Mike Barrett is a very nice guy but he works for the Blazers and will NEVER say anything critical of them or ask a tough question. If he did he would follow KP out of town and we could have another person on Blazer TV network. I can't even watch the Courtside show due to their inability to say opinions or call out Blazer management when they are wrong. I know many people don't like Quick or Canzano, but having yes men conducting interviews his aweful.
Come on Mike, can you not ask the big question (or is it there no question it is true at this point):
Is it true Blazers have hired a scouting firm to seek out potential GMs?
A Yahoo! Sports report said Allen has hired a headhunting firm to find a replacement for Pritchard, who is under contract through the 2010-2011 season, but has apparently fallen out of favor with the billionaire owner. The Yahoo! report said Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti could be a candidate, and on Tuesday, the New York Post reported that the Blazers interviewed Presti in New York.
Miller would not respond to either report.
"The thing I can say is that Paul is committed to bring a championship to Portland,'' Miller said. "I think he has shown that by putting his resources forward to improve the organization.''
This is how I heard the interview
We've talked about this before. This is a man interviewing his BOSS! I wonder how brave some on here would be when it comes to asking touchy ?'s of their own boss.
The situation, as it relates to Kevin Pritchard's status as general manager, has grabbed the attention of local and national writers, and has resulted in wild speculation, conspiracy theories, and a number of conclusions (even if it's meant jumping the gun). It's not a comfortable situation, so I'm not going to try and sell it as if you should be ignoring absolutely everything you read. But, don't let anyone tell you they've got this all figured out, because they don't. I'm more certain of that now than ever before.
If you take them at their word that they always review management this time of year (which seems reasonable to me), how could they clear things up when (as the norm) nothing has been decided on? I'm reminded of the frantic threads last year when Roy and Aldridge weren't already signed and how they were gonzo. I know that I don't know whats what but my best guess is the Blazers are just going about their business while the speculators are going about theirs. Grab some popcorn and watch things unfoldI get that point, but Barrett tries to sell this as if Miller's answers to his questions cleared a lot of things up that's been said in the media. In reality, it's just more of the same that cleared up absolutely nothing.

with history as my witness, the most telling quote of the interview was on the speculations this time of year
Believe me, the majority of this stuff is just absolutely unfounded and untrue. -Larry Miller
we shall see if Vescey and Co are right and KP is fired right after the draft and this "no decision has been made/this is how our business is always done" stuff was just a smokescreen.
STOMP
he's saying a majority of all the off season speculations around the league are false and only some are true... which is why he doesn't even read them. Certainly that seems to be true in my years of following offseason gossip. The way I'm reading his addressing this particular speculated on situation is that Kevin's regular evaluation isn't done yet and never is prior to the draft. So while it's true that his job may be in jeopardy, thats always true about this time of year.So if the majority is false, that means part is true. I believe most of what we hear is false, but most likely KP's job being in jeopardy is true. Just the why is the question.
That looks like a confirmation to me.from Quick
Didn't exactly deny it, did he.
Which is all the reason for not conducting the "interview".
