MLB Baseball Cards-

i have a card, who has the picture of 1 player and the stats of another, it is a misprint obviously, not a great player.. curious to know what it is worth...

Pastafazul:

What player card is on the front, and who's stats are on the back? do you know the year and manufacturer of the card, sound indeed like an error card. Some error cards are never corrected, then some are. If an error card is caught early on in the print cycle, and corrected, making it say 20 percent of the total, with 80 percent of the same card corrected. Then typically the error is usually worth considerably more. If the corrected card is say only 20 percent of the total, the corrected card would be worth more.

Some cards like the Montana 1990 Error, were corrected once approx. 50 percent of all cards were printed. Thus the error card is booking for the same amount as the corrected card. IMO the error is priceless, as I have never seen any QB card, with 3,000+ Touchdowns, with but 31 Passing Yards.

Ive got like 10k cards, all the big rookie cards from the 80s, some 1960s football cards, David Robinson's rookie card, old Jordans, I have jaromir jagrs rookie card, patrick roy, a few giants cards from the 70s, and a great collection of will Clark Haha.

Like someone else mentioned though, the commons aren't worth the paper they are printed on, the market dropped out for everything except the cream of the crop

I honestly didn't even know there were hockey cards.... love hockey and never knew...

I have quite a few, I'll see if I can dig some rangers? out and post them

Not a rag$ fan myself... Devils fan here...

Any Devils cards 3RA1N1AC?

Im sorry I mean martin Brodeur, I have a few of these I know
martin.jpg

ill dig them up im pretty sure i have a few complete sets from around that time

I put Mickey Mantle in the spokes of my bike. SON-OF-A-BITCH! had I only known.

One of the better 'new millenium' era sets is the 2005 Topps set, only if you acquire the 'Update and Highlights' set with the Factory Set. The 05 Factory Set only has rookie cards of Kinsler, Weeks, D.Wright and Ethier.

The Update Set is Loaded with rookies, the factory set lacks, tha is: Prospects, Draft Picks and Future's All Star Rookies. Including to name a few:

Draft Picks: M. Garza/ R. Romero/ J. Ellsbury/ J. Mayberry/ Jered Weaver/ S. Drew/ C. Volstad/ A. McCutchen/ J. Bruce/ R. Zimmerman/ C. Pennington/ C. Rasmus/ R.Braun.

Futures All Stars: J. Verlander/ Shin-Choo/ Hanley Ramirez/ N. Cruz/ B.J.Upton/ D. Young/ C. Young/ E. Encarnacion/ F. Liriano/ C. Jackson/ Andy LaRoche/ M. Montero/ K. Thompson/ R. Garko/

Prospects: Dan Johnson/ H. Bailey/ 'King' Felix Hernandez/

and a young 21 year old Matt Kemp, (a stand alone rookie card)- (neither in Prospects, Draft Picks or Futures
All Stars).

Glad to see you could make it Paul...!!!

Hey Rick, Berra_10_ is my older Brother In Law. I've been waiting for him to come aboard for a week. Hail's from Wichita, KS. A Vietnam Vet also.

Get this, in 82, he comes out here to CA., newly married to one my sisters, driving a souped up 69 Chevy Nova, pulling a Harley, and wearing, Disco Heel shoes...LMAO...

The kicker tho' is, he watched me intently collecting MLB-Cards, for the 2 weeks he visited. I gave him a few Sports Collectors Digests, (then the Bible of Sports Cards and Memorabilia Collecting). I told Paul: since you live in KS., if I were you, I would hit up every small town yard sale, estate auction, and look for old baseball cards. Paulie one upped me, he goes out gets his Auctioneer License, then commences to go from town to town, telling folks to bring their stuff to Wichita to Auction.

Paul, being the guy who would Auction these, got first bid, if there were no or little $$$ Limit to the cards. The S.O.B. (I say this in fun, he's a great guy), wound up to this day, and 20 years ago, with cards I only have dreamed of having. It is mind boggling. I bet Paulie is in his work shop right now collating a mountain of old cards. Retired, he has nothing better to do with his time.

Way back in 91, he made enough auctioning off a small part of his collection, to buy my sister a new to her, & low mileage Corvette...!! S.O.B. Some guys get all the luck, and Paulie wiped out all those old cards found in attics, barns, along with a old car and Harley or two. He left nothing for us.......or anyone else. LMAO...

Paul, come out come out wherever you are.

I put Mickey Mantle in the spokes of my bike. SON-OF-A-BITCH! had I only known.

Holy Cow, wait a minute, is that what caused the Mick to have bad knees, and ankles, he got them caught in your spokes? Oh the horror of it all......Do you recall losing any other valuable players to your bicycle spokes?

matt23 and berra 10 rings. THANK YOU for your service!

The pleasure was all mine Pasta.....!!
! (I wouldn't trade those memories for a Rookie Mantle 52 Topps, and a T-206 Honus Wagner, seriously).

I lucked out, working mostly Stateside, on Bombers, Fighters, (or combos thereof), Cargo and Re-Con Aircraft. with the Air Force. Paulie, aka:Berra_10Rings, spent years in the Jungles, as an Army Medic. He always told me, the Red Cross on his Medic Back Pack was often used as a Bullseye for Viet Cong. He had his Bicep torn to shreds from a AK-47. (I'll let him tell his own stories).....

My own career blossomed years later, when I entered the private sector, working for Lockheed, Rockwell NAAO and STSD (North American and Space Shuttles). To retire on the Northrop-Grumman: B2 and JSTARS Programs. A life of great memories of men/women and their spectacular flying machines. To many memories/moments to single any one out. Perhaps getting to meet each Space Shuttle Crew, or First Flight of the Flying Wing. (Those Shuttle incidents we took personally, broke our hearts, but not our will).

I guess I got to call my sister in KS. and tell her to get the Mountain Rescue Search Dogs out, to pull Paul out from under his Mountain of Baseball Cards. Never a need to be shy here Pauliie, (want a cracker)????

Pasta-do you know what year the error card is, or manufacturer. Got to love those 89-91 Upper Deck NHL Update Cards. Those 2 sets are freaking loaded with Mogilny, Bure, Fedorov, Larionov, Fetisov, and Hasek (tho a Czech).

IMO, once the Russian Red Army Hockey Team came to the NHL, Hockey has never been the same. I can not recall anyone other than Gretzky, (anyone seen Lemieux do this one:) Fedorov, as a Defenseman, got the puck behind his own Red Wings Net, and skated past, around, every single player on the other team. Five men trying to take out Fedorov, and he makes them all look like kids, a comedy of trial, mores-so errors!!! Sergei, slid the puck between the legs of one defender, picking the puck back up with his stick, as he blew by the frist of five defenders. Skating un-deterred all the way down the Ice, and Scored! Holy Cow, what a memory burned into this brain. I would put money on Fedorov or Bure, even over the Great One, when it comes to pure skating.

Tho' in all reality, Gretzky made such feats look routine.

The Otis Nixon error card #392 with Alex Cole on back was not corrected by Topps Stadium Club. The 89 Nolan Ryan Donruss Error cards, had two blockbuster mistakes and some minor ones. The backs of Nolan Ryan`s 5,000 strikeout card (No. 659) and his Super Diamond King issue (No. 665) were reversed.

All three errors, which appear to be in very short supply, already have been corrected. When an Error Card is corrected, the error card may not be of more dollar value than the corrected one, UNLESS, the Manufacture corrects the error early in the printing process. Whichever error or corrected card has the least amount of printings, that card (less printed) becomes of more value dollar wise than the other. However, any error card regardless of being the most or least printed, always has collectors value, regardless of quantities. Yet, those not corrected, like the Nixon/Cole card unfortunately are booking for approximately 50 cents. Ridiculous if you ask me, as any error card or coin, is always an oddity, worth collecting.

Like the 90 Montana Fleer Card, both the corrected and error cards are booking for the same price. I'd much rather have the error as would most collectors. As mentioned prior, who wouldn't want a Montana Card showing a lifetime of approximately 35,000 TDs with only 241 Passing Yards. As of end of 1990 Season.

Here is a link of numerous 1987 Minor and Major Topps error cards. One of the Majors would be Boggs card, with no back print on it. Mattingly's Minor Error, the correct card has the Trademark in the baseball under the Eagle in the left upper corner, the error is missing the TM. So on........I cannot off the top of my head recall what the exact error of Clemens 87 is. I have to either pull the card from my sets or other individuals. Somewhere buried in this house, is a list of every error I know of, with a very long list of those 87 Topps, errors. No other set to my knowledge, excluding the first 3 yrs of Donruss and Fleer sets, ever has as many errors. Fleer and Donruss' first couple of years were a horribly bad set of pictures, prints, and many other problems they both encountered in their fist attempt to mass produce baseball cards. They did go on to get their shit together by 85 on, producing some very nice cards.
The sad thing about the 86 and on cards, were all companies mass produced their cards into almost a value-less product.

Yet us hobbyist are never concerned (much) about the value of cards price wise, only the pure sentimental value, be it historical or otherwise.

More on the Russian Red Army cards to come, later.........a great series of players.

I have a Gary Pettis card that's a picture of his brother

like your opinion of what you think mcguire, bonds, and clemens cards are, or will be worth in future, have a lot of them.

I can't to my memory recall one Anthony "Tony" Gulli. Sounds like an incredible guy....

It does amaze me tho' how small this world is, or how large or small Aerospace Workers are.....I have met more people in AC hangars around the country, who I have worked with in either McConnell AFB, Edwards AFB, Barksdale AFB, Castle AFB, or Plant 42 Aircraft and Space Production Final Assembly and Test Facility in Palmdale, Ca.

It is a small world after all.

Pasta....

I will indeed give this one some thought, and get back to you on your very good question....

What I am seeing and what I am thinking right now seem like two different things.

I need a day to think this one out, or see if I'm seeing straight, double, or if my hunch is equal to my actual vision. If what I think is a fact, as some of these Steroid Monsters cards have plummeted in price, yet some are still pricy.

A odd thing I'm seeing in the Baseball Card market, and hobby. (my thinking isn't equaling what I think I'm seeing, or what I am seeing is an illusion, or is maybe, baseball card collector's greed. Or, an attempt to salvage money spent by collectors, who are trying to recoup their losses, by buying up to many cards of Steroid Monsters)...Whew, I began to confuse myself here.

I said this will not be about me, or my collection, so it won't be, although, let me just share with you all, a bit of eye candy, of those cards, I revere above all others.

Brooks RC 57 Topps.jpgKoufax RC 57 Topps.jpgMantle 57 Topps.jpgMays 57 Topps.jpgSpahn 57 Topps.jpg

Both Koufax and Brooks are their Rookie Cards, all 1957's the best year IMO for MLB cards, less 1952 Topps of course.

and of course one from the NBA collection....

Oscar Robertson's Rookie Card.
Anyone ever seen the Oscar Interview on NBA Legends, explaining why he never slam dunked a basketball, (tho' he could of very easily did so at anytime in his career. He also explains how he became so adept at the outside line shot. Great stuff, legends are made of.

Put 'em up if you got 'em, I'd love to see what you got, more than I would like to look at my own.
