PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS ROOKIE CENTER MEYERS LEONARD WILL DISCUSS THE VIRAL VIDEO THAT CAPTURED A SURPRISE REUNION WITH HIS BROTHER, A MARINE WHO RETURNED HOME FROM AFGHANISTAN -- LIVE, TOMORROW ON "CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY"

LEONARD'S BROTHER, CPL. BAILEY LEONARD, WILL ALSO APPEAR LIVE TO DISCUSS THEIR EMOTIONAL REUNION

Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Meyers Leonard will discuss the viral video that captured a surprise reunion with his brother, a marine who returned home from Afghanistan, in a live interview tomorrow, Oct. 6 on CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY (check local listings) on the CBS Television Network.

Leonard's brother, Marine Cpl. Bailey Leonard, will also appear live to discuss their emotional reunion.

Meyers Leonard, 20, was the 11th pick of this year's NBA draft. He was practicing at the University of Illinois in March when his older brother, Corporal Bailey Leonard, made a surprise visit that brought him to tears. The emotional meeting caught on camera went largely unnoticed until last week when Meyers tweeted a link to the video. It has since gone viral, with more than 500,000 views on YouTube.

Anthony Mason and Rebecca Jarvis are the co-hosts of CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY. Michael Rosen is the Executive Producer of CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY.

HCP - do you have a link to this viral video?

Would love to see it.

HuffPo video never opened. I googled and found about 10 articles, no vid. Not on espn, not on blazers site, not on nba.com.

However I was offered a view of a Kim Kardashian video. I declined.

I remember seeing this the day after the draft. Pretty cool stuff.

I also think it's cool that Meyers and his brother both have reversible names:

Meyers Leonard --> Leonard Meyers
Bailey Leonard --> Leonard Bailey

BNM

Thanks!

Very nice. Curious how Meyers played against Michigan after his brother came to that game?

Yeah, I posted it the day after the draft. Great video, and makes me think that Big Bro is going to make sure his brother keeps his focus in the NBA.

Leonard came from very little money, which makes the "white American stiff" bullshit I read on this board over the summer 100% racist in nature. Meyers may not make it as an NBA center, but it won't be because he's a "white stiff". His athleticism is off the charts, regardless of his color.

I ain't gonna lie. This vid is a tear jerker for me. I can't watch it. I have a cousin in Afghanistan now.

care to explain that gem?

Did "American White Stiff" become code for "comes from money"?

No, it came from people posting that not watching video of him, and also from you not reading the rest of my post.

Meyers may not make it as an NBA center, but it won't be because he's a "white stiff". His athleticism is off the charts, regardless of his color.

But, mentioning his race at all makes it racist, by definition. Now go ahead and not read all of this post.

Not sure what "white stiff" has to do with anything, other than those saying that being utterly clueless in assessing a player outside of their race. Leonard has more in common with the majority of NBA players than he has with the "white stiffs" that he was compared to before and after the draft.

Congrats on joining that club, though.

he is poor so that means he can run around cones really fast, poor people have to run from the police and bill collectors so their athletic ability increases exponentially depending on how many food stamps their unwed mother can scam off of the government

This video convinced me to get a Leonard T-shirt from the fan shop. You know, so I can wear it when I'm lecturing on Quantum Mechanics at Harvard. :ghoti:

You're the one who mentioned the qualifier that since he didn't come from money, all the American white stiff player stuff was racist.

And your response doesn't exactly address that.
But, mentioning his race at all makes it racist, by definition. Now go ahead and not read all of this post.

I did read the post. But you used a qualifier. "Which". That means you're saying something WHICH IS DELENDANT ON WHAT YOU SAY NEXT.

ex:

All lakers are scum. Kobe Bryant is a Laker, WHICH means he's scum.

Your original statement seems to not say that. You weren't clear on it at all (bringing up his families wealth has nothing to do with anything).

Btw, not sure how I joined this mythical club you're forming. I neither called hima white stiff, said that the fact he was poor growing up means he has less in common with the "white stiffs" out there, nor did I say that being poor makes him closer to the average non "white stiff" player in the NBA.

Finally, we get some intelligent commentary!
