Yes, the Mike's were "imbedded" with the team, and so not "impartial". That's a good thing, for the fans. Despite their partiality, they showed far less actual "bias" than most broadcast teams I've seen. They were actually willing to laugh and admit when the replay showed they were wrong. And I like that.

I will miss them.

Yup. Despite all the crap they get for being homers, they constantly would change their tune if a replay showed that their initial reaction was wrong.

Why would Calabro come here? Would he give up his NBA/ESPN radio job for Portland? I'm not sure that's a realistic option.

Maybe they're going to Root Sports and they want to bring a guy back from the Sonic Fox Sports days to get that Seattle crowd? Plus a wheelbarrow full of money?

Sad to see Mike Rice leave. He was a nice bridge back to Schonz. MB and Tone, I think they can probably find better.
Yeah; he's a fixture of my childhood. I figured next year would be his last though, not this year. If I'd known I would have torrented more games!!

It feels like being "blindsided" because no one saw it coming. No one saw it coming, because there was no apparent reason to make the change.

Except for Harvey. He held that position 10 years too long.

Yup. They were fired. It's not like they decided not the extend their contracts.

If somehow they were let go because of a negotiation that allows the Blazers to be seen on almost ANYTHING but Comcast, that will be worth the change.
Yeah, if losing the Mike's is the cost of NOT having Comcast control the distribution of their product, then it is sadly worth it.

If so, way to take one for the fans, guys!

It's been awhile since I posted but feel compelled to post in regard to this in light of the news and responses I have read in here. I was intrigued in knowing how you all felt.

I think we need to give Chris McGowan (who I am a big fan of) a chance to hire the new broadcasting team or see where they are going with broadcasting. I agree with most of you on Tone. I never cared for him. In Rice's case, it might have been time for him as well. There were moments last year when listening to him in the playoffs for example that it felt like the end of the round couldn't come fast enough for him. As it was time to dust off the golf shoes and start the off season. I just felt in some ways he was burned out and he wore it well on tv. Barrett, up in the air on that one. I thought he did a pretty decent job but felt he was a lil too homerish and found him to be a bit condescending at times over the years.

Other than that. I think we need to give Chris an opportunity to show what thr answer is. I disagree with many of you. I think he has done a great job. The organization is going to turn a profit for the first time in a long time and I like a lot of his ideas. I just think this is an
Organization that has the pulse of the town finally and they will get it right. Give him time and an opportunity.

We will never get the real story. But they very well coupd have wanted to bring mb back. Perhaps he said if you fire rice im out too.

But ive also heard behind the scenes that rice and barrett dont like each other much.

So who knows.

Id really like to know where you heard that from because I dont get that vibe at all. They even talk about being out at dinners and stuff sometimes.

I would, but 1080 The FAN is garbage, so they probably love the whole change.

Hopefully ripcity radio will replay it on my drive home at four.

I stand correct.ed I have another hour before I leave and we are at page 12 already but I've only read up to page 8. I got some reading to do tonight. Probably 20 pages by 5pm.

This sucks.

Anyway, who might be the replacements? I hope the color commentators are former Blazers. Are there any former blazers providing color commentary anywhere right now?
$amon and Sheed. Bonzi on the radio.

"...as (the fans) are watching our games"???!!!! "...as (the fans) are watching our games"???!!!

That presupposes that "the fans" can actually watch the fucking games!!!!

FUCK COMCAST WITH CHRIS MCGOWAN!!!!

He doesn't have the pulse of the town. Mcgowan doesn't care about this town. He's made that abudently clear. That "local" selection of food at games is to appease and pull wool over the eyes. He's a fucking joke.

Oh shut the fuck up, you're probably employed by the team.

Sorry. Cant implicate the individuals because youd know who they are :P

And no, they dont post on this forum.

Nice post mother McGowan

So first McGowan spearheads renaming the Rose Garden, and now this....

Sorry folks, but if anyone would be the driving force behind the team leaving Portland, it would be this guy.

"But he's so connected to the city."

Bullshit, hated the hire from day 1. Never liked his attitude, how he presented himself. He's about money, and only money. He doesn't care about the city or it's fans. Fuck him.

Barrett - certainly a homer but kind of the foundation part of the TV broadcast like Wheels was on the radio. Easy going, professional and certainly a 'Blazer' at heart. I did get a bit frustrated with his anticipation of calls in the Blazers favor over and over again when in just watching the refs hand signals, you knew he wasn't reporting the game correctly and soon there would be a correction followed by 'they say'. Still a big surprise.

Rice - the crazy Uncle that made almost entertaining or frustrating depending on your vent. He couldn't pronounce player's names but yet would make some of the most hilarious comments that caused you to wonder what was in his water cup. Probably was nearing the end anyhow just due to longevity.

Harvey - most fans seem to think this was the least objectionable and I've yet to see anyone come to a staunch defense of 'Tone'. Probably not too many losing sleep here.

Double Rep This

In his defense, that is just the business of the NBA today. Almost every arena has a sponsor and with the Blazers being smaller market, they need to make money any way they can. I still call it the Rose Garden anyhow.

Nah, he's just boosting the resume to move on to the NFL. He'll be gone soon.

Maybe we are the ones who are out of touch... Maybe the larger percentage of the fan base is tired of the old ways that we love.
