Mike Bibby Free agent target?

Anybody think he'd be worth going after this summer and if you were KP how much would you offer him and for how long.

Considerations: He is 30, but he's been pretty consistent throughout his career and is having something of a resurgence this season in Atlanta. Furthermore, he's comfortable playing off ball, he's a veteran with playoff experience, and he seems to be coexisting pretty well with Joe Johnson, who is a very similar player to Brandon.

Red flags: Bibby has never been considered a good defender, and his previous 3 seasons all indicated he was in decline, the fact that he's posting the best numbers he's had in 4 years in his contract year could indicate he's pushing himself for a payout and may never live up to the money he gets.

Personally, I think it might be worth the risk, The Blazers would certainly have to let one of Blake or Sergio (perhaps both) go, but I'm having a hard time thinking of a better FA that would be a realistic or good option for this team.

I don't see him as being a big enough upgrade to consider using our cap space on him. Frankly, I'm not sure we even need to upgrade the PG spot given the way Roy plays.

Mike Bibby is one of those guys that plays really hard if he is on a winning team, and really lackadaisical if he is on a crappy team. So what you are going to get will vary depend on what kind of a team you have. Considering Bibby has never been to the promised land, he might just be starting to get to the point of his career, where he starts to play really hard to try and get a ring before he retires. So I am mixed on this one.

I say no to Mini Me. Maybe before the season started I would have been for it, but the way this team is playing now, I don't think Bibby is a big enough of an upgrade.

Yes, I think they should...

First of all there are not any good "young" PG out there who are available...unless you are talking about a guy like Mike Conley...

Second, if POR believes that Sergio, or more likely, Bayless can run this team down the road but he needs time for seasoning, then this may actually be a very good strategy...

I look at Chauncey Billups (age 32) and I wouldn't mind him on this team right now...

I have checked the PG out there in the league and I just don't see a lot of PG who are likely to be available that 1) Are a significant upgrade over what we have amd 2) Fit within the age range of our core players....

Baron Davis maybe? (he is 29?) just signed a large deal with the Clips though...

Ray Felton is available...not a big fan personally

Jason Terry? 31, more of a shooter than a passer and I am not a fan of his either....

Nate Robinson? Kirk Hinrich?

I just don't see anyone else out there....and I don't see POR trading into the (high) lotto again to go after Ricky Rubio...nor Nate wanting to start over again with a young PG...

One thing about Bibby is that he is a three-point threat if he's healthy. For a couple of years in Sacramento he struggled with injuries to his hand (I think he tore a ligament in his shooting hand thumb) which dropped his FG% quite a bit. To be honest, I haven't seen him play lately. I think he's Blake+++ even if he's declined a bit.

When looking at team needs, I think we all agree that SG and C are SOLID, PF is GOOD, SF is THERE (with the play of our three guys) and that leaves PG where we need something to emerge. Blake is okay, but Sergio or Bayless are supposed to be the future. If they aren't, then we should look for someone with a proven record. It just depends on how much Bibby wants, as he'll want more than the MLE IMO.
