I remember when the Rangers claimed Avery that Dallas paid half of his salary. Not sure under what conditions that were. I would take Richards at 5y 2.85 per but I think that happens only if he is on Re-entry waivers. Not sure how the waiver system works

Right, we got Avery at half price because he was on re-entry waivers. If we claimed him on his initial waivers it would have been full price. Not sure if this changed under the new CBA but that's at least how it used to work.

Keep in mind though, Avery was only on re-entry waivers because Dallas sent him to the minors to keep him away from the team and get his hit off the books. I dont think LA will be sending Richards to the minors, as they'll still be stuck with almost 5m on the cap regardless. And if they do, I think every team ahead of us on the waiver priority would love Richards at 2.85 per.

If a team claims him he'll most likely be their 2nd line center. No chance he comes here but at 29 with 2/3 Cups he Can be a good add for the right team. LA was never a high scoring team and we're deep at C.

Wait, if he clears waivers doesnt he become a free agent or am i mixing this up with something else? because if he hit the market and we were able to sign him then i would do that in a heart beat. 2 years 2.5 mil. guys still getting money from LA so... but if we can get him on re-entry waivers i would 100% take him at 5 years 2.85 per. for christ sakes the guys 29 years old, he can score and pass. hes better then all our centers on faceoffs. he needs a change of scenery. for christ sake were set defensively, and we gave tanner glass nearly 2 million a year fro 3 years. you will NOT get a better deal then that on the market for a third line center. 3rd line centers are demanding 2.5-3 million now a days regardless. unless its a rookie within the organization. but richards has the stats of a 3rd liner but lemme tell you, no way would he lack the way he is now if he was playing in AV's system. the rangers really need to look into this. maybe swing a deal jt miller, tanner glass and send them ryan malone since for some reason he isnt sniffing the pros in our organization.

I disagree Sleeps, he was waived because of his contract, not because of his production. 15 points (not 10) in 48 games is actually pretty good for a 4th line center. Kings just have 3 better centers, so he sees 4th line minutes with 4th line linemates. He'll be in the top 9 wherever he goes, and I'd bet his numbers will jump significantly. Not enough to justify that cap hit, but still productive.

from what i heard prod, he was not producing, he was demoted, his minutes were down, and he was a pain in the butt in the locker room (probably because he was demoted and what not) reguardless, he is not what he once was, he is over paid for his production, There's a reason he was on the 4th line, To think he can go to another team and be a number 2 or number 3 center and do amazing is absured. I don't see it, I never thought he was good in his prime, and certainly not now, now i feel you man we are struggling at center, but just because we are struggling doesn't mean we need to make a desperation move. There is time before the trade deadline and i am confident sather will do what needs to be done, You guys can hate on sather all you want but he has shined in my eyes since dumping gomez for our captain MCD. You compare him to another GM who has done better, but i can name you a bunch that have done worse, (peter cherrali, dumped seguin for trash because he didnt fit the system), etc.

first off before you idiots jump down my throat for wanting richards over miller, we need a REAL center. this team is built to make a run but not built to win the cup. a change of scenary is good for certain players and richards is that guy. age wise he is in his prime and he would thrive under AV. you have guys like krieder who arent living up to any hype that has surrounded him and stepan isnt doing a damn thing on the PP this year other then shooting it right into the goalies chest.

so kriedertime, who do you recommend the rangers get to fill that void on the third line?


you guys are way to high on the rangers home grown talent its blinds you from the fact that this team is no different then last years team. the islanders play the same type of game we do and they smoked us badly. granted halak plays out of his mind but still. richards is a guy who can easily catapult his way into stepan kind of numbers and ike i said. FIND ME A 3RD LINE CENTER.

Richards is not the answer. He's slow and his skill set is declining. There are a few ways to go. Santorelli is interesting. However, he's not the only option. Sather usually finds somebody nobody saw coming. I'm not ruling out a Hagelin for Anisimov deal. Columbus had a lot of high picks and many were at center. I don't see Anisimov being in their long term plans. He's a perfect third line center. He's got size, his draw % is down but he usually was around 49%. He's excellent defensively and always had a good shot. I would love to see them bring back Anisimov. You could probably get them to throw in Letestu. I think Hagelin probably has more value to teams because of his speed. Not much out there I would deal Hagelin for but he's one of them. Maybe Letestu and Anisimov for Hagelin and Stempniak. Letestu is winning 54% of his draws. He's a UFA next year. You could probably get Carter on Minnesota for a 4th rounder. Who knows, Minny might take Glass to fill his place. Doubt it. Dallas wanted Glass badly in the off-season. I see no reason they can't deal him there for a late pick.

Lets be realistic here, I like anisimov but the guy could never hit the Net. Hagelin brings excellent speed to the team and he's proven each year to be such a valuable asset come playtoff time. I think stemp for letestu is a complete wash, stemp actually fits in on this team and it was a bargain. The rangers need to get in touch with the Jets. that team is well rounded but I believe they can part with some assets and get a fair return from us. I believe bryan little or blake wheeler would be dynamite on the rangers. right handed shot who can actually shoot a one timer. that is the ket piece we are missing to our already very good power play. not to mention both of those guys are players and can skate with anyone. they would thrive under AV's system, quick, intuitive excellent hand eye coordination hockey players who would make our break out system better then it is. we have a bunch of restricted FA next season. Someone like stepan could def get dealt for either of them. Derek is going to demand brassard type of money and he will get it but i rather give it to a guy who can shoot a one timer.

Evander kane is also slumping badly on that team and that 6 mil cap hit isnt looking too pretty at the moment. I'm sure the jets wouldn't mind dumping him for the right return. maybe a chris krieder, derek stepan, 1st rounder nd dylan mclrath for kane and wheeler?.
gives the jets lot of cap room. 2 NHL ready players and honestly i love dylan and have always been high on him since the pick but we are stacked at D and skjei is higher on the depth chart. sending the jets mclrath opens the door for them to try and move some cash loaded d man for dylan.


I'm just toying with ideas. Don't give me that columbus shit. we should be done dealing with them and anisimov can keep his ass in ohio.

Nova, I am not sure what to say about your ideas. Miller for Richards. You want to trade away Stepan who has been great for us. The Jets are in the playoffs, why would they deal away big parts of their core?

Richards went unclaimed. No one wanted him. They couldn't trade him. And you wanted to deal Miller for him...come on bro.

I think you are in the right place with regards to wanting to improve the team, but you are way off with regards to how to do it. It doesn't get done by dealing Miller for Richards or by dealing Stepan.

The spotlight is on Sather for sure, but he needs to do it in a smart way, not the ways you suggest.

Stepan is a right handed brassard who cannot get it done on the PP. Stepan for wheeler would be a STEAL for us. wheeler is a better player all around. even bryan little is better then derek. now i am BIG on derek. i argue with my friend all the time about stepan bc he hates his guts and i am a big fan. but when it comes to bringing in a talent such as wheeler or little. the guys who become expendable have to be someone other then hags or fast or these names that everyone is throwing around. I'm talking realistic here when I say what it would cost to get a guy like wheeler. this team NEEDS a right handed shot on the PP for one timers from the top of the circle. we do not have that at all. blake wheeler is that guy but dealing fast hags and a bag of pucks wont get it done to obtain a guy who would have arguably the best one timer on the team.

Stepan is on a point per game pace this year. Over the past 3 seasons he has 133 points in 162 games. He's 24. Those are ridiculous numbers for a guy his age You don't trade a guy like that when you're already thin at C. I'm all about getting another scorer here, but not at that price.

As for WPG, this is not last year's Jets, they will be buying not selling. All the rumors out of WPG say they will be dealing one of their dmen for a top 9 forward. Their blueline is actually ridiculously stacked with Byfuglien, Enstrom, Trouba, Bogosian, Stuart, etc.
