Well after the fact, I came to like it since I did start posting on the subject, but that's not how it started. Until the death of a niece after lots of prayer, even though I didn't really believe before that, I never talked to anyone about the subject of atheism. Up until recently, one to two years, I called myself agnostic, not an atheist. Even now, you guys act like I'm all anti religion, but after people complained about so many threads being started on the subject, I stopped starting those threads.

I enjoy discussing the topic, sometimes I make snarky comments, but they really have not been made to hurt people. I thought of this place as a place to discuss issues with people who are very different from me.

dude..I am sorry for the loss of your niece. I dont have the tools to offer any more than a heart felt prayer to ease your anger towards God. Loss sucks..and it never gets easy. What is worse is the older you get, the more you experience this. If I am to be truthfull, I dont care what you call your self, I know that you still have your faith. I have seen you defend it. Trying to say its a national thing..well..whatever.. it is a faith based concept. My opinion is that religion as a rule sucks, but the word of God is the constant. I only hope that you will some how realize that our wishes about who lives or dies, are of no account. We as humans cannot know Gods will other than what he reveals to us. We have one advantage in this..the word of God. Tonight I will say a prayer for you to recieve peace, and I am sorry for picking on you. peace.

Weren't you the one who was going to talk to your nephew about atheism, when he grew up in a religious household? Or, do I have you confused with somebody else? Why do you care what anybody but you believes? I'd say the same thing to a relative of mine who was trying to convince my kids that there is a god.

I'm sorry for your loss, but we all lose people very close to us, and when it's someone younger than you, it's never easy. The young man senselessly beaten in the original post was somebody's son, and somebody's nephew, too, yet your first post in this thread was classless and disgusting.

Close, but the opposite. My nephew ha grown up in a household devoid of any religion even though they called themselves Jewish. Then, when it came time for his Bar Mitzvah he declined having decided he was an Atheist. I spoke with him about learning and valuing his heritage regardless of his religious belief or disbelief.

Yet you spend a shitload of time on both of them. Pretending it isn't serious to you is denial to some degree. It is fruitless, I do agree with it. My favorite threads are during a game when the Blazers are rolling, the game is fun to watch, and things seems great. Then Def Leppard will fumble a ball, or LMA will miss an 18' shot, and it becomes 'my player is better than your player'. Give me credit. I stopped that shit the last half-season of Dre' Miller being in Portland. I could see his limits, but after a quarter season pointing them out, it wasn't fun, so I decided to accentuate the positives that he did bring. Since then, I don't trash players on the roster, and will try to figure out how their positives can help the team up until the day they are released or waived.

Nobody is defending these attackers. White, black or anything, what they did was reprehensible. However, scouring the news so you can post every black on white violent crime is tedious. There are over 300,000,000 people in this nation. Bad shit is going to happen.

The reason why some of the white on black violence makes such big headlines and draws the attention of Jackson, Sharpton and the media is because there has been a very long and violent history of whites owning, belittling, hurting... Blacks, and it has become a focus of America to eradicate this de facto racism. It's not just some fly by night whim that America is more focused on racism one direction than the other.

Yes, we all know some "reverse racism" exists, and there are some instances when it comes into play, but it isn't a major focus of America because historically it has not been near the level of white against black racism because of which group has the power.

Where are the people defending what these thugs did? Nobody. They were terrible, are being arrested as they should, they will go to trial as they should, they will be convicted a they should, and all the while all of us, white, black, brown will be happy to see the jailhouse gate lock tight.
