Mike Rice Jr. going viral

I never served, but I can't imagine drill instructors during basic training being touchy-feely. Like I said before, grow a pair.

If you never served, why do you keep using military training as justification for Rice's tantrums? The mission of the military is far different as are the people involved. Still, it is not appropriate to berate someone because of ethnic background, sexuality, or to physically strike anyone in the military.

Just because you had no problem with this style of coaching does not make it right. I would also contend that the training for football and basketball are also different. Still, saying that the kid from Lithuania just needs to grow a pair and stomach the abuse is a crock.

Which made them ineffective.

Perhaps the vituperative nature of outbursts didn't have the desired outcome, but we can't say that the message didn't get through.

I understand you're using sarcasm to some extent. However, you should educate yourself on current military training techniques.

Here's a link to an Initial Military Training Journal:
http://www.jackson.army.mil/sites/jacksonjournal/docs/667

And then there's this as a point of reference:
http://www.tradoc.army.mil/dcgimt/index.htm

Let me know the next time a drill instructor hugs someone in boot camp and worries about their self-esteem.

My point is that getting yelled at, called names and even pushed, hit or kicked isn't a big deal when you're being coached. If it is, perhaps need to question your own toughness.

I never played college basketball, but I'm remarking on this incident (I did play college football, however). Did you play college basketball? By your reasoning, if you didn't, you shouldn't be allowed to comment. And the role of basic training and sports have a lot in common: Learning to work as a team; put the goals of the group ahead of your individual ones; learn skills applicable to your role; respect authority; and several others.

Thank you for your opinion. Just because you do have a problem with his style of coaching doesn't make you right either.

I "cracked" on you for stating the obvious that Memphis is in playoff mode right now. No shit they are.

Get over yourself and stop derailing this thread with your agenda against me. Take your shit to a different thread or something.

No agenda, just enjoy calling you out on your own bullshit. You tend to crack on people than disappear when challenged. You're garbage regardless.

I guess you're determined to make this thread about you.

You didn't call me out on anything. Once again you look foolish.

Now, take your self-serving posts to another thread and stop derailing this one.

I'd argue the message didn't get through. No NCAA appearances and a losing record over his time at Rutgers, and went 16-38 in Big East conference games.

Why would anybody even try to defend this loser?

I'm not looking foolish at all. You're the one that always says I don't know shit or bring anything of substance here and I'm once again reminding you how wrong you are. You quit calling me out for no reason and we'll be fine. Remember I can have you kicked off this forum with one call to Denny....... watch your back.

Maybe they were shitty players?

I'm not defending him per se. I'm defending the idea that you shouldn't have to be Mr. Sensitive Pony Tail Man to coach in college. I think Bobby Knight being run out on a rail at IU was bullshit as well.

God you're such a tool.

I feel bad for our Mike Rice. It has to be a tough thing to go through as a dad and as a former coach. I bet he puts a good deal of blame on himself.

You keep using military training as justification and absolutely know nothing about it. Coaches do not get a pass on acting ethically. Using your logic, it would be acceptable for a coach to rape a player to get him or her to play better. Working hard and cussing I have no problem with. You cannot continually pick on a subordinate using ethnic and homophobic slurs.

I did my time in the military and played high school sports. Neither require homophobic/ethnic slurs.

It is the law. Someone at a position of power at a state university cannot use homophobic/ethnic slurs. That world you use to live is gone.

He's actually doing better today...... his grandkids are on twitter and had to read all that bad stuff about their dad. Said they took it hard.

Except you swung and missed and hit yourself, making yourself look like a fool once again.

Just realize, HCP is well respected and liked by most posters here including myself. So, if you are going to call him out, either make it funny, or step up your pathetically limp game.

He's the one that came into the thread and called me out dipshiit. I'm just responding to another one of his pathetic attempts to troll me.

At least get your shit straight when you direct a post towards me. I hate explaining things to the more simple posters.

Hilarious. Just because something isn't "required" doesn't mean it isn't done. Who the hell cares what a blowhard says? So he uses words people find offensive. Big deal. Be man enough to not let it bother you.

When did this country get filled with so many overly sensitive pussies?

See this is what frustrates me about you homie....... YOU STARTED THIS SHIT..... When I come back at you, you disappear then act like people are picking on you. Get your shit straight.

Please refrain name calling. I may be simple, but even I know that's against the rules here.

I'm going to be the bigger person here and stop the derailment of this thread. I will no longer continue to reply to your trolling in this thread. Take it somewhere else.

The high road has been taken..... I love it. I'll send you an autographed post card from Atlanta the summer.

Back on topic...

Rice Jr. definitely got what was coming to him, but people are ruthless with the hate these days, especially hiding behind the cover of the internet..

Humans are such hypocrites

Your crumbling under pressure

Our Mike Rice just made "Red Eye"! On the Halftime Report, Andy Levy mentioned that Mike Rice, Jr.'s father is a former coach and the current color analyst of the Portland Trail Blazers. He is also the only announcer to ever be ejected from a game. Of course he doesn't know the incident and how it was the fault of Steve Javie, so he infers that Thanksgiving dinner at the Rice household must be a lot of fun.

New to this thread. Don't want to comb through it. Has Mike Rice Sr commented and has it been mentioned on a Blazers game telecast? TIA

because these guys play with balls doesnt mean they should be called ***gots

and anyone defending this crap would no doubt be fine with their gym teacher doing the same to their kids im sure...

how about coach badass and a female high school vollyball team? i mean THEY SIGNED UP FOR IT AMIRITE!??
