I don't know what people feel about this, but I guess I'd classify myself as a metrosexual. I'm obviously straight, and although I don't necessairily "spend a great amount of time and money on appearance", I will admit that I do care about the physical perception of myself by others (obviously this is directly for/because of girls). I believe in this kind of self-philosphy because it not only makes you more aware of your health habits and appearance, but it also ends up making you more confident when you take care of how you look, because like it or not, your whole life is judged by the way you look, no matter what books or people who try to make you feel good say.

At the end of the day, I'd rather be the nice lookin guy with his hair gelled and wearing clothes that are proper and smelling nice then the dude with the hair flappin everywhere with a hat and a beard. I realize I'm looking at things from an extremely "materialistic" point of view, but it doesn't have to do with that. Believe me, I know material things don't mean anything in the end, but maybe it's cause of age or perhaps just my desire to look good for the sake of boosting my confidence even more.

It's not necessarrily a femine thing to do IMO, I think ALOTTTTTT of the guys I know/see are metrosexual because some guys I know spend more time buyin gear for themselves then a lot of the girls I know, but it depends on your desire to make yourself look good I think...it's not necessarily anything to be ashamed of so I'm just bringing it out in the open. If you guys haven't heard of this term before or think I'm strange for admitting to this, then I guess you're just going to have to accept it for what it is. Just be mature about it...metrosexuality isn't connected with homosexuality at all if that's the first thing that popped into your head when reading that article.

However, I think it does become strange when some guys take it a step or two much further then they should...like when guys get thier eyebrows done at a eyebrow place for chicks and come out with pencil thin eyebrows...that's just messed up in my opinion. And believe me, coming from Toronto (well, Brampton but Toronto as well), I've seen plenty of guys like this.

Clothes and appearance mean nothing. My dad is fugly but his game is rock solid, he gets grils half his age who are fine as hell. So I grew up not caring about my look, my hair, my jewelry, my car, etc.

Though its always an upside to atleast be presentable.

I never really checked what the term meant, but I had a good idea. I would consider myself metrosexual, even though it seems kinda gay to me (though I know it's not). I'm too concerned with my looks for whatever reason. I'm not extreme about it, but I care about my looks an appearance alot. I goto the barber every 2-3 weeks to keep my hair and line up nice. I spend too much time infront of the mirror in the morning look at my facial hair and fixing it to my liking. Plus, I spend enough money on my gear and shoes and accessories. I'm semi-obsessed (can't think of another word) with my appearance and how I want to look...I don't really know why, but that's how I am. For the girls obviously but I like to look good for myself, if that makes sense.

I think 70% of the battle with girls is always going to be based on physical appearance...personality counts for somehting definetly but if I want to be picky about the kind of girl I want (which I am), I better be lookin good myself otherwise I won't have such a broad taste of women to choose from as I wish. Your game doesn't depend on your appearance, it depends more on your CONFIDENCE, and confidence for me comes out more when I feel I look proper.

My dad doesn't really care about his appearance all that much either, just combs his hair to make it look presentable. However, he has a great taste in clothes and I think I got the desire in wanting to pick clothes that are nice from him. I think for me personally, this is more of an age thing, but I know a lot of 20+ year old guys that're still doing their eyebrows and buying the most fashionable clothes.

Couldn't agree more. I like to look good for girls, but it is for myself as well...meaning that if I'm going to step out, I want to have a certain sense of aura and confidence about myself. I think it's a form of narcissism, but a lot of guys I know have it.

Try 20% of the battle. I've seen ugly guys get with fine ones just because they got game or a nice personality. If you got confidence, a great personality, and good game then there is nothing to worry about. You can buy clothes, you can't buy any of the things I listed.

I am a Metrosexual and I have been for years. It means that you are straight, but you enjoy doing feminine things and take good care of yourself. I love to dress pressed and keep excellent care of myself including having my nails cleaned up and looking good. There's nothing wrong with that, it doesn't mean that you're gay or anything. Not that being gay is bad I'm just making my point. In fact most women have more respect for you because of doing things like that. I don't get my eyebrows done and you're right that's scary as hell. To me, that’s just crossing the line as you're no longer caring for yourself more, you're just changing yourself.

Lol, that's the way everyone (at least all of my friends) look in my town, I call it the Silent Bob look because everyone looks like they're from Jersey. I'll soon look that way too since I'm growing my hair out

What is "acting gay" though?

It's not like I walk around like a stereotypical gay man with tight clothes and talk in a girly way; metrosexuals just pay more attention to thier appearance then other guys I guess. And personally, I don't believe that being gay is exactly a "trend"...and if it was a trend, I wouldn't follow it, it's not really my thing to follow a trend that consists of having an alternative lifestyle in sexual orientation.

Actually, I do agree with you. I've seen some pretty bland looking guys get the best looking girls in my school.

I'm not assuming you act like a little girly man prancing around (if I did I would've done it a lot sooner); I just said that the term "metrosexual" is one of those stupid words that people fling around like dog doo-doo to make people feel special.

Yes, being gay is a trend. Well, when I mean "gay" I don't mean boning another dude, but acting like someone you aren't and just acting queer. Gay people get a lot more attention, and people are attention whores nowadays. See Lance Bass as a reference.

hhmmm, I thought that ever since Ryan Seacrest appeared on tv, everyone would be familiar with the term metrosexual.

Personally, I think it all depends on how much of a metrosexual you are. It's always good to take care of yourself and make sure you don't come across as a slob. However, taking it too far like using several different kinds of moisterizers or plucking your eyebrows when you don't need to, is a turn off to most women.

The wikipedia definition to me seems retarded. I make sure I'm staying clean etc. If you were concerned about breaking a nail or something, than maybe you might fit the definition. But it's really not a bad thing to be concious of your appearance. According to that definition, the non-metrosexuals would be dirty dudes.

I agree with MrJ. Just because you clean yourself and care about how you look doesn't mean you are metrosexual. All guys want to look great in front of hot girls and your supposed to clean yourself everyday.

I've met someone who was metrosexual and he would get his nails and eyebrows done and was the kind of guy who you could never picture playing any sports. He wasn't gay but he was as close as you can get without actually being with another man.

I fix my hair and want to look good. I buy clothes from American Eagle and Hollister but I'm not a metrosexual. I like to look good when I'm going out but I wouldn't call me a metrosexual.

Guys like Brad Pitt, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo are described as metrosexual so I'm not sure what exactly a "true" metrosexual is. I'm actually really into sports, I love ball and I love playing soccer; I love training and I love working out...I don't get my nails done (I do cut them with a nail clipper tho

), and I don't get my eyebrows done. However, I do take care of my skin more carefully, and I often have to moisturize my skin (that habit stemmed from the fact that I often have dry skin, especially in the Canadian winter months)..I also love buyin new gear every couple of months cause I like looking nice.

I wouldn't classify myself as a "true" metrosexual, whatever that is, but I see myself as being somewhat narrcissistic and semi-obsessed with looking good.

Also, is doing somehting like waxing your legs, or trimming/taking off body hair considered to be a metrosexual thing to do? Some athletes on teams in my school seem to be doing this (well, mostly on the legs), and it seems a lot of professional athletes do this as well (apperently soccer ones more so).
Would this be considered a "metrosexual" move because a guy cares about how others perceive his hair (smooth looking rather then looking like a jungle)? Or is it somehting you would all do if you were in the position of being an athelete?

When I met the metrosexual guy for the first time, I honestly thought he was gay. It was that bad. If you just make sure your skin is clear and buy new gear I don't think that classifys you as a metrosexual.

Yeah that's what I responded to in my first post is that getting your eyebrows done is no longer Metrosexual. You're just looking for attention or you just want to be gay. Metrosexual is about improving yourself in appearance and health, not altering it or in that case messing it the **** up. Eek!!

I do that now and before the term was ever used, and I'd kick my own ass if I was ever called a meterosexual.
I take pride in how I look because I am not a slob, not because I want to be part of the new 'fad'.

A lot of the 'harder' guys in my school rock pink...I wouldn't consider them gay, but it just means they want more attention drawn towards themselves.

I think it's just flat out strange to wear a bright pink long tee in an attempt to stand out. The only way I'd wear pink was if it was on a black golf shirt with pink and black stripes. I've seen that and it's actually a pretty hot combo...but again, black is the primary color, not the pink. Large pink tees are just to get attention in my opinion.

I think the labelling starts when straight men become obsessed with thier appearance to the point that they regularly pluck, fix, and thread thier eyebrows, make sure they have less hair then even some women do on thier face, and basically do more feminine activities towards thier appearance then the next average man.

I wouldn't call it homosexual or even borderline homosexual if STRAIGHT men are doing it to improve thier appearance. As long as they are sexually attracted towards females, they are not homosexuals, they're just self-obsessed to an extreme point. I think it's wrong for guys to go that far, but it's not necessarily a 'homosexual' thing to do.

I don't really believe in labels as someone else said before me. I like to look presentable, but for my own gain. I have more confidence in my self and feel more comfortable if I'm well groomed and clothed. Sure, it goes on to say that when you're in a club or in any kind of social gathering you're bound to get more attention if you keep your body healthy, well groomed, and wear nice threads that present your features more vividly. It's not something to be ashamed of, and you're just as much a man as the lumberjack next door. You're that much of a man because you have different understanding of yourself and you choose to exemplify it the best you can. I guess you could classify me the GQ guy, but with much less interest in designer clothes. There are things that every guy should better himself through and appearance is one. However, you shouldn't let it overcome you and let it change you into someone that you were not before because it might be the recent "fad" or because you want to boost your ego, as that is the most dangerous thing.
