Re: Hedo is NOT coming!

There are no smoke screens in free agency. This isn't the draft.

BINGO

"Hey lets call Hedo's agent and offer 9 mil per/ that was Andre Miller will come here for 6."

If anyone is in the position to pull a smoke screen in FA market it's the player you nitwits.

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

So confusing with the thread merge...

lol I was thinking the same thing.. I didnt know where the hell I was.

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

He will spread the defense and thus make it easier for

Roy to drive
LA to work down low
Oden generally

Re: Hedo Turkoglu Welcome Thread

Wasn't it Hedo who hit the buzzer beater against Portland last season?

Yes, but he BANKED it in!

I saw him a lot in Sacramento and saw nothing that made me oppose him. And having been happy in Sacramento, he'll do just fine in Portland.

Here's a cool factoid about Hedo that might (not to stereotype you, but I'm guessing) warm your heart to him a little:

Mert Uyar said:
Kaan Kural, the most famous Turkish NBA analyst says there is one more important part to this story. "Hedo, in addition to his all characteristics, is respectful. Especially he never forget his former coach Leyla Caliskan. When he was a junior, his coach changed gender, and became a woman. Many parents overreacted to this but he always respected her. He never cared about complaints and gossip. He never ignored the importance of his coach in his basketball career. Because Caliskan forced him to play as a point guard and helped to be the best tall guard since Magic Johnson. (Pippen was also a tall player but he never had such play-maker characteristics.) So, Hedo never forget his coach. He always supported him and still has been showing his respect."

Obviously the writer's a little confused, but Hedo doesn't seem to be.

Re: CBS Sports reporting Blazers after Turkoglu / Quick reports talks with Hedo's age

I think it's a step backwards.

That is one prophecy that will not come true. What are you some Travis Outlaw homer or something? Waiting to see him and his one good quarter out of every 3 games totally fuck us in the playoffs again?

I think one could point to Dwight Howard reportedly pleading with him last night at a WNBA game (according to espn this morning) to not leave because of his importance to the team. Dwight and KP both see his value. If nothing else he will be able to get the ball down low to both LaMarcus and Greg, and will be bale to take some scoring pressure off of Roy.

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

Yes, but he BANKED it in!

I was watching in HD and He clearly yelled "BANKA!!!!!!" before the shot

Wow, I did not know that story. Yes it does warm my heart and no, it is not stereotyping to think that I would like a person who accepts and respects transpeople.

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

Do you guys feel like Hedo can put you guys in the contender level?

I do yes. He plays the pick and roll good. He fits with our culture, which is more important then ppl give it credit for. He is a great shooter, which will open up the paint for LMA and Oden. He is a great passer, not selfish. A good fit and maybe a bit of a risk, but a good risk. He can also play some backup PF and some point forward if we need another ball handler, so Roy doesn't have to do all the work.

I still think if we get Hedo we look to move Outlaw and parts to Chicago for Kirk.

That would make the most sense and I would be cool with that. With Hedo coming, SF is flooded and we can afford to use one to get a better PG.

wow oh my fucking god i hate turk so much. He is such a waste to spend our cap space on. Did pritchard forget about batum, outlaw, and webster. And our future Claver?

LMFAO! Yeah, Claver is a reason to not sign Hedo. I hope you are joking. Webster is not proven to do anything, so who cares? Outlaw has shown his worth. Batum will still play.

LMAO @ the guy who brought up Claver as a reason to not sign Hedo. Horrible.

I know right?! Hilarious!

Agreed. A slow, slightly above average shooter who couldn't defend my grandmother. This will put a lot of pressure on our centers to defend both Hedo's man as well as theirs.

In the end, this will actually hurt the team.

What are you, Debbie Downer? Stop crying in every post you make.

I'm kinda with you there. I would rather go after Sessions with our cap space.

Sessions is NOT going anywhere. Get over that.

If we sign hedo, teams will score more on us- that's for sure.

Melancholy Molly? Chill out dude. Go hit the bong.

So, KP and Penn called Brandon and Aldridge - but no Oden - prior to contacting Hedo's agent?

No big, I guess. But, at least a bit interesting to me.....for whatever reason.

Odens extension will happen next year.

I'm still on the fence on this one. He's obviously an upgrade, but is he worth it? I just don't know.

If you remember back to the Rockets series McMillan went with Rudy at the 3(which I was hugely against) in game 6 because he thought the Blazers needed more scoring, and that's why the Blazers seem to be trying to acquire Hedo. I still think a PG is more important than a SF, but I'll just have to try and trust KP on this one.

Yup, he hasn't done us wrong yet.

----------

I think this is great news. I myself have been on the fence about Hedo, but all in all I would be very pleased to see him here.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan is flying to Orlando to have a Wednesday night dinner with the Blazers' top free-agent target, Hedo Turkoglu.

I think he really is are target. This isn't a smokescreen anymore.

Re: CBS Sports reporting Blazers after Turkoglu / Quick reports talks with Hedo's age

I don't understand why the dollars a big deal at this point.... who cares if we sign him for 5 years at $50 million? We will be so far over the cap once Roy, Aldridge, and Oden sign extensions, it really won't matter at that point. I'm all for signing Hedo.

VERY good point.

I didn't read the article, but he will also be in Portland tomorrow touring the city and facilities.

I wonder if he and Nate will be flying first class, or Blazer1 first class?

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

I don't think it matters much if teams score on Portland then they did last year as long as Portland increases their own scoring.

Which I think would happen with Hedo on the floor instead of Batum.

Re: Hedo Turkoglu Welcome Thread

The other thing I would point out is, who cares how old he is down the line if we win a ring. That is the goal is it not? Win it all. Not to have a younger team. Not to have a dynasty. Just to win it all at least once. Once you win it once, then you can start talking about other things. But don't get ahead of yourself.
That's a very good point. Championships are hard to come by, and getting just one is all we should care about. However, I guess I'm worried that Hedo might start going downhill right away, and thus not be able to help us get even that one championship. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid.

With his great wingspan and pullupability Nate will glide into Orlando like an eagle. Oh wait, this is free-agency, not the draft. Scratch that.

It's a tough one because there is no way you could find a Celtic fan that is upset they traded Jefferson for Garnett because they won. Had they not won though it would be an entirely different story.

Not the best comparison because we wouldn't be giving up anything close to Jefferson to acquire Hedo.....If anything at all

This part caught my eye . . .
Turkoglu is widely expected to land with the Blazers as the first marquee free-agent signing of Pritchard's reign.

Sounds like this is almost a done deal already, according to this writer.

This is definitely a possibility, but it is true for each and every player on the roster... Webster is just what? 22? And he might never be the same again...

Hedo is less than a year older than Blake. He is not past his sale-by date yet, it seems.

Yup, there's always factors you can't really determine. What if Roy suffers a season-ending injury?

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

Ric Bucher, via Twitter, said Western Conference teams are fearful the Blazers will land Hedo.

"Hedo is a playmaker. Outside Roy, they don't have a playmaker."

Then thank God we got a Turk who can take the load!

I think this is really important. All championship contenders last year (Except maybe Cleveland - But they had Lebron) had at least two playmakers.

Kobe/Odom

Rondo/Pierce

Billups/Melo

Parker/Manu (Injured, so they lost in the first round)

Nelson/Turkoglu - Now Nelson/VC

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

The amount of money we pay Turkoglu matters because rosters always change over time. Anyone who thinks the starting 5 we have this November will be the same starting 5 in four years hasn't been paying attention to history. At some point, we'll want to adjust our roster, and who do you think we'll most likely look to move? Roy? Aldridge? Oden? I don't think so.

Odds are that we move Turkoglu and/or whomever is our new PG down the line for younger pieces that fit the team's needs at that point.

Doesn't anybody remember Damon Stoudamire? If he'd been on the $3-5 mil/year contract he was worth during the first half of this decade, we would've shoved him out the door and been rid of him. Instead, he was making such ridiculous amounts of money that our GM once joked he couldn't trade him for a chair.

A five year contract approaching anything close to $10 mil/per sounds to me like a very difficult contract to move in a few years when (hopefully) Batum takes over the starting SF role.

I love how much flexibility our GM has right now. I realize a lot of that goes away when we sign the Roy, Aldridge and Oden deals. I'd just rather not see us lose even more of that flexibility by making a deal that will look overpriced in a few years. I'd feel differently if I thought Hedo was the missing piece in a championship team, but I just don't see him like that.

Yeah, in the words of the great draft guru Jay Bilas, "he's got great length"

Well said. I agree with this.

Lets not forget that even if we do give Turk a 5/$50 mil contract, we can front load it. If we offer him 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 mil per, we can flip flop it to start out at the high end and decrease to where he could be an $8 mil expiring in his last season, which is easier to trade. Teams in the past have liked having large expiring deals, but they are not as attractive anymore.

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

Personally, and I don't want to sound like a broken record, here is what I think:

-- I think that Hedo will make us better. He is a better player than Batum right now, and he will provide experience and depth to the team... in other words, Hedo is better than nothing
-- I think that Carter would have made us significantly better than Hedo will. Carter is an incredible offensive weapon and an overall better player
-- In the long run, I think taking on Carter's shorter contract would make more sense than signing Hedo to five years. I expect Batum to surpass Hedo in the next three years and he would have been able to step in for Vince if Portland declined to pick up Vince's third year.

I wish I were excited by the acquisition of Turkoglu. After looking at the stats and knowing how inconsistent he is, I just am not.

Ed O.
