Merged: Who would you give up for Paul George?

How are those two things different?

Paul George has made 1st or 2nd team All Defense three times.

The last two season's he's shot .371 and .393 from 3-point range. And that's not a small sample size. He was 6th (210) and 12th (195) in the league in made 3-pointers those two seasons.

I think our collective frame of reference for a 3 and D guy is pre-injury Wes Matthews. Wes' last two seasons in POR, he made 201 and 173 3-pointers on .393 and .389 3FG%. So, in terms of 3-point shooting, Wes and PG13 are pretty comparable.

As much as we loved watching Wes shut down James Harden during that POR vs. HOU series, Wes has never made a single first or second All Defensive team, or received a single DPOY vote (George has been top 8 and DPOY voting twice).

And, of course, George does most other things better than Wes. He's a No. 1 option who can create his own shot and has averaged over 23 ppg the last two seasons. George is a much better rebounder, a much better passer and gets a lot more steals. He's just flat out a better all around player, which is no surprise. Wes, especially pre-injury, is the prototypical 3 and D player, but he's a role player, a damn good one, but still a role player. Paul George is a star.

Are you saying you'd rather add a role player than a star? Someone who doesn't demand the ball as much, who is a solid 3rd or 4th option, rather than a 1b option to Dame's 1a? If so, can you give examples of 3 and D guys you'd like us to target?

Are you worried about fit? There were similar concerns from a few people about how Durant would fit in with Curry, but that all sees, to have worked out nicely.

Worried about shots, not PG. He's great

Well it is a copycat league and regardless of who wins between the Warriors and the Cavs, you would think that PG (and any other star not playing for their first big pay day) will take notice of how many shooters each team has. Portland would only have 3, plus occasionally going into Nurk. That should not be a problem.

GSW manages to find enough shots for Durant, Curry, Thompson, Draymond and a cast of ring chasers.

A high scoring, fast paced offense helps everyone get their's and keeps them all happy.

Winning also helps.

To play devils advocate, neither Thompson nor Draymond need the ball in their hands the way McCollum does. The good news is McCollum strikes me as the type of guy that would sacrifice for the team and he's a lethal spot up shooter, so I don't see too much of a problem. But McCollum will have to sacrifice more than anyone.

C.J. averaged 23.0 PTS/G on 18.0 FGA/G. Klay averaged 22.3 PTS/G on 17.6 FGA/G. Very similar numbers. So, I don't think C.J. will have to sacrifice too much.

If anything, his efficiency should go up. He's a deadly catch and shoot 3-point shooter, and unlike the last two years, he'd always have at least one other elite scorer with him on the floor at all times. None of this C.J. and 4 bums stuff where defenses can just key in on stopping him. With Dame, PG13 and Nurk, C.J. would see a lot fewer double teams. He may not have the ball in his hands for as many seconds per possession, but he'd have to work a lot less for his shots.

Just curious if anyone here has been checking other team discussion forums to see what fantasy scenarios other fan bases are concocting in the Paul George Sweepstakes.

We seem to have a lot to offer both IND and PG13. We seem to have enough to give IND (lots of draft picks in a deep draft and youngish "talent") to land PG13 without gutting our team (important to keeping George, if we're fortunate enough to get him) But like most fans, we tend to overvalue our own assets.

I'm just curious about what other passionate fan bases think their chances are to beat us out and land PG13.

I'm creating something beautiful in Microsoft Paint right now. Stay tuned.

Agree. Just not sure everyone on the team does.

Dame definitely does and he's the leader. Dame and PG13 would clearly be 1a and 1b (or vise versa). Everyone else will fall in line, like Thompson did in GSW. After his experience in DEN, Nurk was just pleased as punch to get to actually play, and to play for a team that made the playoffs.

Honestly, I think these guys really want to win. It's not like they have to pad their stats to get a big contract. Other than Nurk, who will get paid when the time comes, everyone else has already gotten their big payday.

I suppose if there is a silver lining about last summer's spending spree, it's that nobody should be bitching about being underpaid. The only two guys who would even have a somewhat legitimate beef would be Davis and Aminu, and they are both expendable and easily tradable due to their pre-inflation, team friendly contracts.

Well it seems logical or fair that CJ is willing to adapt/adjust/sacrifice if PG came to Portland since he has publicly said we should go after him and I'm sure CJ is smart enough to know what that means

If we land PG, I want to try to sign Chris Bosh if he passes a physical and is cleared to play.

Why? Vonleh is perfect in that lineup. Just rebound and play defense. Bosh would cost more than the MLE anyway. George also plays very well as a small ball four. I'd be looking to sign a shooter, maybe a veteran from Europe. We will have to get creative.

I was wondering what the price of an allstar is who has just one year left on his contract. I think at the time Deron Williams was traded he was considered a very high level player, maybe up there with George? He had a year plus a couple months left on his contract when traded. Jazz got Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and two first round picks, one turned out to be #3 the same year and the other #21 two years later.
Were there others traded with about the same time left on their contracts?

I think Carmelo Anthony had over two years left on his contract when traded to the Knicks. "The Nuggets traded Melo to the New York Knicks tonight, a league source said. Denver gets Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors’ 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors’ 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash."

Carmelo had 1 year and change left and got probably the best haul ever for a star that was going to leave. Kosta Koufos Wilson Chandler, Danilo Galinari, Timofey Mozgov, 2012/14/16 1sts

Are you sure about the length of his contract? I show him being traded February 2011, and then later signing a contract with NY starting in the 2014-15 year. And it looks as if only one of the picks was first round.
