I'm hoping the Sale interest was a not so subtle prod to the Indians to up their offer for Miller.
 
Looks like the Indians are going to get Lucroy as well. Another good deal for the Yankees as they get two top prospects from the Indians just like they got two of the Cubs top prospects.

8:21am: The Yankees are also receiving minor league right-handers Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen in the trade, Heyman reports (Twitter link).


7:44am: The Yankees have agreed to trade left-hander Andrew Miller to the Indians, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. ESPN’s Buster Olney reports (via Twitter) that the Yankees are expected to get prospects Clint Frazier and Justus Sheffield from Cleveland in exchange for Miller. Olney tweets that the Yankees will receive a total of four players, though Frazier and Sheffield are the headliners. FanRag’s Jon Heyman tweets that the other two prospects involved in the deal are pitchers.


Miller, 31, has been one of baseball’s most dominant relievers for the third year in a row, but the 2016 season has been arguably his best. He’s pitched to a lights-out 1.39 ERA with a 77-t0-7 K/BB ratio and a 52.9 percent ground-ball rate in 45 1/3 innings. He’s earning $9MM this season and in each of the next two seasons — a highly reasonable price for a pitcher that has shown his level of dominance late in games. That he’s controllable for another two seasons beyond the 2016 campaign undoubtedly made this deal more palatable for the Indians, who have a deep enough farm system to make this move without gutting their entire pipeline of prospects. However, the price that looks to have been paid is unequivocally steep, as Frazier is widely regarded as one of the top 25 or so best prospects in the game, and Sheffield has worked his way onto a number of top 100 rankings as well.


While future iterations of the Indians may suffer down the line if Frazier and Sheffield reach their ceilings, Cleveland holds a 4.5 game lead over the American League Central division and has definitively announced itself to be in win-now mode. Cleveland reportedly has an agreement in place with the Brewers to acquire Jonathan Lucroy, but that move is pending his approval of the deal, as Lucroy has Cleveland on his no-trade list. Sheffield himself was mentioned as a possible component of that deal, but his inclusion has yet to be definitively reported. If the Indians are able to pull off both trades, they’ll have succeeded in filling two major voids on their roster with top-of-the-market upgrades as they push to capture their first World Series title since 1948.
 
Beltran needs to be moved today. As a upcoming free agent not coming back it's a no brainer.
 
Frazier is the Indians #1 Top Prospect and MLB's 24th overall, Sheffield their 5th Top Prospect- and MLB's 95th overall...

Heller is the Indians 25th top prospect, and is not listed in the MLB top 100...

Feyereisen, isn't even in the Indians top 25 or MLB's top 100- I'd want much more than this, ....

I would of liked to of seen Mejia come to NY....oh well...!
 
Considering what the Yankees got for Chapman and Miller the Pirates really made a bad trade with the Nats.
 
...not the return on Miller I was hoping for, but not bad at all either...2 very young and solid prospects for the future...let the long overdue rebuilding process of this poorly constructed roster begin.

...in the last week the Yanx farm system has suddenly become relevant, with promising youngsters that can either help fill out the roster or be used to acquire other players to fill other holes.

One reason Mejia is not noted in the MLB Top 100, is:

To be eligible for a list, a player must have rookie eligibility. To qualify for rookie status, a player must not have exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues, or accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the 25-player limit period, excluding time on the disabled list or in military service.


The rankings follow the guidelines laid out by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement in terms of who falls under the international pool money rules: Players who are at least 23 years old and played in leagues deemed to be professional (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba) are not eligible.


Players are graded on a 20-80 scale for future tools - 20-30 is well below average, 40 is below average, 50 is average, 60 is above average and 70-80 is well above average.

...pretty sure Beltran is going somewhere.
 
Move 'em all, especially Gardner, (who needs him now, not the Yanx)...

Beltran, Trashman should have the phone lines tied up all day to make this deal with Carlos-

McCann, I hate to see go, but He's still got some value and worth to trade for, plus the Yanx got no probs with backup Catchers, and I'd rather see Sanchez in lieu of Romine, playing back up....

Read where the Indians were close to landing Jonathan Lucroy while still hanging onto their two top prospects. (Evidently prior to the Miller deal)
One was Frazier, and the other Bradley Zimmer.
Frazier and Zimmer have shown similiar production and power. .278/.812 ▪▪▪▪▪ .271/.835
Both can steal bases but Zimmer has stolen over 30 and 40 in a season and bats LH.

Would've been sweet if Yanks could've also landed this Zimmer kid.....big LH hitter (outfield, DH) who has shown ability to steal over 30 and 40 bases in different seasons.

Let's hope this "little" lefty Sheffield is the goods.
Yanks are going to need (imo) at least ONE quality LHSP down the road to help balance the rotation and of course nullify opposing LH hitters at YS.
He's still very young, long way to go....can't complain much (lol) over Yanks grabbing a young lefty.

future. There are still more pieces to move.
 
Was out doing yard work this AM came back to see all this activity and am one happy fan. Keep up the good trades and make us Yankee Fans think we have a future instead of adding over the hill has beens on a yearly basis. In addition to acquire new pieces pay Tex and A-rodham and tell them to enjoy their generous severance packages.

Please,... someone tell me the Yanks have at least one kid from AAA -AA who can fill the role of Clippard for the remainder of this season.
I guess he's better than Yates and Swarzak, I guess.

Yanks seem to be cornering the market on young outfielders.....and you know what, with the exception of Torres, and he's still a "baby", it seems to me "all" or most of these position players recently acquired
aren't any better or much better than the Yankees' "top" prospects.

Not ONE newly acquired outfielder has batting stats which grab your eye.
Yeah, yeah....I know they're still very young....I hope they all turn into future AllStars.
Is there a gaddam young 3bman out there who can poke a few long balls?

Headley, unless he visits the pharmacy will probably be on his way out by this time next year......I think.

Mattingly, I was listening to w-fan morning show and they had a scout on that was familiar with the indian players and he said heller projects to a 7th, 8th inning guy and throws 98mph and feyereisen projects also to 7th and maybe 8th inning set up guy and throws 95. I wonder if their not listed in mlb top 100 because they are relievers. They sound like they both have big time arms for the bullpen.
 
Frazier is a stud. Judge, Frazier and Rutherford. The infield is loaded with young talent as well. Now, if only they could develop some elite starting pitching. Their pitching sucks.
 
Agree, hopefully, trading beltran and mccann and others can bring back a starting prospect or 2. Even though they probably won't mets not getting lecroy would be a good fit for yanks getting mccann as they still have a couple of good pitching prospects coming up. They should make deal if mutually good for them both.

Would like a 3rd base power hitter also. Wonder since he has no position to play there if texas could use anything yanks dealing for Gallo
 
And also yanks should continue to plunge in standings making their draft pick better for next year. Currently have 12th pick and would be nice if we can get in that 5 range where the future ace starting pitchers lurk.
 
Anyone think if Yanks can get a big return they should trade betances also?

It may be due to this criteria. Thanks for the WFAN info, I didn't know that much about either. I bet neither is listed due to this criteria; which also is applicable to Mejia:
