Moda is withdrawing from the Oregon insurance market

As a lucky policy holder with MODA, I would just like to say:

FUCK OBAMACARE AND ANYBODY WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!

I normally don't get into debates like this, but I have to say something:

Without the healthcare, I would be screwed right now health wise. It saved my life. So I take offense to this.

I think Denny should put up the naming rights $ and we could call it the S2 Forum Center.
If you don't like that, it could be the Sly Poker Dog Pound, or the Homer Loves Kool Aiditorium.
I'm flexible.

The only reason OCA was good was that it disallowed health care companies from denying coverage to people, because they hit maximums or whatever else.

So if you were in that bucket then yes (i am assuming..), I could see you approving for OCA (albeit he should have just fixed the current healthcare scams, including the ability to deny people). IMO the OCA's PROs do not outweigh the CONs. And we will all SOON reap the benefits of paying out our asses for health care coverage, because the employers are going to say 'fuck you, no more, you have to help pay for this'.

Edit: Strenuus, not trying to offend, btw, just kinda bs'n an issue I see.

Uncle Cliffy could put up the $ for the naming rights and call it "Weed Toke Center". Perhaps, Damon Stoudamire & Rasheed Wallace would be willing to chip in as well....

Has to have "Rose Garden" in the name somewhere. Sorry. That's just the way it is.

Or worse. The employer could OFFER a plan that qualifies under ACA as meeting the requirements (one actual example I saw last year was the "MVP" plan - Minimum Value Plan - Literally that was plan name) but is actually quite expensive. Employees then lose the right to subsidies (because the employer offers a plan) but it is cheaper to go out and buy an individual plan (at least now).

In such a case, the company is off-the-hook (i.e., no penalties for them) and either the employee gets a bad deal or is forced into the individual market.

Yes, single-payer has drawbacks as does what we had before ACA but ACA seems to be a marriage that professes the advantages of a single-payer system but without the financial advantages (essentially no premiums for most care) and disadvantages (we'd all have to pay for it via taxes).

Gramps...

I need health care insurance too, and my anger is directed at the people in congress and the oval office who pushed this through without taking the time to make something that would actually work. I didn't intend to offend those who are simply following the law in order to get insurance. That said, Obama, Pelosi, Reid and company are responsible for this mucked up mess. I have no doubt that the road to health care hell was paved with good intentions, but that doesn't keep us from being burned by the flames. Maybe next time they should read the bill to know what's in it before they pass it.

And there it is. The classic "let's do something so the other party can't say we're doing nothing" political move. This bill is going to haunt us, and I fear it's going to take a major overhaul like Euro/Canada-style socialized medicine to avoid disaster.

It was a foot in the door. It will likely be amended, rather than scrapped.

Cool. I'm done talking about it. It saved my life.

Good riddance Moda needs to withdraw its name from the Rose Garden Marqee as well...alas it probably won't revert back to the Rose Garden as it should..is likely another corporation will buy the naming rights....

Cricket Arena
Metro PC Dome
Coca Cola Center
George Foreman Grill Garden

So would my father. I'm a fan even if it's a flawed system that doesn't go far enough towards civilized healthcare.

Everything is a flawed system. Pros and cons to everything. No use in bitching about it, I say. (not directed at you.)

I've often wished they'd rename The Staples Center "Summer's Eve Douche Garden" but now that Kome is retiring it's just slightly less appropriate.

Well I guess staples must have beat out office depot for the bid

Also, I do have to admit and agree it could be a lot worse than "MODA Center".

The ACA was heavily modeled after RomneyCare, written by Republican Governor Mitt Romney of Massechusettes. RomneyCare passed in 2006.

True to a degree, but that doesn't change that it was written by the Democrats, passed both houses without a single Republican vote, and signed into law by a Democratic president.

I'm glad that Streuous and many others have benefited from the law. However, because it wasn't well thought out and because of the poorly planned way it was implemented, it's going to collapse and hurt about 10% of the US population when it crashes.

Maybe you are right about that (I don't have a crystal ball...) but I rather doubt it. Collapse is not a typical failure mode of government programs.

Disaster was coming w/o Obamacare, too. Healthcare costs were rising very rapidly, and were projected to keep on rising very rapidly.

I think you are right. Actually fixing the problem will require single payer or some other major change. Obamacare was a good first step, but it certainly can't solve all the problems.

Most government programs are better thought out than Obamacare. This albatross is going to crash and it's going to be ugly. I just hope I make it to Medicare before it goes thud.

it was written by the Democrats, passed both houses without a single Republican vote, and signed into law by a Democratic president.

Of course, the requirement that people purchase health insurance also passed the Supreme Court.

I can just imagine the outcry if somebody like Cruz were to win the Presidency and the Republicans passed a bill requiring all Americans to purchase a gun in the name of national defense/civil defense. It gets passed in both houses without a single democrat voting for it and signed into law by a Republican president.

Imagine the outcry among democrats if such were to happen. Republicans could just reply "We were following your example". I fear what could happen in the future with Executive Actions as future presidents follow the example of Obama in executing far-reaching executive actions.

Unfortunately, I don't envision the political landscape getting any better anytime soon. The leading candidates for both parties are too partisan for the other side to take.
