Most overrated team entering the playoffs

Based on national and local perception, which team do you think is the most overrated?


For me I think it's Denver. That is a team that grossly overachieved after the Melo trade by playing all there guys off the bench, catching tired teams, and being taken lightly by opponents. In the playoffs that won't be the case and I think they lose in 4 or 5 games.

I can't comment on the East, but at this point I would probably say the Celtics if I had to pick an East team. In the West, I think it's the Thunder, so that's what I put down. I think Westbrook gets figured out in a seven game series, leaving them only Durant to produce points. Defense gets a lot chippier and their athleticism gets negated somewhat.

Just the fact that the Pacers are even in the playoff picture is a farce. I had to go with them. Our eight seed would be a five in the east.

In the west, overrated, I just dint know. Denver and the Blazers share the same record in conference so that may be the guys I would have to go with. Good team, more so after the trade in my opinion, but dint thing they will make any noise in the playoffs. We on the other hand became a far better team after the trade, and are just now hitting our stride. We could be the darlings of the ball this year.

I picked Chicago since most people pick them to win the east and they have only won one playoff series since Jordan left.

That's actually probably the closest to my view, too. I actually don't consider any team to be particularly overrated. I thought Chicago was overrated earlier in the season, but have changed my mind. I think Rose is slightly overrated, due to the visual marvel of his game, but I think that team is legitimately in the argument for best team in the NBA.

So, if any team is overrated, it may be Portland. I don't think they're a dark horse contender. They're a dangerous team, but so are Memphis and Denver. Even the Hornets could jump up and upset a team if Chris Paul goes god-mode.

I was just going to post a similar sentiment. I don't think we're the most overrated, but I do think we are being overrated somewhat. We need a lot of things to break right for us to advance past the first round. Rudy breaking out of his shooting slump would really help, but who knows how long that will last? Until then, teams are going to sag on us and make us beat them from outside.

I have to disagree with a few of you in here. I think we may in fact be underrated, Look at how well we have played the past 20 games with Wallace. If we had had this team as it is for the entire season, where would we be? What would our record be?

I think we are better now than our overall record this season by a lot.

I think we are better now than our overall record this season by a lot.

I think we've demonstrated we can play winning regular season basketball, but I have questions about us playing winning playoff basketball. In the post-season it's all about matchups. Only Gasol can matchup with LA in the West one on one. The problem is that we haven't been able to make teams pay for doubling him. Teams are going to sag on us, try to negate LA and let us try to beat them from outside. Until we get consistent three point shooting from Wes and Rudy, we're in trouble.

I completely agree, and this coming from a Chicago fan. Because I know what the standard (even statistics) for a true MVP is, I have a hard time making Rose the runaway winner like some of the Chicago fans (as well as the media) have him pinned. However, with the recent turn of events (and Howard's 2 suspensions), I have a hard time giving Dwight the MVP when he's 10 games behind Rose and company.

With that said, I go Blazers. I like Oden, but you guys will need him there (and Bynum out) to go toe-to-toe with the Lakers, assuming you face them. Without him, I still say the Lakers beat you in 5-6, with or without Bynum.

maxie, I think with Wallace we will be able to get that. He can hit when open, and otherwise draws a lot of attention. As far as Wes and Rudy, or for that matter even Roy, one of the three will be on. LMA, Nic and Wallace can all hit the three as well.


I really think if we can get a good start and carry some confidence, we have a chance to do some damage.

I think the Knicks are extremely overrated. So many people are saying that they are the team most likely to pull an upset in the first round. Boston, while struggling right now, have the ability to turn it on come playoff time. The Knicks have Amare, Melo, and then a bunch of OK role players. Even Fields has declined since the Melo trade. Lastly, Boston, even when struggling, will be able to score easily on the Knicks horrid defense. Rondo may be able to get that confidence he needs from being able to get inside the paint at will.

I think its a toss up between four teams. Denver/Blazers/Knicks/Thunder. I say its a toss up because depending on what website you go to or what analyst you hear from one of those teams is always picked as the one who is going to make a lot of noise in the playoffs. An upset victory is really hard regardless of what team you play and unlike the regular season none of those four teams have shown any ability to advance in the playoffs (I add Denver to that list because they have lost their two go to guys in this new trade and are basically a new team) and teams will be ready for all of them.
The fun thing about adding Denver and the Thunder to that list, one of them has to advance (unless something weird happens tonight and OKC gets the third seed) but I think they will be swept in the second round by the Spurs.

Thunder, with Portland a close second. I think the Thunder will win their 1st round, but not as convincingly as some think. I don't think Portland will win the 1st round and will play rather underwhelming.
