This is something I haven't heard before, the Blazers were only one of 4 NBA teams that had a 2 man radio team. All the rest had only 1 radio broadcaster.

I had heard most were a 1-man show but I didn't know it was all but 4 teams....wow. Maybe Wheels doesn't get a new sidekick going forward at all.

I would say that we as fans need a 2nd person. It makes for a better, more informational and entertaining broadcast. If the switch from the Mikes to Calabro is being sold as it's better for the fans then the Blazers need to add a 2nd person to the radio broadcasts.

Calabro is better at radio, personally, but we will see

I really hope they don't combine broadcasts. Having a PBP guy describe plays to me on tv like he would on the radio would be clown town

I've wondered that here as well. I think he is very good on TV but brilliant on the radio. Maybe this is just part of the transition and when the new deal actually kicks in next year (even though it should be completed this summer) they will want their own TV personalities and Calabro slides into the radio slot.

I agree, in this case. Wheels swings wildly from one extreme to the other. When we are winning, it sound like he's so amped up he's about to have a heart attack. When we are losing, he sounds like he's broadcasting the end of life on earth. There's very little middle ground with him. Which is why we, as fans, need someone to bridge the gap between his extreme highs and lows.

Tone was a mellow dude, but it ALWAYS took him 3x as many words as needed to try to make a point. You always knew what he was trying to say before he got halfway through saying it. Which ofttimes led to him talking over live action, which is a big no no in radio broadcasting when you rely on the call 100% to know what's happening on the court. You can get away with that once in a while on TV, where the fans can see the action with their own two eyes, but not on radio.

Wheels can call the games just fine by himself, in terms of describing the action, but his extreme mood swings will make most game feel like a manic roller coaster ride. Give him someone calm, cool and professional to provide some facts, stats and insight to help smooth out his peaks and valleys.

That's literally how I watched Blazer games for more than a decade: Schonz on the radio, TV on mute. It's much better than it sounds on paper.

Rice said he had info on the draft, trades and who the Blazers will sign, but no place to share it. I'd love to have him share it here. Why is that a problem?

Because he is full of snark also. Takes a little shot at the Blazers by getting the fans riled up a bit because they all want to hear the rumors, but he's not part of the team. I love it

Why does he have to be part of the team to share what he knows? Is Kerry Eggers part of the team? Is Joe Feeman? Is Canzano? Is Jaynes? If he has something worthwhile to share, get him on the radio, or online to share what he knows. If he does, indeed, have anything of value, it would be a great audition for his next job.

I completely agree about wanting to hear from Rice. I reached out to Mike and to HCP to see if we can get him to post here.

No need to delete your posts, you guys didn't do or say anything wrong. I just want to keep the thread focused and positive in case the Mikes and Tone read it.
 
To the Mike's and Tone...best of luck and I'd still like to see all of you involved with the Blazers in the future...maybe a regular podcast? I appreciate the loyalty all of you have shown the organization. I'll look for Tone's radio interview.

Why would I merge those two threads? I want to keep the Appreciation thread positive and complimentary. This thread has some posts and opinions that are not the most complimentary. Nothing wrong with that but I thought it would be nice to have one thread where people who are fans of the Mikes and Tone could post.

Was thinking of making a custom bobblehead, but that may take a while.

Kinda hard to mail Liquor I believe. Have to ship it ground.
 
Get them a pair of those re2turn practice jerseys that the team wore after Wes ruptured his Achilles...to me Rice and Barrett gone is similar to Wes being gone..great guys
