Before reading I just have to say it doesn't surprise me Larry Miller would turn to Mike Barrett to get his side out there.

After reading the first couple questions I just skimmed the rest. Pointless.

I agree. The entire thing can be boiled down to: "Nothing has been decided, there's no timeline on where there will be any decisions and here's a bunch of standard PR that happens to also be true."

Here is the summary of the interview-

MB: What's the biggest message you want to get across to fans right now?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: MB: So, what's happening now, even though it's being played out so publicly, is pretty much business as usual?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: So, the people who say there's been a decision made are wrong?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: This story has taken on a life of its own, as you know. There are so many different opinions on what's going on, and there a lot of people being quoted as "unnamed league sources."

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Some have talked of a "power struggle" or that you have designs on being general manager.

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Is this impacting the preparation for the draft?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: So, inside these walls your eyes are on the ball?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Fans always ask me when things will be resolved.

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Anything else?

Miller: Calm waters.

Mike Barrett is a very nice guy but he works for the Blazers and will NEVER say anything critical of them or ask a tough question. If he did he would follow KP out of town and we could have another person on Blazer TV network. I can't even watch the Courtside show due to their inability to say opinions or call out Blazer management when they are wrong. I know many people don't like Quick or Canzano, but having yes men conducting interviews his aweful.

Come on Mike, can you not ask the big question (or is it there no question it is true at this point):

Is it true Blazers have hired a scouting firm to seek out potential GMs?

Here is the summary of the interview- Fixed

MB: What do you want to say about the situation

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: What else do you want to say about the situation?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Anything else you want to say?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Do you have anything else to add to this story?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Anything else you want to say about the situation

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Do you want to add anything to that?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Feel free to keep on speaking about what you want to

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Anything else to say to the fans?

Miller: Calm waters.

MB: Anything else?

This is how I heard the interview

Meanwhile, KP the other Blazer employee is the straight shooter?

with history as my witness, the most telling quote of the interview was on the speculations this time of year

Believe me, the majority of this stuff is just absolutely unfounded and untrue. -Larry Miller

we shall see if Vescey and Co are right and KP is fired right after the draft and this "no decision has been made/this is how our business is always done" stuff was just a smokescreen.

from Quick

A Yahoo! Sports report said Allen has hired a headhunting firm to find a replacement for Pritchard, who is under contract through the 2010-2011 season, but has apparently fallen out of favor with the billionaire owner. The Yahoo! report said Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti could be a candidate, and on Tuesday, the New York Post reported that the Blazers interviewed Presti in New York.

Miller would not respond to either report.

"The thing I can say is that Paul is committed to bring a championship to Portland,'' Miller said. "I think he has shown that by putting his resources forward to improve the organization.''

Didn't exactly deny it, did he.

We've talked about this before. This is a man interviewing his BOSS! I wonder how brave some on here would be when it comes to asking touchy ?'s of their own boss.

I get that point, but Barrett tries to sell this as if Miller's answers to his questions cleared a lot of things up that's been said in the media. In reality, it's just more of the same that cleared up absolutely nothing.

The situation, as it relates to Kevin Pritchard's status as general manager, has grabbed the attention of local and national writers, and has resulted in wild speculation, conspiracy theories, and a number of conclusions (even if it's meant jumping the gun). It's not a comfortable situation, so I'm not going to try and sell it as if you should be ignoring absolutely everything you read. But, don't let anyone tell you they've got this all figured out, because they don't. I'm more certain of that now than ever before.

If you take them at their word that they always review management this time of year (which seems reasonable to me), how could they clear things up when (as the norm) nothing has been decided on? I'm reminded of the frantic threads last year when Roy and Aldridge weren't already signed and how they were gonzo. I know that I don't know whats what but my best guess is the Blazers are just going about their business while the speculators are going about theirs. Grab some popcorn and watch things unfold
:bwpopcorn:
looking into the availability of another top GM may well have happened, but for all we know thats normal for them as well as they assess the lay of the land within their business/cover their bases. Does anyone know when is Presti's contract up?

The way I read it is that MB is simply saying the media has not reported the true story. He is certain of that. Because they either do not know or they are not saying. Is KP gone? yes. The reason he will be gone....has not yet been told.

Which is all the reason for not conducting the "interview".

When you pretend to be "interviewed" by a supposed member of the media, this is a form of a lie. Not a big lie, but a white lie.

It's bullshit.

Rather than shovel bullshit, Larry Miller never should have asked Mike Barrett to conduct a fake interview in the first place.

Larry Miller is a salesman - and it shows.

So if the majority is false, that means part is true. I believe most of what we hear is false, but most likely KP's job being in jeopardy is true. Just the why is the question.

Man, my 7 year old son could jack those softballs over the fence all day long. It's a little embarrassing for Mike.

he's saying a majority of all the off season speculations around the league are false and only some are true... which is why he doesn't even read them. Certainly that seems to be true in my years of following offseason gossip. The way I'm reading his addressing this particular speculated on situation is that Kevin's regular evaluation isn't done yet and never is prior to the draft. So while it's true that his job may be in jeopardy, thats always true about this time of year.

Nobody (interested in keeping their job) would. That said, it's sort of a fruitless endeavor to read the interview because you already know it's roughly the equivalent to state media interviewing the "glorious leader." I don't fault Barrett at all for the questions he's asking, I fault the organization for trotting him out there to conduct the interview in the first place.

Did anybody ever consider the fact that maybe with the way the organization is structured, that maybe Larry Miller really doesn't know much? If Vulcan is pulling the strings, it is coming from up above him.
