Mike Rice Jr. going viral

Hilarious. Just because something isn't "required" doesn't mean it isn't done. Who the hell cares what a blowhard says? So he uses words people find offensive. Big deal. Be man enough to not let it bother you.

When did this country get filled with so many overly sensitive pussies?

Again using your logic, you should not feel sorry for Rice Sr. or Jr. because they should just be man enough to not let what anyone says bother them.

You may call it being an overly sensitive pussy, I call it being aware of the racial, male/female, and sexual preference progress that has happened during my lifetime.

all things being equal, would you choose this for your child?

i get the whole "tough love" thing, i really do, dont get me wrong, but seems like the "love" part was missing

Is it just me or does Mike Rice Jr. look a helluva lot more like Wheels than Sr?

New to this thread. Don't want to comb through it. Has Mike Rice Sr commented and has it been mentioned on a Blazers game telecast? TIA

No comment from sr. or blazers telecast. JR. Did apologize and seemed very sincere. JR has been laid off. Thread over? Not quite, a few people bickering in circles.

You keep using military training as justification and absolutely know nothing about it. Coaches do not get a pass on acting ethically. Using your logic, it would be acceptable for a coach to rape a player to get him or her to play better. Working hard and cussing I have no problem with. You cannot continually pick on a subordinate using ethnic and homophobic slurs.

I did my time in the military and played high school sports. Neither require homophobic/ethnic slurs.

It is the law. Someone at a position of power at a state university cannot use homophobic/ethnic slurs. That world you use to live is gone.

Wow, you should be embarrassed. Comparing rape to verbal insults. Give me a fucking break. How about you go out and get raped and come back and compare it with insults again.

I'd argue the message didn't get through. No NCAA appearances and a losing record over his time at Rutgers, and went 16-38 in Big East conference games.

Why would anybody even try to defend this loser?

I'm nost sure if you've been reading, but no one is adamanetly defending Rice. They are defending the right to have a sports practice that's not like a fucking tea party your little girl would attend.

You mean basketball practice isn't a bunch of guys in pony tails singing Kumbaya?

Let me know the next time a drill instructor hugs someone in boot camp and worries about their self-esteem.

My point is that getting yelled at, called names and even pushed, hit or kicked isn't a big deal when you're being coached. If it is, perhaps need to question your own toughness.

WTF does basketball have to do with the military?

Re read what I said. Verbal insults and ethnic/homophobic slurs are very different. If you want to twist what I said, that is your problem.

For different people in this thread, the line that Rice crossed is in different places. Opposing someone being racially/homophobically slurred is different that wanting everyone to receive a trophy at the end of competition.

All of which leads to a new issue, is Denny too soft on the moderators?

The key word being adamanetly [sic]. Hell yes people are defending him in this thread. They say they don't condone it, but then proceed to defend it. And, apparently if you don't defend him you are a soft pussy. Being alpha is cool.

That's quite the funny post. You should stick to discussing topics you know rather than infer. I had enough of your childish posts about supposed "toughness." Enjoy your day!

The problem with this board is that it's not tough enough. And it all starts at the top. If you want a lean, efficient economy, Denny, you'd better lose 40 pounds before you demand superhuman feats from us poor posters trying as hard as we can.

Mark it down. I agree with Papa G. About as rare as a total eclipse, if not rarer.

You agree with me on a lot of things, you just never read beyond the first sentence of anything I type, so you never know my opinion. Yet, I read through your rants completely.

Papa has opinions, I have rants. I express agreement, he insults me. Yet he says time after time I am hateful.
No wonder so many threads degenerate into bickering.

I won't play.

You just did.

I don't think this thread can die but I sure hope it would. Everything that has needed to be said has.

Putting away the moral/ethic dimension for a moment, it's just bad policy.

If I am a player and I can get a scholarship somewhere else, I very likely do it.
If I am a parent and my kid has any other reasonable offers, I strongly encourage my kid to leave.
If I am a prospective recruit I stay away unless I have no other offers.
If I am a parent of a prospective recruit, I strongly encourage my kid to do/go something/somewhere else.

As for the miliary thing, it's a matter of uniformity. If all of the coaches do it, then you know what you're getting into (like the military). However, if the coaching style is the peculiar to that one coach, you don't put up with it.
