Moe Harkless to Portland for 2nd rounder

This trade is just another ho-hum move in an offseason full of ho-hum moves. Nothing to get excited about, or hate, but for the price, guess the trade is OK.

The real problem is, we only have one playoff caliber starter, two lottery team caliber starters, a few nice bench players that would have been nice to have 2 seasons ago, and a bunch of blue sky. We need another playoff caliber starter, not more bench players and blue sky.

I take it you're not aboard the tank train yet. Trust me, when you accept our incipient awfulness, a strange calmness comes over you.

We still need one more skill player - looks like Harkless's handle is a weakness. But I like this! (However, this probably means the death of the KJ McDaniels dream that some have been dreaming.)
That's fine. KJ maybe too overpriced anyway

Not to complain to much about such a minor deal, but this is the only Olshay move this summer I really don't like.
"I loved it when he was tearing apart a contending team, but not when he started building it up again"

We got a former lottery pick for a 2nd round pick? In our current situation, I just don't see how it's not a win-win for the Blazers.

It's also true that Jacque Vaughn was a very poor coach.

Some guys like Harris, Payton and Nicola V have developed well under Vaughn. Those guys are the competitors on the team. I'd be less skeptical if he was buried on the Spurs or Cavs bench, but if you can't break out on the Magic roster, I don't have a ton of faith in your future development.

A good catch for a 2nd rounder, but another non-legit Small Forward (first one is Aminu).

He's got a bad motor according to fans on the Magic boards. Harris ate his lunch when he slid to the SF spot and Mo didn't respond. He sounds like the talent level of Crabbe with the inconsistent play of Batum. The worst of both worlds.

It's what the coaching staff thought. I think Stotts does a great job of getting players to buy in because he is a players coach. Harkless will be fine. I think, like T-Mac, people expected so much because of his talent, but he looks effortless so it appears he isn't going as hard as he should. He's probably a 15 PER guy in 2 years.

Fair enough. Do you have a lot of faith that our future second rounder was going to be better?

I have known many Mo's in my time, but never a Moe. I don't like him until he proves to me what a Moe is.

The eras of Blazer basketball have passed by like pillars of greatness...the Roy Era...the Aldridge Era...the Three Stooges Era...

It's basically a gamble by Olshey that Harkless being benched by Orlando and then being traded for peanuts will be the wake up call he needs to put forth consistent effort in games and especially in practice and offseason. And reports are that he's already been responding. The 22 year old is super gifted naturally, and for the price of a 2nd we can see if he exerts himself. If he does, there is no way he isn't a good player. He he doesn't, he's out of the league. It's a cheap gamble low risk, high reward.

Good. Gives Dame another younger guy to light a fire under

I'm usually Mr Positivity, but I'm not particularly impressed by that highlight reel. He feels like a tweener to me. Looks kinda clunky for a 3, and I don't particularly like his shooting form either. Good value for a second round pick, but I'm not high on his potential.

So based on what I am reading in this thread is no one has really seen him play that much . Everyone seems to be making their conclusion based on stats. And since stats for young players tend to be less than helpful, I guess we will have to wait and see.

He's a poor man's 3 and D player. His ceiling is an acceptable 3 and D player. They bought low, but Harkless isn't ever going to be more than a backup.

I've seen him play a ton via tape. For a Blazer reference he is somewhat like Augman right now Not as elite defensively, but better form on his jumper

He's a poor rebounder for his size

Idk. It was for basically nothing, but I'm not expecting a whole lot.

low opportunity cost for a guy with some intrigue. Cool.

This is my take as well. We are in a position where we can take some chances on a bunch of young players and hope that 1 or 2 evolve into a very good player.
