Was watching the news the other day and there was a story about some idiotic doctors performing a uterus transplant on some idiotic woman.

My wife couldn't answer my question as to why this stupid woman thought having a baby was so important she would risk her life to do it.

I guess whatever we want is worth doing any stupid thing to achieve.

Is it sad that the first thing I thought is, "I wonder how much her insurance company had to pay for that?"

Yet today they announced a break thru in kidney transplants where any kidney from any donor can be transplanted into a patient regardless of blood type . This is huge!

While you may not agree with or understand medical research it's still important.

So many kids in need of adoption and we still indulge in such selfish behavior.....the woman has the right to her feelings but it is still sad that apparently only her own blood child would have value to her....

She and her husband have 3 adopted boys.

What breakthrough? They've always been able to transplant any kidney from any donor can be transplanted into a patient regardless of blood type.

A "revolutionary" new treatment could allow kidney transplants from any donor

The search to find a compatible kidney donor is often a long and agonising one - a complex series of biological matches need to be met to reduce the risk of the new organ being rejected, which means most kidney transplants have to come from blood relatives. Now a pioneering new technique is being tested that could allow those needing a transplant to receive a kidney from any donor.

Kidney donors must have a compatible blood type with the recipient. In living donation, the following blood types are compatible:

  • Donors with blood type A... can donate to recipients with blood types A and AB
  • Donors with blood type B... can donate to recipients with blood types B and AB
  • Donors with blood type AB... can donate to recipients with blood type AB only
  • Donors with blood type O... can donate to recipients with blood types A, B, AB and O (O is the universal donor: donors with O blood are compatible with any other blood type)
So,

  • Recipients with blood type O... can receive a kidney from blood type O only
  • Recipients with blood type A... can receive a kidney from blood types A and O
  • Recipients with blood type B... can receive a kidney from blood types B and O
  • Recipients with blood type AB... can receive a kidney from blood types A, B, AB and O (AB is the universal recipient: recipients with AB blood are compatible with any other blood type)
