Merged: One more Chris Paul Thread (1 Viewer)

I think it's obvious that KP has set his sights on Paul, and now he's just trying to find a combination that will work.

I'm beginning to think that, too. Chris Paul has become his white whale and will make or break his Trail Blazers career. Appropriate, since his advocacy for Paul is what sortof propelled him to higher visibility (at least among fans).

STOP STOP STOP..... sigh.... sad how much these thoughts can consume one

Let's look at what we know:

1) Paul is open to a trade.

2) Paul is said to be available.

3) The Hornets want expirings and some talent.

I don't think it's as impossible as some make it out to be. It's just a matter of putting together the right package, but the real question is whether they blow up too much of the roster to make it happen. We don't want another Kiki.

Re: One more Chris Paul Thread

Aldridge is always considered a third fiddle. He may not be perfect (and I have compalined about him in the past), but he would be the perfect third fiddle to these two IMO. Batum is nice, but is not the proven scorer Aldridge is.

Batum isn't the proven scorer that Aldridge is, but he has a diverse skillset and a ton of potential at his age, while Aldridge seems to be near his ceiling (unless he has a break out season remaining after a few seasons of relatively minimal growth). I'm pretty divided as to which I value higher but I might pick Batum as I generally am inclined to bet on the higher risk/potential (as a tie-breaker).

Well with Oden/Camby as a good low-post/ finish at the rim/ baby hook shot, player LMA can be a mid range jumper guy. But I question LMA's tough, push back into position, kind of guy that we need without the other low post presence. Basically what my rambling is saying, he hit his ceiling and I'm not a fan of what it is. Batum hasn't hit his ceiling and i'm a fan of what he already brings.

Nate makes a great point.

I wonder if this is what Mike Rice was hinting at today when he said if some moves get done today that it should be a very big day on draft night.

does anyone else fear what this might mean in a superstitious sense?

BTW what a fucking fantastic 9000th post

No, then we would have missed out on Martell and Jarrett.

barfo

well you have to consider what happened to us after that season too. Perhaps we would have done better and not had a chance to draft Roy and LMA...

All I know is that tomorrow better be a pretty big fucking day. Or else I'm going to set Firefox to filter out "Quick reports," "Yahoo reports," and all mentions of Chris Paul.

it must be done.

For those who want Batum over Aldridge, that is fine. But therre is a reason Paul mentioned Aldridge and not Batum and Oden. If we were to get Paul, we want him to be happy and keeping Roy and Aldridge is what apparently what he wants. So bye bye Batum and Oden if we want to even have New Orleans listen.

Please do, might as well just delete them

CP3 = KP's white whale.

Dead on.

Come on Monty, do us a favor. You know you want Batum. You know it!!

A savage, voodoo harpooner who fasts and doesn't communicate well?

I won't even venture a guess...

One thing I keep forgetting is the Paul is also a BYC player. So he will count about $6.8 mil for trade purposes. Not the $13.5 previously assumed. After July 1, his BYC will expire, and his salary will count as $14.9 mil.

Just FYI.

That's why it must be now.

That's why it must be now.

Maybe, but Okafor + CP3 (he has a 15% trade kicker also) NOW = ~18mil

Okafor + CP3 post July 1= ~28mil

Now, we can get it done with fewer pieces, but after July 1, getting within the -100k, / 1.25 value of $28mil (adding to total of $22.3 mil from our side) isn't going to be too hard if the principle pieces going out are Dre/Joel/Greg.

from Wojo, http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-chrispaul062310 :

When the possibility of the Portland Trail Blazers making a bid on Paul was brought to him, a source said, Paul’s reaction was simple: Why would I want to go there if they have to trade LaMarcus Aldridge(notes) or Brandon Roy(notes) to get me? I’d want to play with those players.

That’s the problem with trying to trade Paul. For one of the best point guards in the NBA, the Hornets would want no less than a young All-Star caliber player, a starter and draft picks. Only then, what kind of gutted core would await Paul with his new team?

Portland has bordered on tampering with Paul for two years now, and it’s never been much of a secret within the Hornets’ organization that the Blazers have gone to great lengths to make Paul aware of how badly they want him. It didn’t go unnoticed when Blazers president Larry Miller – a former Nike executive who had dealings with Paul – cozied up to the Hornets star on New Orleans’ trips to the Rose Garden. It is what it is, but most agree the Blazers have been merciless in trying to get into Paul’s ear – and those around him – to convince him to create a stir and force his way out.

bold is my emphasis.

@FletcherMackel CP3 trade talk burning up internet. But people should know...he's only getting traded if a team will take Okafor or Posey with him!

BLAZERS WILL!!!
