No, I'm saying that if everything goes absolutely perfectly and everybody makes the leap and nobody gets hurt, THEY STILL AREN"T WINNING 54 games! How is this this difficult to understand? I'm saying if Kevin Love becomes the best PF in the League and Rubio magically improves even with his ACL tear and Roy and Batum do what they're expected to do, THEY STILL AREN'T WINNING 54 GAMES. But if not all of those things happen, then they're going to be in the lotto. With a chance at the #1.

Huh, I am thick headed, andI got the point the first time. I have to go with Brian on this. We all have to agree that Roy will not be able to play to his old allstar level, the odds of Rubio jumping in and playing at the level he was at are slim to none. I would expect to see Nics number go up, but, whos touches is he going to get? Loves? I give us the same odds of winning 54 games next year, zero.

Change thread title. NOT full of shit!

Now Portland has to decide if they want to cripple their franchise for years by matching, or letting him go. Not a bright move by Olshey me thinks.
Here's the difference, buddy. POR is already set up for a good stretch of cap space. Even if they sign (which they're going to do), they're under the cap this year, they'll be under the cap next year, Babbitt and E-Will aren't going to need extensions in the 3rd year (so we're ok) and Nolan aren't going to need large extensions in the 4th year (so we're ok), even if we extend LMA early.

How do you think we'll be crippled?

For a guy that doesn't even want to be there.

His heart is in Minny. Good luck with that.

yeah, let him walk. he's not that good. certainly not going to be an allstar.

How will it be "crippling"? What move can we not make b/c of this extra few million? We're not going to be in the lux tax for at least 3 years, and that's if we spend like drunken sailors every MLE period. I don't see that happening.

We just locked up 5 first-year players at reasonable/rookie-level deals. We have 3 others (Nolan, Babbitt and EWill) who are still on (late-pick) rookie deals for 2-3 more years, we have one player making the MLE, and one making more than the MLE (LMA). If we match Batum, it's still not putting us within 4M of the cap line (much less the Lux Tax line) and we have flexibility going forward.

I'd like to get your quote here. Stupid for what? Be specific please.

Making an offer instead of just waiting for Nicolas to take the QO and become an UFA next summer ... I mean I assume Minnesota really wanted him no?

If I'm right, we'd still be 6-7 million under the cap next summer too. There's nothing crippling about signing Batum and telling Khan to rot on Ceti Alpha V.

My math says you are right, which means you probably aren't :)

Assuming the 8th pick cap hold, I have us right at 53M committed for summer 2013. Cap should be around 60-61M, so 7-8M in space sounds about right.

I've met Brian, I don't think he's ever taken an aspirin. He's not the mod on drugs around here.

Yeah, man. And did you see that double rainbow? Oh god! What does it mean?

barfo

"why does ice cream have to steal the rainbow?"

LOL @ khan. i guess they DON'T have the money saying they WILL sign him to an offer sheet unless the blazers facilitate a S&T by the end of the day.

nice bluff.

I was curious why they could have him sign the sheet when they only amnestied Darko and they needed to do that AND waive some players.

Don't make me do it! No really I will! You better S&T by end of Wednesday or we will sign him.

Hey we are going to sign him! We really will. You better S&T by end of Thursday or we will sign him.

Ok Thursday came and went.

If you don't S&T by end of Friday, we will sign him to an offer sheet! We really will this time! No foolsies! We are serious. We will really do it this time.

Gotta hand it to the dumbasses... they will go down fighting with their very last breath. watching their hopes go from 20% to 10% to .0001% has been a joy.

The only outcome that would piss me off is if they take crap back for Nic.....like the Korver + 2 picks discussed yesterday.

Go Blazers

So to get this straight...if he walks for nothing you're ok, but if he walks for a 500k cap hit and two draft picks you're pissed off?

Hasn't the statute of limitations run on that frivolous claim? Good lord Khan, you had a physical done. Why would anyone anyone ever want to make a trade with you ever again?
