I had the most random phone calls over the weekend from Military recruits. They had the nerve to call my cell phone to tell me about all the wonderful benefits of joining and defending my country. I have no idea how they got my information, but I was pissed that it's gotten to a point where the military is soliciting recruits over the phone.

I asked the recruiter if they supported the war. "She said absolutely, we need to protect our soil." So I asked, so why aren't you out on the frontlines fighting, instead of wasting my time calling me on a private number on the weekend?

Her genius remark was, "So I guess you're not interested, right sir...I will remove your name from the list."

"Yes please do!" - my response.

This took place Saturday.

Sunday afternoon I get another call from these booger eaters. This recruit was even more prepared to sell me on the idea of joining the reserves. He ran off a list of people I went to highschool with who went on to join the reserves and armed forces.

I really wanted to put him in his place, but I just told him to remove my name from the list and do it for real this time.

So I'm curious has anyone else been getting these type of calls?

Well what my school did is that if you submit a letter to the office at the beginning of the year they take you off the list because one thing I definately don't want to do is be in the milatary. I know it sounds rude but I just don't want to do and I never will.

I get em every once in a while..I never answer though, lol.

I used to get them. I told him I'd rather fight for a country like Lebanon, just to get his reaction. Called me a horrible citizen, hung up, and haven't been called since.

I don't think Canada has an aggressive program for recruiting soldiers. Or if they do, I've never been contacted or had friends complain about it.

Just say "no, I'm a member of Al-Qaeda." I'm sure they'll stop calling you.

Hahahaha. Just imagine the headlines. California native arrested for terrorist links to Al-Qaeda. He is believed to be the leader of a terrorist cell referred to as JBB.

Aww man...we'll all get arrested then! Crap...it doesn't help that I'm from Pakistan...haha.

I used to get them all the time until 2 years ago. They have never called my cell phone though. It's amazing how much access they have to our "personal" information.

I've gotten two of em the day after I turned 18, some coincidnence huh? The guy kept trying to butter me up by talking about the sports I'm in and stuff. I told him no about 20 times, then just hung up. A differnt guy called 3 hours later on my cell.

Does every american aged 18-40 receive a military recruitment phone call at least once?

Aren't you glad you live in Canada? No military = no recruitment.

Canada doesn't have a military?

Canada spends like 8 bill a year, US spends like 500 bill a year. US has about 9 times the population but spends about 50 to 60 times per year.

Yea, I was exaggerating. Our armed forces are basically involved in peacekeeping missions. But, I've never had recruitment pitch given to me, if I didn't ask someone first.

I've been called a number of times at home, but the only time I got called on my cell I bitched the guy out like I probably shouldn't have, ranting about the war and how pathetic it was that they were resorting to calling people on private numbers, all that jazz. Haven't gotten a call since then, though
oh.gif

umm i havent gotten a call but in the begining of the year if we didnt hand in something they would give your info to they army, i didnt tihnk it was a big deal and didnt get it filled out cause im only 16 and even if they did get my information ill just be like kiss my ass or something

Canada doesn't have a millitary? I'm going to get some people together and we'll take over Canada.

They'd stop calling alright......they're going to be on your front door within the next 24 hours.

It's sad now days someone looks at a guy from the Middle East and just assumes he's a terrorist.

I don't want to go to the military, why go get killed for no reason? I'm sure they have enough kids that have flunked out of school, why waste my life? Sure it's for my country, but they'd just send me out on the front line, selling you the idea your going to die for your country but your really going to die instead of them. I stay away from all military stuff @ high school, only thing I did was steal pencils & pens from their booth on Career day.

I am not trying to be racist or anything, but mostly black kids call me terrorists. If they are talking about my race, and calling me terrorists, then how is it different for us to call them the "n" word? Yea it hurts them because slavery has went on for a lot of years, but were muslims the reason for slavery. It was whites as far as I know. So why take action against us and make fun of our race when our race never did anything to yours? Also, if one word can hurt you then why can't another word hurt us? Why are us pakistanis being involved in this? Why call us terrorists and then be all sensitive to being called a name? Why say something to someone for no particular reason and not expext to be said something back at? I hope no one feels me being racist or anything, but that's what I feel towards this.

Black people have been the outsiders for many years, now the Muslims are the new outsiders. Umair, I think you should be talking to your teachers, not us. The alternative is to beat them up or threaten them that your uncle is a terrorist and he will suicide bomb their houses and families.

Your thought process is hypocritical. You don't like someone prejudging you and making a generalization about Pakistanis, yet you're doing the same thing with black kids. The problem is ignorance.

If I do that, then they will friggin tell the teachers, and these teachers here take this seriously, they might get police to search me or something. Even if you joke, they take it seriouisly. Very bs'ing. Its no point of talking to the teachers, they won't do anything, some are scared of blacks themselves. Bunch of wussies, that wont make them stop.

Actually not, I am saying that if they feel sensitive when someone calls the n word, then what is in their mind that makes them think that someone else won't get sensitive when you call them with racist remarks. If I call someone the n word, they will get mad, and they expect me not to get mad when they call me a terrorist. I guess the best way to deal with it is to ignore them. But it doesnt help, it happens like everyday, and I am getting tired of it. If I find I person saying this to me and I know I can whoop his tail, his asz is dead.

You're right, the problem is ignorance. They look at you and automatically assume that you are from Afghanistan. When I am like I am from Pakistan, they are like same thing, which I find very ignorant. But the worst part is that if you say something back, like call them an n word they wanna jump you or whatever. It is not right. They are very ignorant. They just say you're from that region and you look like Afghanistanis/Iraqi's so you're one of them. Thats not right. I also find this extremely ignorant.

They do expect you to get mad, that's why they keep doing it.

If you are bothered by the comments an ignorant person makes, then you must have self esteem issues. If they don't know the difference between Afghanis, Pakistanis, and Iraqi's, and group them as one, then they're f'n stupid.

Why do you care what stupid people think and say about you?

Yea, you're only bringing yourself down to their level, if you think that using that word is a justifiable response. You talked about their ignorance, but if you really do think that way, you're being just as ignorant as they are.

How am I being Ignorant? I agree with what shape is saying, but I still dont understand how I am being ignorant?

It was hypothetical. What I was saying was that if you sink to their level, then you would be just as ignorant as they are. Not necessarily calling you ignorant, right now.

I get what you mean.

Umair...deal with it bro...that's all you can do. The more you react to their bullsh*t, the more they're gonna say. Infact, your anger will give them fuel to make up new crap. Getting angry and whoopin someones ass for calling you a name is one of the worst things you can do. You whoop a kids ass... you're showing violence. So now what is everyone gonna call you? A terrorist. Why? Cuz you just whooped some kids ass. You just stay quiet and laugh it off. Don't talk back to them by calling them a name. What do you gain? They call you a terrorist, show them what a terrorist does NOT do.

Another thing is...it isn't just the Afghans or Iraqi's that are terrorists, so stop referring to them as such.

So basically...patience is the key little man. Anger makes you say and do things you regret later on.

Once when I was walking to school senior year (yea walking, suck my d*ck), a car pulled up right next to me by the sidewalk scaring the crap out of me and a guy hands me a card and says give us a call. The card was from the Marines and needless to say, I did not make that call.
