Re: Soccer sucks.

lol @ worst dive ever. If you want to know one major reason American's don't like Soccer, look no further than diving. It's the #1 complaint my friends have about soccer, not lack of scoring. That one is funny though.

Worst dive of all:

Sortof reminds me of this moment in (American) football (comes at the end of the clip):

Re: Soccer sucks.

Diving is one of those things that fan's can't stand. Arsenal is one of the worst. Just look up any clip of Jens Lehmann or Thiery Henry with the word "dive" on YouTube. But you get it a lot in Italian leagues and anything in South America. But, that said I think a small share of "diving" comes from either an anticipation of contact and small amounts of contact at high speed. When you are using your feet to move you and to move the ball and something trips you up or throws you off, it does mess with your balance.

But the thing is, there are the same obnoxious things in any sport and those who claim it's a big reason they don't like the sport are just (usually) repeating something they heard someone say. How seriously would you take me if I said that I can't be a fan of basketball because most people take more than 2 steps when going for a dunk? Or that I can't like the NFL because it's obnoxious how people celebrate every play like they just won the league (congrats, you made a tackle, get over it). Or that I can't like baseball because runners slide into the shortstop instead of the bag to break up a double play.

All of those things are extremely lame, but part of the sport and I would be retarded for making a judgement based on a pet peeve. Hate the diver, not the sport in which the diver is disgracing.

Re: Soccer sucks.

I watched the Brazil v N. Korea match today. Brazil is good. And pretty entertaining. Even without scoring a ton of goals they were attacking a lot and it created the impression that they could score at any moment. That made a difference for me, and I'm sure for other casual viewers. Plus I wanted to see if any N Korean player would smile even once. I was surprised to see emotion and even a little sportsmanship from them. The announcers said the N Korean fans in the stadium were paid actors from China. Fucking weird.

I'm contemplating get up at 6:30am for the USA game Friday morning. I believe it's being played at 9:30am ET.

Yeah Brazil are always fun to watch. I was very impressed with N. Korea, it was like someone was holding their families hostage back home. They played really well (if overly defensive -- it was like watching Bolton play at times) for most of the game, even got a goal out of it, which is surprising.

Must be hard on the west coast watching so early...

Re: Soccer sucks.

Diving sux! American players are not divers, be proud. USA! USA!

Re: Soccer sucks.

Rivaldo is fucking ****! Tragic that he drew a red card here:

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

All these Rob Green jokes are getting out of hand. In fact, they're crossing the line.

Re: Soccer sucks.

Anyway why don't you guys watch some FIFA Fairplay videos to counterbalance this slander that is going on here :)
Guy refuses a penalty cause he didn't feel he deserved it:

Keeper injured, player catches ball to stop play when his team had the advantage:

A player is returning the ball to the other team after an injury, but accidentally scores, his team allows the other team to put in a goal to make up for it:

Player tells ref he wasn't fouled:

Unfortunately "FIFA Fair Play" is not as common as diving, but you never seen anything like this in American sports.

Re: Soccer sucks.

Those videos are awesome. I love the one where the keeper is injured and the player catches the ball. That is amazing to me.

Definitely not in American pro sports anyway. I've seen a lot of the same sort of stuff while playing pickup ball. Maybe we should let the players call their own fouls in the NBA??? Hmmm...

I was gonna mention the same thing about pickup basketball.

Perhaps Fabregas will see what will happen when he moves to Barcelona... Say hello to the bench, mate.

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

Anyone catch the stunt by then Dutch . . . a beer comapany dressing models in all orange to advertise their product. Some of the girls were arrested . . . makes me want to go to south africa and get arrested to share a cell with them.

Somebody who is more computer savy than me please post the picture. :)

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

Sure they played well but they couldn't finish. They could prance around and look good all they want but if they don't score than who cares how much possession or how good they looked. I do hope they get out the group and end up playing Brazil right away. That could be interesting

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

So I was watching some replays of the swiss score on spain, and it seemed like the spanish keeper actually knocked it in. Any agreement here?

Re: Soccer sucks.

Who else is with me. Constantly sick of the media trying to shove a sport down our throats.

Look at this week's Time magazine. They do these stories everytime the fucking world cup comes on and its basically just a bunch of articles about how Soccer is "really picking up steam". Then its over and people just continue not giving a fuck about it.

Reminds me of the "Stuff White People Like":

Ratings are double what they were 4 years ago so far.

Yeah, deffo a media myth that it's catching on.

Deal with it fucko ;)

PPS the tournament has been pretty shit so far and very dizpointing. Not enough goals is never the problem as some would like to simplify.

It's the lack of chances, good attacking football, passing, etc.

the ball bounces as if it's on artificial turf and is flying into row Z on any shot from outside the box.

hoping the 2nd round of games (and so far so good) get this tournament turned around.

Hopefully Slovenia get AIDS this week

(Bad AIDS)

Nope, I originally thought that but to me it still comes off of Fernandes. It is very close but I definitely see Fernandes make complete contact instead of Casillas.

If that wasn't a goal, Casillas would of been sent-off and Swizterland woud of been given a penalty. That was a horrendous tackle at first.
