It's a proposed trade idea from the Buecher Report (or however it's spelled). He thinks we should trade Dre for a first round pick from Atlanta.

Atlanta is over the cap - something will have to come back.

If the prognosis on Roy's comeback and Camby's comeback is bad - this might be the right thing to do.

They're a playoff team and it would leave this team without a starting PG.

I don't see the incentive in this idea.

Atlanta has a $3.6 million traded player exception from the Childress deal, but that's not big enough to do this trade so I don't think Bucher was thinking clearly if he talked about trading Miller just for a pick.

with a high first round draft pick in a weak draft?

hooray, let's get another mid 20's pick.

We could save ourselves three pages of comments about how stupid this trade idea is if we just acknowledge that's not even possible.

LOL of course we should, but Bucher has a brain, and our front office doesn't

Understand ric bucher is to the blazers as what hcp is to mixum. hater. He's always hated the blazers. He even pumped okc over us when we were healthy. He enjoys our fall so this trade doesn't shock me at all. He despises Portland.

Isn't that where the Celtics got on Rondo in the weak draft of 2006? Add the fact that it would actually make our very own pick better...

If there is nothing better out there and the outlook for Roy/Camby is not good - making this year a waste - this is better than nothing.

What's better - playing .500 and maybe squeaking in the playoffs with the 8th seed and a high-first round pick or finishing in the lottery with possibly a top-10 pick in addition to a high-first round pick?

Sometimes taking time-off to breath and regrouping is better than slogging up the hill to finish mid-pack again and be tired again for the next try...

I think he's talking about the Bleacher Report ... and I've never seen anybody who posts their dreck on there display anything that suggests they might have a brain.

The list goes on about players in the 20's as well

The 2006 draft was week, and Portland did ok in that one....assuming you take Roy's knees out of it

Not to mention that the Celtics got the most important piece of their current championship run in the late 1st round of said draft.

Bleacher report is an entirely different situation

and in the history of the NBA, what percentage of those mid-20s draft picks end up being "Rajan Rondos" and what percentage of them end up being "Dante Cunninghams"? I think more likely than not it will be more of a complimentary role player rather than a star PG. You have to be realistic here. Rondo is the exception rather than the rule.

Bibby, Teague and a 1st for Miller.

Or Marvin Williams and Teague and a 1st.

Hold out for a better trade for a player that we can actually predict will bring more value to the team?

God damn, that means ZBO + clearing all that imaginary cap space for 2 years ended up being a late first round draft pick? Just gets shittier and shittier for that trade.

And the New England Patriots got Tom Brady in the sixth round, therefore sixth round picks are where you build NFL champions. ;)

There's a huge difference between it being possible to get a good/great player with a late first round pick and a late first round pick having a valuable expected yield.

For example, you can win several million dollars with a lottery ticket. That doesn't make it a good investment. Saying "Look at all the lottery winners that have been reported! Lottery tickets are clearly valuable!" isn't all that compelling.

If you want to show more methodologically that late first round picks tend to have a high yield, I'd be very interested in that. My own impression (I'm far too lazy to do a careful study) is that late first round picks have pretty low expected yield, even if some teams (rarely) hit the jackpot.

wait, you're saying that Ric Bucher is likeable, respected, smart, funny and liked far more than the Blazers?

So are you saying you are ric bucher?

to espn/NBA analysts this is probably true.

That's right. Sorry about that. He also said that in addition to the pick, Atlanta had the "right assets" for us.

This draft is top heavy. After the top-5 there's a pretty big drop off.

Why Cho wants to trade for picks that are likely to be mid-late first rounders is beyond me, especially in this draft.
