Mo Williams?

Just look at Mo's game log for last year, and tell me that CJ could not duplicate that if given the same commitment of playing time. Add in Blake's contribution in running the second unit, and I see no reason to bring back Mo.

We're talking consistent 2-7, 3-11, 1-6, 1-7, 3-9, 1-6, 1-5.....

Mo ranked 75th among point guards in WARP last season... That's average for a third PG.

I say sign him for a year at the $3.15MM number. Mo wants a long term deal, and he's not going to get it this year, so he may as well maximize his earnings. Let he and Blake fight it out for minutes. Whichever one loses, you trade. We're going to have to make a consolidation trade anyway, and either Mo's expiring deal or Blake's BAE are both attractive.

There's absolutely no reason to sign Mo now. If you want a 3rd string pt guard you can sign Billups or a D leaguer or any cheap bench guy for insurance.

As long as we're signing disgruntled Lakers, Steve Nash at 40 would fill Earl Watson's shoes really well as a mentor and guy you could trot out once in a blue moon.

I'd love to bring him back as the third string/injury insurance pg. He'd probably hate that though and raise a stink in the locker room.

If one of the PG's is injured CJ, Barton and Batum can handle the backup duties just fine. In the unlikely event both are injured we can sign a DLeaguer and cut Clavier, Crabbe or Meyers. The problem with adding Mo is he will expect minutes; but with Blake, CJ also hoping for backup minutes we'd definitely have disgruntled players in the locker room. If this were fantasy basketball then hell yes grab the extra PG but in the real world where chemistry matters Neil needs to consider if players will be content with their role on the team.

Speaking of cutting Meyers...someone remind me why this hasn't been done yet? I mean, we've got Uber-Lopez, we signed the Sasquatch Kaman and Joel is a nice option (since he can spread yas a little if he plays the 4)....Meyers seems unnecessary and eating up a roster spot. Are we _that_ scared of the Center position that we have to carry 4 of them on the team at once? I mean if all three went down the backup plan (aka Oden era) is to swing LA into the 5...or hell put T-rob on a Center (be curious to see him go-Wes on a slower Center in the league and just snatch that ball out of their hands...then roar a little for good measure).

Ummmm Bob W got us to the WCF TWICE! What did he prove wrong? We were a couple baskets from the NBA Finals. Having lots of great players is the only way to get it done. Look how SA's depth killed everyone in the playoffs. They had room for Patty and Manu and Marco. 3 guards off the bench in significant minutes!

Second of all, INJURIES. They happen. Blake has had a major injury in each of the last two seasons. If Blake can't go, Mo can. When they're both healthy, they play together. If CJ or Will are better, they play instead. Let them compete to be in the rotation. There has NEVER been an NBA team that has lost a championship because they had too many good players. Maybe too many good NAMES. But never too many good PLAYERS.

http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/story?id=100698 pine-ing away for wittsett? only twice did his teams win 50 or more games or get out of the first round. one of those finals apearances 1 was the lockout shortened season so a rested sabonis was still effective. 50 game season. names like Patterson, wells, rider kemp and Randolph perhaps tug at the nostalgic heart strings? personally his knuckleheads aren't missed.

I had a dream that he signed with the Rockets, that was such a weird WWE heel turn kind of dream.

Guaranteed contract, plus potential and possibly trade value. You don't cut a player unless you have someone else to bring in that has a better combination. Most of us will be surprised if his option for next season is picked up, though.

I'm still waiting for a bolt of lightning to strike Frankenstein's monster and turn him into a basketball player.

"Arrrgh! Must block shot...Meyers like rebound..."

"There has been mutual interest between the Mavs and guard Mo Williams throughout the free-agency period. However, Williams has offers for more than the $2.7 million salary the Mavs can offer, sources said. A source also told ESPNDallas.com recently that Williams wasn’t the Mavs’ top target for their $2.7 million exception, declining to elaborate on the player who is a higher priority. (Jameer Nelson?) Where is Mo going to go?

There were a few on here certain he'd be getting mle or even more. Hmmm

How did that opting out thing work out for you, Mo?

I always thought he would get 3 years and 10M. With the crazy money that was thrown around one would think he could get that. It will be interesting to see what he and Marion end up signing for.

If we get to choose between them, I think I choose Marion. Although he's supposed to be sort of the opposite of Mo as a lockerroom guy.

At this point, maybe we could get him for a 2 year deal at the veteran minimum, lol.

The article Pinwheel quoted says he has offers for more than the 2.7m salary the Mavs can offer. So sounds like he'll eventually get more than than he would if he'd opted to stay, certainly more than the vet minimum. His first choice is the Mavericks so he might have been holding out in hopes they'd offer him the 2.7m.

The Blazers can give him more than 2.7m (3.1 mil or something). I hope they don't.

I would rather bring another PG that would be fine with even not playing at all or being on the IR. I think we can add maybe a young player without Mo's ego who wouldn't demand minutes.
If we do decent scouting this player would not nessecarily be less talented than Mo.
Joe Jackson who played for Memphis university and Memphis' summer league time is a personal favorite of mine. Also someone like Jeremy Pargo from CSKA or another player from Europe or how about another player I really like - Armon Johnson? Or maybe Coby Carl?
There are options if we get creative.

Mo's agent was the one saying we've got offer greater than $2.7M. Hooooey!!

He won't be coming back here either. Blake took his #25 jersey and Blazers let him!! Read between the lines.
