So the bodybuilder bronze tanner that Mitt wore on Telemundo didn't go over well with Tim?

Surely you jest.

PAWLENTY: "... My new position as CEO of The Financial Services Roundtable does not allow me to participate in partisan campaign activities. For that reason, I am stepping down from my position as co-chair of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign. My work with Mitt has been a privilege. Mitt Romney is a truly good man and great leader. As the campaign moves into the home stretch, he has my full support and continued faith in his vision and his policies."

Looks pretty straight forward to me. Looks like you're the one trying to do the twisting. Maybe you should change your name to Chubby Checkers. Ah, probably before your time.

the bigger story is a high level politician becoming a lobbyist for the banking elite, but whatevz

It's about the timing.

Yes, it is pretty straight forward.

Mitt has hit the fan.

I know. there's NO way he can win!

Why not finish what he started?

Most here would leave their current job to take one that makes $2MM/year. Of course, I may just be spitballing.

those banks arent gonna write their own friendly legislation

Random question but do you know why people use MM for millions of dollars and not M like mega, which E6 as well?

I don't know; it's just what I learned working in corp fin. "M" represents thousands in that world instead of "K". Do you know the answer? Because I'm curious as to why.

As Maxie says, I'd guess it's because he got offered a really good job. Point is, he gave a direct explanation of where he was going and why. Any twisting of the circumstances as being negative to the Romney campaign is being done by folks like you.

Cool! Thanks to everyone who pointed toward the Romans! I'll rep everyone I can for that one.

Quick question: Isn't the role of a campaign chairperson mostly an honorarium for a surrogate? If Eric Fehrnstrom or Beth Myers made a similar move, I that would be really significant. This one? I think Gov. Pawlenty is looking for a job.

I guess kinda smart to start looking for a job and accepting one when he started to realize there wouldn't be a Romney cabinet.

Those $2MM cabinet positions are rare indeed.

Would you take a job that paid $150K instead of one that paid $2MM? Unless you've made your money, I don't think many would.

I agree. The co-chair of Romney's presidential campaign just got offered a 7 figure salary by big financial institutions. I guess we know where his true interest lies . . . with big business.

Hope Romney doesn't feel any obligations to him if Romney wins election. I can tell you on a local level that if you significantly help a politician get their position, there is probably some favorable gig for you down the road.

If he ultimately wants to have a political position later in his life, it makes him look kind of bad. But it is arguably hard to turn down that kind of pay check for a "maybe" job later.

If I'm a young politician looking to further my political career, yes.

Or by a Columbia University economist:
Jeffrey Sachs, the noted Columbia University economist, tweeted:

"What a joke! Romney campaign co-chair quits for lobbying! Aside from bailing ship, exposes the systemic corruption."

Rahm Emanuel went to go work for Wasserstein Parella and make $20MM+ in three years after he left the White House. Trust me, that money is good even if you've spent 10-15 years doing investment banking. Like it or not, it's done with both parties.

Who's cabinet was Emanuel potentially going to be on had he not taken that job?
