Portland trading for Paul George would be exactly like the Lakers trading for Dwight Howard. Except for the facts that Portland is not LA and Dame is not Kobe.

Supposedly, Derozan was a lock to go to the Lakers this past summer, but as free agency approached, he became more and more interested in the biggest contract and sticking with a contender. If George could make us one as well, I think there'd be a strong chance of him staying

I'd be willing to take back one bad contract of an old player but not two especially if we are including Draft picks and you have no idea if PG will re-sign. Crabbe, Harkless and Aminu plus a pick gives them a SG, SF and SF/PF, all young, and all signed for a while. Indy has a similar problem as Portland......FA's aren't flocking to go there. Since PG is going to leave anyhow, that gives them a young core under control for a while. I'd include up to one pick but no more as Portland is going to need those picks to fill in their roster as on top of Crabbe, Aminu and Harkless leaving, Ezeli is also gone. That's 4 out with just two coming back. Cheap Draft picks will be needed.

Can you imagine the screens that a Nurkic/Jefferson frontcourt could set? That's nearly 600 lbs of PF/C.
 
The one thing I've learned after watching Larry Bird's moves up close for a few years-- he doesn't tank. This ownership doesn't want that. They also don't like being strong armed into moves.

I don't see how that works out either. In 2018/19, Dame will make almost $28,000,000. CJ will be near $26, 000,000 and Nurkic would be in the first year of a contract you would imagine would be around at least $20,000,000. Add what George would be in line for in that season and it's probably more than Dame at around $30,000,000.

That's $104,000,000 on 4 players. They would need almost the entire rest of the roster to be on Rookie scale or Veteran minimum contracts if that were the case. Now you might be able to finally get some of those veterans to come to Portland to play with that lineup with the idea of having a real shot to win.

Exactly. Dame/CJ/PG/Nurk is one of the best cores to build around. That team competes for WCF yearly if healthy and PA will have no issue going over luxury tax for that team.

Yeah I don't see how we're in a win-now node. 2-3 years from now, Dame will be 29, CJ 28, and Nurk 25. That's PRIME TIME right there. During the 1989-90 finals, Clyde and Jerome were days from being 28, and Terry was 27.

Yeh, Jefferson has a PER of 19. He could fill in until we developed a younger guy. Could those two play together on defense though? If TBpup thinks we shouldn't give so much draft picks, maybe give them the picks but keep Vonleh.

I would probably be okay with either of these moves. If Indy has any second round picks they could send over to us, we would probably need them.
 
See, that can be a good thing if Larry doesn't like to tank since we know KP likes to "bake cakes".

At the same time.....you have to wonder what the relationship between KP and Paul Allen is. If KP is still bitter about how he was let go, this might mean he'll spurn Paul Allen instead.

Hard to spurn the team with 3 first rounders if picks are what you are after.
 
Yeah....not sure I see KP doing a deal with Portland unless he thinks he is really Pritch-slapping Paul.

Really interesting dynamic now. Woj HATES KP, like irrational level of hatred. But he seemingly loves Neil and serves as his mouthpiece essentially. Any trade discussion between the two would get dragged into the mud by Woj for sure.

It's not Indy having leverage we need to worry about. It's competing with what other teams could offer.

Exactly. LeBron will not be the same player anymore, Curry, Thompson and Durant will all be above 30 and Spurs entire team bar Kawhi will be 60. That will be the perfect time to put ourselves in contention. By trading picks and stuff for a player like George we would be setting ourselves up for failure as he would inevitably leave after a year and we'd be left with three good players and zero prospects to get anything more.

Paul George is 26; if you think you can re-sign him , you do it. You can't count on these kind of players always being available. I don't like to worry about whether we are as good as such and such a team right now. The sooner our new big four start playing together, the better they will get. The Warriors could lose a big player to injury. Besides what would Lillard think about waiting for the warriors to get old; he wants to beat them now!

Oh yeah, if you have a chance now to get Paul George, you do it. But don't do it with the mindset that you need to win now. Do it so you have another major piece in Dame's age range locked in.

Even so, is Indy actually going to get BK's pick this summer with the fear of him walking next summer? Teams will lowball the shit out this
 
Dame/CJ/PG/Chief/Nurk

With that lineup Rock Paper Scissors determines who has the best S5 in the league between us and GSW.

4 All-Star caliber players. Could they make it work? I don't think dame or CJ would have problems deferring, which makes me say yes. The question would be if PG could make it work, I also say yes there.

Any PG, you can make those passes you did at the end of game 1, dame and CJ got your back! Or shoot it, we know you're a G!
