Miller wants to stay

Good article. Glad to hear it. I'm still not sure what we're going to do with so many injuries.

And this is why he should start and we should trade Blake...

Bayless looked awesome in the last game. There's no reason why we can't have Dre/Bayless.

exactly, use Blake and whoever to trade for a big - no brainer, develop Bayless. How hard is this to figure out.?

What bigs could be had for Blake/Outlaw?

David Lee? Could we run with a Lee/Aldridge front court? Lee makes roughly the same amount as Blake/Outlaw combined. I think we should move for Lee. He would be a nice piece to have and he's on a one-year so if it doesn't work out, we can let him walk this summer.

I don't think there's difficulty in figuring it out. The difficulty is creating one problem to shoire up another. yes, we need another big body or 3. But with Rudy's back tweaked, dumping a guard right now doesn't seem like an ideal situation either. Unless we get back the same amount of players we send out, which is difficult with our contract situations.

I agree ... I thought more important that Bayless scoring and hitting pull up jumpers off of cross-overs was the way he defended. Sure there were a couple of fouls you'd like to have back, but I thought he did a very credible job staying with a water bug like Brooks and he was strong enough to deal with a fireplug like Lowry.

It's funny, but I almost see this team as being west coast version of the Sixers last year, with Brand going down for the year being somewhat equivalent to Greg going down and being left with Miller, Lou Williams and Andre Iguodala looking almost like a weird facsimile of Miller, Bayless and Brandon.

The Oden injury wasn't a good thing by any stretch of the imagination, but in great adversity you often times find out more about people's character and what they are all about. If this bonds this team together then so much the better for when Greg finally does come back to a team that has been through the wars together.

Now we wait and see what happens.

?? Did I miss something last game?

He had zero assists....4 fouls..in 20 minutes. Yes, he was 4-6...but do we want zero assists from our backup PG?

If we're going to do that to play alongside Roy then I think everyone needs to find a new PG to replace Miller because even though he's an assist guy he needs the ball in his hands too. I think there is a contradiction between Miller and Bayless and saying they should be paired at the PG spot.

I just don't see the ball dominating point guard that so many people make Miller out to be. Yes, he needs the ball in his hands.... everyone needs the ball in their hands to score or pass. Damon Stoudamire was a ball dominating point guard. Sergio was a ball dominating point guard. I hardly ever see Miller dribble the ball around the perimeter for 10 seconds, waiting for something to happen.

Yeah, I think you missed last game.

Since when does fouls make for a bad PG? Come on, Bayless was playing aggressive perimeter defense, unlike some, and he drove hard to the basket. I think people are overrating the "assist-machine" mentality for a PG. Bayless can score, and score well.

Miller will make everyone better, when he is our starting PG we'll win more games. It's pretty evident every time he plays hes better than Blake.

I'm all about starting our best 5. And at this point, I still think Bayless is better than Blake, which is why I added him to the 2nd string rotation.

miller is all we have at pg. blake has regressed. he never recovered from the rocket series. bayless is a sg.

Bayless had 0 assists last game, but he primarily played SG, taking Rudy's minutes.

Well, the problem with fouls is that no matter how great a player he is, if he can't stay in the game too long it won't be too much of a help, no? And I just don't see Bayless dominating the way Oden could/can/will.

My point about scoring v pass PG is to determine exactly what people are looking for in the PG, understanding that Roy needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Now maybe some people think we should trade Roy, but I'm not in that camp. And if Roy needs the ball to be effective, and Miller needs the ball to be effective then there seems to be an issue - at least when Oden was around. If Roy doesn't need the ball to be effective, but can play off the ball and take all the shots, then my point is what good is Bayless if he can't pass?

I'm not saying Bayless doesn't have some value, just that it seems there are two contradictory assets on the team.

In order to make an assist you have to have the ball in your hands.

In order to score you have to have the ball in your hands.

If Miller is great at either scoring or making assists he'd have to have the ball in his hands.

Doesn't mean he's a ball-hog, per se, but he's got to have a touch every time down. I think Roy is the same way. The situation is a little easier - unfortunately - because Oden is gone and so it adds touches for the rest of them.

Houston isn't the kind of team that gives up a lot of assists; it's the way they play defense by rotating and covering the perimeter. I thought Jerryd's play was completely within the flow of the offense and if you look at the role he was playing out there (mostly shooting guard in place of Rudy) I wasn't shocked to see him get zero assists.

It also makes is less infuriating when I see Miller jack up as many shots as LMA/Roy with only 3 assists. If anything, Miller's "score-first" mentality now becomes an asset with Oden out for the season. I know KP didn't envision that being Miller's role, but having a 3rd scorer like Miller now becomes crucial.

Oddly, I see Miller as more of an asset now that Oden is done for the year, especially with Outlaw being unavailable.

The Blazers had 23 assists in the first meeting with the Rockets. :dunno:

I'm not saying you can't when you have wings who can shoot the ball or a low post presence, but with barely anybody hitting from the perimeter off of the catch and shoot and LMA firing blanks to the tune of 5-14, there weren't a lot of opportunities for getting assists the other night.

Just watching the game I didn't get the impression Jerryd was being selfish, he took what the defense gave him and he made them pay. Everbody's assist numbers were below average Saturday, it was just the kind of game it was

I don't have a problem with Bayless having zero assists. If he's going to play the "Outlaw" role of initiating offense off of the bench, we'd better get used to it anyhow.

Pretty much.

Well basically we have been going for a year now, with Nate not figuring it out. My question is, how far along would Bayless had been if he had just been thrown into the fire? There is no chance of this happening with Nate being coach. He is just too frackin stubborn.

Why aren't we throwing Pendergraph into the fire (taking him off the DL)..? Why not throw every rookie into the fire every year?

Pendergraph is hurt. How are we supposed to throw him into the fire with a hurt hip? Seeing as we have no backup C right now, I imagine if he is healthy in January, he will get thrown into the fire quickly.

Bayless was projected top 5 before we got him after the slide. Like OJ Mayo Territory. Do you not agree that there is a difference between a top tier talent players potential, and a guy who is drafted at 33?

There's no use arguing with Blake's BFF. McMillan finally sees the light and plays the winning hand and some fans will just not see the reasons behind it.

If your going to keep Miller, then I agree that Blake should be traded. Even though Blake & Miller actually play well together, the "Roy" situation would still create confusion and uncertainty.

The best scenario is to try and get Orlando to trade Bass for Blake plus whatever.

You know I don't see it that way. Blakes contract is in it's final year. I really don't see what the problem is with telling a player of Blakes caliber and contract amount to sit down. Most of Blakes career he has been a bench boy. He won't make waves if he is sat down now.

Lee is a BYC player, we don't have the cap room to make a trade for him.

I understand your POV, but I still think Nate and Roy will not let that happen.

Also, I believe Blake does want to play. It would be silly to think he would be satisfied with sitting on the bench, when he has started every year in college and the last 4 years in the NBA.

By trading him, you avoid the conflict. You can easily pick-up a 3rd-tier PG to ride the pine anytime.
