Meyers Leonard Stat - WS as a Rookie C

hell, he ranked 16th last year among centers, rookie or not

I don't have an irrationally negative view about any of the Blazer players....I just don't have an irrationally positive view of them (ie..Making the finals)...

I like LaMarcus Aldridge...

Curious to see how McCollum, Crabbe, Wright & Robinson perform....

Last year we really needed ML to hold down the backup C spot.
Last year he was not able to hold down the backup C spot.

Next year we really need ML to down down the backup C spot.
I really think he'll be able to do that next year....
but I'm a homer.

To be fair, not a single player on the bench "held down" their back-up spot last year. Every back-up was an immediate downgrade, and it was a historically bad bench. Olshey did say today during the presser that he knew how bad it was, and how it was on purpose.

Leonard did have the highest PER, most WS, and most WS/48 of anybody on the bench, though.

lol, that's why Neil basically fired everyone on the bench!

1st round picks Luke Babbitt and Nolan Smith were kept around for 3 years

I'm starting to think this board needs to form two lines... one for posters who are drinking the Kool Aid and the other for the posters who are only drinking Kool Aid to wash the cyanide pill down.

What about those who are excited to watch a young team compete for a play-off spot and not really caring what happens in two years? I kind of like to just enjoy the present. I'm not sure how accepting the moves this summer and thinking they improved the team means I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, Spud.

Nice rebuttal. Is there a player on the roster that you actually don't have an irrationally negative view of?

Perhaps you missed how much he wanted us to draft Lillard and how ecstatic he was when we did so? Clearly he knows talent.

its not always either rainbows or shit sandwiches, but it sure seems like it sometimes

I'll drink me down a cool glass of Leonardaid.

This is going to go back and forth the entire offseason, and most likely most of next season. You can be in either camp, the one that is gloomy, and smells like dead turtles, or you be in the camp with rainbows and puppies and smells like a private island. It's a better life to live with more positives and things to look forward to.

I know, everyone on both sides thinks they are being realistic, not pessimistic or optimistic and it's the other side with their heads up their collective arses. We live in a world where perception is king, so why not choose the more promising perspective. Especially when it comes to sports, where we have absolutely zero ability to affect the outcome.

I can't wait to see Meyers beast it up this year.

What's wrong with Kool-Aid anyway? I mean, sure, it's overly sugary, has no nutritive value and tastes awful, but it's part of Americana. Next you'll be telling me we need to eradicate the faces on Mt. Rushmore.

Sounds like you and I can make a killing selling Kool Aid.

Oh I wasn't directing that at you or anyone else. It's just that this board seems to be so extremely emotional lately.

P.S. I'm totally drinking the Kool Aid

Even if Leonard averages say 10pts per game next year

He's the kind of guy that will give up 12pts or more. He's that bad on defense. Last year per 48 he averaged 15pts while his opponent averaged 20pts.

He's that bad.

I don't think there's a ton of argument that Leonard was a net negative on the court last year, but it's a new year and new opportunity not to suck. We'll see what happens I guess.

I'm thinking Fireball would bring both sides closer... it just makes you feel all warm and happy inside. Who's in? :roseglasses:

I just think too many people write it off as him being young and a rookie and he'll automatically become a good defender/rebounder with time

No, it doesn't happen like that. There's not some guaranteed linear progression with young players. Some players just suck in certain areas and that's just what they are. The major knocks on Leonard coming into the NBA were very apparent last year, and guys don't automatically shed those weaknesses. JaVale McGee is still stupid. Bosh and Aldridge were both labeled soft coming into the NBA and still get put in that discussion. Andre Miller never learned to shoot 3's.

Major weaknesses don't just magically go away

Funny you mention that... I will be vising Mt. Rushmore next week and I have no plans to eradicate per se, I was just thinking about spray painting a handlebar mustache on Lincoln and a Lillard jersey on Washington.

hes 20 years old...

i guess the question should be, what do you want? the blazers to just waive him?

Actually I think the cyanide will do the killing but we can make a ton of cash selling Kool Aid... unfortunately that will limit repeat business... maybe we need to rethink the business model

You do realize he was a 20-21 year old rookie and his average opponent was older and more experienced, right? Because, if you do, you would not find that stat in the least bit surprising or disconcerting.

Andre Drummond who was picked ahead of Leonard, came in 4th in ROY voting and who EVERYONE seems to thinks is an absolute beast, scored 18.4 points per 48 minutes and gave up 20.9 - and difference of -2.5 points per 48.

So, I'm glad you are so optimistic about Meyer's future, because if he scores 10 points and gives up 12, as you predict, he's a better center prospect than Andre Drummond. I find that very encouraging. Thanks for pointing this out and sharing your optimism with the board. You really are a ray of sunshine.
