Mock Draft: Blazers select Lucas Nogueira (C)

He's a long-term project. Height/Length-wise he's LaMarcus Aldridge but he needs to put on a good 30 lbs. Though I'm not sure he can put on too much weight - he has very narrow shoulders.

hes gonna be bebe, like nene used to be maybner hilario

i like it, could do worse, i like the idea of swinging for the fences from here on out

We aren't going to get a sure talent, might as well go for the big with potential.

For the first time ever, I am rooting for the Blazers to trade out of the draft.

A rookie GM bobbing for gold nuggets in a septic tank? This can't end well.

When did Chris Johnson's brother enter the draft?

Yay projects from foreign countries.

Most of these mocks have us taking a project from a foreign country.....Maybe we had a pattern?

DX has Reggie Jackson going at the next spot--I'd rather the athletic point guard than the foreign stick figure.

LOL. I feel the same way, but suspect we're probably going to end up with two or three rookies, what with the way Allen seems to love to buy draft picks.

Maybe, but Jackson can't shoot and is a 6'3" tweener. He'll never be an elite NBA PG, IMO, and I'm not sure about him as a back-up as a pure PG. Plus, he was born in Italy, so he's foreign as well. :)

He does have incredibly long arms, though.

42% from 3 (on 5 3pa/g) = can't shoot? 4.5 apg & 1.99 A/TO ratio = tweener?

I'm not sure why "he'll never be an elite NBA PG" is an argument against drafting someone at 21--how many future "elite" players drop that far? I'd be happy if he ends up being an average starter at PG, which I fully believe he has the tools to be.

i wanted us to pick ibaka :( and i wanted beabois as well, i was shocked okc didnt keep him.

Yeah, I see him as a Tweener. Bayless averaged 5apg at Arizona. If Jackson weren't seen as a tweener, he'd be a certain lottery pick, given his measurables.

He's never even seen him play.

Bayless averaged 4 assists, and 3 turnovers, not like Jackson at all. That's a terrible comparison, really; very lazy.

Sure I have. He's not a true PG, which is why he isn't a projected lottery pick. His NBA position is uncertain.

Also, weren't you raving about Demetri McCamey last year? I can't find him in any first-round mock, although NBAdraft.net has him going to Portland at #51, which is impossible.

Nogueira is basically a clone of Tyson Chandler when he came out of HS.

Oh really? How many apg did Jackson average as a freshman? Dude is a tweener. If you can't accept that opinion on him, which isn't just mine, then no big deal to me.

Compare Bayless' freshman season with Jackson's junior season. I'd say compare any Jackson season to Bayless' one year at Arizona, but Jackson couldn't shoot the ball his first two years (<30% from 3pt).

Red flags. Hell, NBAdraft.net has him in the 2nd round at this point.

So, I googled draft "reggie jackson" -"bleacher report" to find news articles with some analysis of Jackson's game/draft stock. These are the first three results I found:

Like current Knicks point guard Toney Douglas, Jackson has an enormous wingspan (reportedly seven feet), which obviously is a tremendous defensive advantage in the NBA. But unlike Douglas, Jackson is a traditional point guard who quarterbacks an offense.

Reggie Jackson from Boston College. A big, athletic point guard who shot 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from 3? Why isn't he a top-five prospect? I'm convinced that had he played at a more well-known basketball school than BC he'd be considered a lock for the lottery.

Reggie Jackson, 6-3, 208, Jr., Boston College. Big point guard, wasn't projected this high but after Deron Williams, Devin Harris was a big comedown. Fans dying for Jimmer Fredette but even if Jazz wants a point, it wants an NBA type rather than a chunky shooter.

Could you point me toward some analysis of him (other than yours) that indicates that he's not a true point guard?

EDIT: OH, I just read NBAdraft.net--almost your words verbatim. Interesting... Of course, that write-up is also over 16months old, so I don't really put any value in it.

Analysis of the top-10 results:
  • one Boston Herald blog post that was reposted four separate times;
  • the aforementioned obsolete NBAdraft.net writeup;
  • a draftexpress writeup that never mentions the word "tweener" and calls him a point guard (not a PG/SG as they do with "tweeners");
  • three compilation articles that apply that word to other prospects, but not to Jackson;
  • and a Bleacher Report (worthless).
Not very compelling evidence for your case, and once again, very lazy. Care to try again?

I think he is a tweener. That's my "case", so to speak. It's otherwise known as an opinion. Time will tell what Jackson becomes; getting all pissy about labels at this point seems boring to me.

One could also do searches on "combo guard", or "comination guard", or even "PG/SG" for Reggie Jackson to find more examples, but I don't want to accuse anyone of being "lazy".
