probably before the match against the Netherlands.. that game Beasley showed me some decent decision making skills.

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

Slight doubt.

Been hurt and inconsistent.

And what wheels said.

Yeah honestly he was on the outs IMO but kinda played his way back into favor starting then.

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

Not impressed with the World Cup squads, to be honest.

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

Who's the favorite going into the tourny? Spain?

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

I want to watch the US soccer team during the world cup, but know next to nothing about soccer.

I just read that Brazil is the favorite, but could someone explain to me who the other big teams are? Is the U.S. any good? Are they expected to advance at all? Or should I expect pain and misery? How about the other teams in their group? Please talk very slowly, like you're talking to a ri-tard.

This could help.

'Top' teams: Brazil, Spain, Italy, France, Argentina, Netherlands, England, Portugal, and Germany.

Brazil and Spain are the favorites with Brazil just in-front. Netherlands are the only 'top' nation to not win the World Cup. USA are average to me, but I can see them reaching the quarter-finals which would still be a good feat. The African teams (ie: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon) are much stronger than most people think and will steal a couple of points here and there in the group stages.

I would rate USA, Mexico, Serbia, Sweden, Russia (not in), Croatia (not in), Czech Republic (not in), in the same category but they're a little bit stronger than the African teams (besides Ivory Coast who are very solid). By the way, it is quite a shock that Croatia, Czech Republic, and Russia are out as they were great in the Euro Cup but failed in the qualifiers.

I would then rate nations such as Uruguay, Korea, Greece, Slovenia, Australia, Denmark, Paraguay, Switzerland as teams that don't have much to play for but will be hard to get three-points off, if that makes sense.

Then you have the awful teams such as Albania and North Korea, etc.

I can see the USA getting 2nd in their group quite easily (England, Algeria and Slovenia are in the same group) but they need to get all points off of Algeria and Slovenia and a possible point off of England (not going to happen! :)).

Spain and Brazil should be the favorites

Argentina on paper is the best team prob, but there players (Looking at messi) havent really showed up on the international stage

I also think that England, in US's group is very very strong, and could win it all. I would pick those 4 teams to all be in the semis.

About US

I dont know much about the US because im kind of a US hater is u will. With that said i do know a little about the other teams. Like ive said England is a powerhouse, pencil in a L for that group game.

Slovenia: Really caught lighning in a bottle and knocked off Russia in a Playoff. I expect them to put up a fight, but i think the US can do away with them. US will either beat them or Tie
Algeria: No threat at all really. I was really suprised with their win over egypt in their playoff but nothing they have really worry me (or the US) US wins that game comfortably

So in terms of that group i think it will finish:
England: W-W-W
US: L-W-W
Slovenia: W-L-L
Algeria: L-L-L

USA will advance on GD (goal difference), for me.

They would not need any points from england for 2nd place if they beat algeria and slovenia

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

The problem is that after the US get out, they would either play Group D winner or 2nd place

Those two slots being Germany and Serbia.

And i fully expect Germany OR Serbia to destroy the US

Not in a million fucking years.

The back 4 is a mess, Stevie Me has his head in the clouds (had his worst ever season/getting a divorce) and Rooney can't stay fit.

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

you mean John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, ashley cole?

how is their back 4 a mess

For a start you only listed 3 which says a lot.

John Terry is a donkey and is going to get torn to shreds by anyone with an ounce of pace and Rio has started exactly 12 games at United this season due to injury.

Ashley Cole is alright.

Ashley Cole, John Terry (no matter how much shit he has been through, he just won the Premiership which is a big boost to his confidence), Michael Dawson (he has been flawless for Spurs but doesn't have much experience on the national stage. Can still perform well), Glen Johnson (pure class), Ferdinand (he has been shite but is still a good player to have in any squad). I don't think it looks too bad.

Dawson is excellent.

Terry was poor this season on and off the field. (Also left training today with a knock)

I wouldn't call Glen Johnson "pure class" .... but I suppose it's just an opinion.

Rio's groin might explode at any moment.

Just don't see it.

That being said, they'll walk the group stage.

It was a bit of an over-exaggeration but I believe he has the quality to perform at any top level.

I'm more concerned with our midfield than our back four, to be honest. Not sure how Capello is going to utilize all the 'talent'

Re: Official World Cup Thread:

I missed a good debate here about teams, this is why this discussion should happen in the World Cup forums we have here. (thread for each group etc) ;)

Maybe you should stop being so sarcastic if you want serious debate.

When and if you decide that you DO want to have a serious chat about footyball (as the English call it) I'll be more than happy to do so here or in a chatroom of your choice.

But, if you're just going to continue to throw words like "world class" "brilliant" or "lift" around, forget it.

CK, you use "etc" in every one of your posts, threads, etc.

I don't think you understand that the words, "top class". It is quite a common phrase in England to describe "good" but it doesn't mean they're in the best in the world or the best thing in it's category. IE: PES is top class. Lewis Hamilton is top class. Your mum is top class, etc.

You could venture out of your cave and take a look at some of the threads in there, but perhaps the debate is a little bit too much for you? ;)
