Traded to Brk

it seems like this is a qualifier for everyone. If we get gordon straight up for the TPE then this trade is a win. If not, is it a loss?

I think you have to chalk it up as a loss. Neil rolled the dice that he could move Crabbe this summer for assets instead of losing him for nothing, but the cap went down and we were caught out in the cold. The fact that we had to take back Nicholson's contract and essentially pay to have BKN take him off our hands is a loss. It's less of a loss than eating his contract for the duration, but it's still a loss.

I don't think it does. The way I see it was Neil matched the offer last year in an attempt to create an extra asset in case we were able to be in a situation where a star was shopped (i.e Paul George) and we needed a large salary to help match without giving up CJ or Dame. Well It didn't work , so he dumped the contract........ just like I said he could if needed. (without giving up a 1st round draft pick) Was it wise? who knows but at least he tried.
Yes. It was a good strategy. A good strategy doesn't always pan out, but it was worth a try, and a trade exception.

Depends to me upon the player Neil has targeted to fill a roster spot...could be a real upgrade nobody is aware of....I like surprises when it comes to the offseason

That doesn't work either. The Rockets have already use their non-tax payer MLE to sign P.J. Tucker. So, they can't go over the luxury tax apron at any point before the end of the 2017-18 season. In addition the Gordon/TPE and Ariza to NYK deals, they'd need to send out another $4.15 million to clear the space to get Carmelo.

BNM
Portland in: Ariza, Gordon
Out: harkless

Gordon absorbed by 30k into the tpe (an almost perfect fit)

Houston in: Anthony
Houston out: Ariza, Gordon, long, quarterman, onuaku, Taylor
I'd put utohff instead of onuaku, but shows he can't be paired. So Houston gets "pressured" by us to do Gordon and ariza instead of Anderson, but get their guy in Carmelo.

Knicks in: harkless and non guaranteed guys.
Out: Anthony
Knicks add harkless, and shed 16 million in salary for next season.

Unfortunately, we can't combine that TPE with our existing contracts in a trade, and our pick of the litter at $13 mil and under isn't anywhere close to netting us a disgruntled star level player.
How about two disgruntled not star level players? Just as good, right? ;)

We'd need to get a backup center, badly.

I still say Swanigan is the backup center with his wide body, and Collins (because he is quicker on the perimeter and a decent weakside shot blocker) is your backup PF. Maybe not ideal as they are both rookies, but a better backup center than we have had in awhile.

What if we use the exception on Gordon (or other shooter)? In effect trading Crabbe for Gordon (or other shooter). Still not a win?
Gordon is a worse shooting more injury prone version of Crabbe. He's not good.

Sending out Crabbe and Harkless would be a travesty.

He won 6th man of the year....... :dunno:
Just because he played in a fast paced offense and got enough shots to average 15ppg. He's a one-dimensional, injury prone version of Crabbe. He's extremely overrated.

Gordon is a better player than Crabbe. Not a huge upgrade - and clearly not the shooter that AC is - but he can handle the ball and can attack the rim, so there's that.
The both shoot 5.5 2pt FGs per 36, and Crabbe shot 49% to Gordon's 47%.

I'm telling you guys, you don't want Gordon. He's extremely overrated.

He isn't any version of Crabbe. Together they make the number "10", with Crabbe being the "1".

I'm not a huge fan of Gordon because of how streaky he is, but he can go off big in games at times. And he and Ariza would bring some toughness (when not injured) and vet experience.

You should really send out flyers to let the league know that they messed up by giving him that award.
You win that award by averaging 15ppg off the bench, regardless of efficiency and how good/bad your defense is.

Oh Gawd *edited: Express your opinions without personal attacks, thanks!*. This is just false.

Gordon did get his 37% on threes taking almost 9 attempts a game--more than double Crabbe's attempts. Maybe part of it has to do with Crabbe's lack of aggression and lack of handles.

What's false? Let's have an intellectual conversation about this.

WTF did you say to me?

Extrapolate

Comparing Gordon's percentages to Crabbe's isn't at all apples to apples. Crabbe virtually only shoots when left wide open. Gordon shot his 37% from three while being willing to take contested threes. There are only so many wide-open shots available--you're hard limited as a player if you can't take and make contested shots.

That Gordon is a bad player? That AC is somehow better? I mean if all you look at is shooting% then Dame is a below average player. It is common knowledge more usage will equal a lower shooting% and the fact that he does so much more than AC and only shoots 2% less is all the argument I need
