Montrezl Harrell, I mean. He’s so important to the Clippers but apparently he’s available on the trade market since they can’t afford to re-sign him this coming summer.

Who would you give up for him? He is a near All Star level PF/C and his contract is only $6 million.

They would be crazy to trade him. My guess is they would want an ending contract and a lottery pick.

Right so they would want one back in return to match salaries plus a #1 pick. Unless someone had room under the cap and they just gave up a #1.
Otherwise why trade him?
Trade him to bring in a player who is NOT on an ending contract so that they get an actual player instead of losing Harrell for nothing. If they're trading for an expiring contract, why trade him at all? He IS an expiring contract. Or is that what you're saying?

I think Harrell would be the biggest god send for the future. We definitely need a guy like that, however what’s the price? I think the highest we could go is Skal, Trent, Nas, and a pick.

I wouldn't trade him at all if I was them and I doubt they will. But if they do because of future salary like the link suggests, then they at least need to get a high draft pick out of it. You are not going to get equal value for his 6 million. But this is all moot. They have a very rich owner. He is not going to worry about salary when they could win a championship this year.

yep they have to pay the Bill's and would need a first back. I enjoy his game a lot but so does everyone else in the league.

So Clippers cannot afford his extension but we can? He will make way more than Nurk this summer. I think around 17-20(Atlanta can go even higher).
And personally i would give up any player not named Dame,CJ and Nurk for him.

The Clippers are trying to win a championship this season. They're not going to trade Harrell for crappy expirings and a pick. That makes their team worse this year. It's more likely they'd just let him walk after making a run this summer. The Clippers went all-in this season when they traded for PG13 so they're not going to make any moves that could jeopardize the short title window they could end up with.

The only way they'd trade Harrell is if it was with another player like Harkless to get a better player for this year.

They gave up 6 picks for Kawhi and George. If they're trading away any core pieces, you can be sure they want to restock their future picks in return.

8th in the West right now. Who do you see passing us up?
They could pass OKC. There's so many games left though... It's not unrealistic for them to get back in the mix for 3-8. It's also not unrealistic for them to be a lottery team.

This is a pretty underrated take. They will want to restock because no ring is a guarantee in the West.

I don't believe he's available.

LAC are a title contender with him. They will figure out contracts and changes in the summer.
Clippers have shown they have no loyalty when it comes to trades. They signed Blake Griffin to a huge contract and said he'd be the greatest Clipper of all time and then shipped him out for Tobias Harris. Then they built up Harris as a potential All Star and traded HIM even though they were playing well.

Sure. None of that means they would look to trade Harrell now. The Clippers are keeping their team together because they are a contender right now. Not because they are loyal.

They will do a trade if it helped them win a title this season.

It actually means the exact opposite, in my opinion. They traded all those picks to win a title. Trading their best big to replenish picks would be idiotic if a championship was still the goal (it is).

Yeah, I dont think they trade Harrell for draft picks. The goal for them is to win a championship this year, not stock up on future assets.

You missed the "if." You listed the reason why they're probably not trading Harrell. I said if they trade him, it's going to be to replenish picks. They had to give up the picks to get the two players they coveted. They don't have to win it this year to make that gamble worthwhile, they just need to be close enough to convince them to stay while pieces are added around them.

This still doesn't make sense. Trading Harrell to replenish picks would literally cost them a chance at a title this year. Why sacrifice a legit chance to maybe do something in future years?

Can you conceive of a circumstance in which the Clippers trade Harrell and still expect to compete for a title?

Yes, I already mentioned that in this thread. They'd have to either trade him for a better player or at worse a comparable player that they wouldn't lose this off season.

Maybe something like Harkless and Harrell for Myles Turner but even that isn't really an upgrade. That's why I think they'll just take their chances. Plus Steve Ballmer doesn't seem like he would care about paying the tax if they're contending.
