Great thread. Not surprised at all to see the responses that I saw, but most of them don't even live in Oregon.

support america!
screw that man, if america can provide the best service for the best price, then they can compete on the global markets. the truth is that they are losing that war, which is why outsourcing is so prominent nowadays.
If only we could institute child labor or abolish minimum wage . . .
Its not all about that. I am a reseller of offshored services. Not all offshorers are unskilled labor jobs such as picking berries or sewing shoes...and that is not what many are aiming at, they are aiming at offshored technology to India, Central America and Asia. Programming, call centers, accounting and healthcare.
The problem is there is a brain drain in America, they are producing an uneducated workforce yet want to stay up to speed with the rest of the world.
The thing the US does have is the entreprenurial spirit and the desire to succeed and get ahead. I've been to several countries for prospecting and the thing about the work force there is that they are content to be average..to not get ahead. America needs to get all about the money and success...however with a redistribution of wealth, its getting less attractive to do that and workers will be more content to "merely survive".
This is why I am concerned about the move towards a more socialist government and penalizing small business owners. it takes the motivation to succeed and leadership factors away, the areas that America DOES have left and what separates it from the rest of the world.
Well, my instinct was always to say the USA could dictate the terms of any trade agreement, and have it be for the purpose of freedom.
I now know I was wrong to think this. I'm now counting down the days until we can't post freely on a message board about these things. Next up is the internet and your IP addy.

Been to India? Would you want to live there? There is sure as hell no redistribution of wealth there. A fascinating country, but the difference between the haves and the have-nots is really extreme.

Nope, not been but I've worked on a project with some people there for a few months. Very difficult to get things done. The thing about India and other countries is that it is very hard to get them to do things how you want them to get done, which is why outsourcing will never been an absolute. For very mechanical and analytical jobs, its fine, but if you need them to think outside the box, forget it.
The amount of handholding is fucking ridiculous. They're so afraid of screwing things up, they purposefully slow progress down.
If you want it to work better, go over there, spend some time with them, get to know them and let them get to know you.

You're the PRODUCER. Will you foot the bill?
"Producers" now are able to edit their quotes of the regular folk?
Anyone can. It's the magic of the Internet.
Really? Quoting someone incorrectly and then commeting on the change is within the TOS here?
Just wondering...
dude, it happens on every board I've been on, mostly out of fun.
Indeed. It's a pretty common thing on discussion forums.
I only ask because a mod here threatened to ban me for changing and commenting on their post out of fun.
You won't be banned for that, nor edited. So long as the changes are rules-abiding (no changing them into personal attacks and such).
OK.
I'll just assume that now-Producer was full of crap then.
