Merged: Oden has bone chip in left knee

Saw this on the olive forum. I guess Casey from blazers.com says oden has a crack in the bone (look at comments to his article) and if thats the case usually it takes a cast and 6 weeks. Blazers have no official word and oden says he will "wait till he gets back to portland"

anyone have knowledge on this injury? if its a crack its a lot worse for recovery time.

Hey Casey, ESPN is reporting that Greg has a cracked patella. Can you find out if that's correct? I mean, that sounds pretty bad. How bad is this "sore knee?" Is it like last year when his knee swoll up and next thing you know, whoops, microfracture? If you could get some verification on the injury that would be great. Thanks.

It was the result of that collision with Corey Maggette (they banged knees) Thursday night at Golden State.

Chip fractures, similar to avulsions, are normally not serious and when the swelling goes down, I assume he could be ready for at least limited duty. There’s a side of me that thinks Oden sitting out the silly All-Star Weekend exhibition game was a good thing — it would have been his third game in three nights. NBA teams for the last several seasons have been prohibited from playing three games in three nights but the rookie-sophomore game doesn’t count, obviously.

The Blazers list Oden as day-to-day, but as Dan and Keith used to say, “Aren’t we all?”

Go ahead, Oden haters, have at him.

He mentions that it's not serious, and would probably have played were it a regular season game. He also says he will get it further evaluated by team doctors on Tuesday once he returns to Portland.

Hey Chicken Little, take a Valium. A chipped patella does not indicate casting his leg and putting him out for six weeks. Think about it, why in god's name would a doctor cast a non-weight bearing, or non-structural bone -- that's like saying they should put a cast on somebody's ass if they broke their tailbone. I'm guessing he'll wear a knee pad to keep it from getting banged around, but I'd be very surprised if he missed a single game.

Oden has been hurt for most of his competitive basketball life in one way or another. Mixum has every right to be concerned as does anyone who hopes Greg will be the hub of this teams defense!

BTW- This is exactly why making sure we have Joel signed for years to come is so FUCKING IMPORTANT!!! Our team right now doesn't miss much of a beat when Greg does go down.

My friend's sister works in a hospital in Phoenix and told my friend that she saw an NBA player go by on a gurney. She said they were wearing some sort of all star uniform. She said she thought it was Tim Duncan, apparently she doesn't know much about the NBA, so who knows who it was... I wonder if it was Oden to get his MRI. This was more than 24 hours ago.

And yet the same people that aren't smart and/or polite enough to simply put him on their "ignore" list.

It's sad and it's pathetic and it's MUCH worse than a guy making threads that repeatedly articulate positions of angst... irrespective of whether many/most of us agree with the issue or not.

Yes, there is an ignore feature. Yes, you CAN ignore threads that he starts, and yes it IS your fault if you choose to participate and then (for whatever reason) become enraged by his posts.

If you attack him, and then people attack you for attacking him, it muddies the board. MIXUM, say what you want about him, posts about the BLAZERS.
