Does Oden have to take the qualifying offer if it is given?

Because if I were him I would leave Portland tomorrow and never return.

Nothing but bad memories and demolished dreams for him here.

Plus, I read an interview where he said people would come up to him on the street and ask him to not get injured.
Like he wanted to be crippled and should change his mind.


I hope he has a decent career.
I just know that isn't going to happen in a Blazer uniform.

I don't understand why you keep referencing your own injuries. You aren't being paid millions of dollars to be an elite and "once-in-a-generation" athlete. If Oden was a great accountant or attorney, I wouldn't care at all about any injuries that he had suffered, and how they happened. Since Oden is a professional athlete, his injuries tend to matter more, at least in my mind.

one thing is I believe you don't or can't "clip" an articular injury easily like you do a meniscus one. most articular injuries require microfracture
 
Were fucked, pure and simple. I don't see many impact players in the upcoming drafts either that will turn that around. We will be picking borderline lotto for the next few years, stuck in mediocrity.

As long as we offer it, we have the option to match any other offer. He can decline the offer, but couldn't play in the NBA or in Europe.

I assume he would sign the QO. He would be crazy not to after missing the entire season.

Rage? What is that even supposed to mean? You keep talking about your numerous injuries, as if the fact that you are injury-prone somehow relates to Greg Oden's injury history. I don't get it. What is your point, other than to tell us about your many injuries?

As for why I post what I do, sometimes you're not meant to understand and I don't feel like explaining it to you. We disagree on Oden and that's not going to change; it's also okay.

c) willing to warp reality to fit their hopes for Oden

e) living in bizzarro world where Greg Oden has just suffered a series of ankle sprains and not three season-ending injuries for seemingly no reason.

I don't understand how me wondering about how your personal injury history relates at all to Oden means that I am angry. It seems like a red herring argument that has nothing to do with Oden, but rather yourself.

This doesn't make much sense.

What is the force causing Oden's injuries? Gravity is established and nearly universally applicable.

I'm wondering what similar force is acting on Oden, and why it's not applicable to every NBA player.

I think the force of wishful thinking is acting on you, right now, for thinking Greg Oden has the body of an NBA player.

I just want the Blazers to start doing something. Anything. To do nothing could possibly damage our franchise more than Oden being out.

Your kidding right? So im retarded to think Greg can return from a simple microfracture surgery? You do know he already recovered from the same exact surgery and showed us at the beginning of last season how dominant he could be after the microfracture.. Is 2+2 hard for you? If he recovered and was dominant after the microfracture before, then he can do it again. Got it?? Its already been done and as Jay Jensen said his right knee is stronger currently then it was previous to the microfracture.. What does that tell you? It says theres a very good probability he will play again. Why is this hard to understand??

Have to be honest, it tells me there are many more bones in his body to break and tears he can still have! I think we all know this guy could bleed out cutting hit toe nails.......

I have no doubt he'll recover... sort of. I'm just saying he will keep getting injured, i.e. his body is not meant to hold up to the rigors of the NBA.

so far his body unfortunately can't even hold up to rehab, to articular tears for virtually no reason, that ain't a good sign
 
I will say that there were a whole lot of people who said last year that Joel would never play again.

Of course, that still might turn out to be true, but right now it's looking like he will.

For now, retaining Oden is just a question of short-term cash that can't be spent on anything else. Therefore continuing to wait and see, as angry as the idea makes some people, really has no adverse effect on the franchise.

It has an adverse effect on Paul Allen's pocket book, though, so if he decides he's done spending money to wait and see, I can understand that. However, if he's willing to spend the money, I think the franchise is best off extending Oden the qualifying offer. They cannot use that money for someone else, being over the cap.

As far as I'm concerned, you hold off on final decisions like these, like jettisoning a talented player forever, until the cost of holding off hurts your future prospects. If Allen is okay with paying the qualifying offer, then there's currently no cost to the franchise for holding off.

Except to those who believe in a psychic cost to the minds of the players and front office. I don't believe in such a thing.
