Just caught a little interview and there's just something that makes me want to root for this kid. He's fun to watch and seems like a good player. I doubt he will be a star, but I also doubt he will flame out.

Why do people care about this kid?

Because were NBA fans. He's one of (if not the best) the best rookies. You got the concept of this board a little confused. Its NBA hoops first, politics second.

Correction. It's trolling first, NBA hoops second.

You're cute, Zags. You know, you sell being obtuse so well, I'm almost inclined to believe it.

Trolling?

I was trolled by almost the entire board when I started this thread.

Tempted to give Zags his props on this one. Its slowly looking like I'll be wrong - but not wrong enough that we should've traded Aldridge for him. I did, however, alter my "he is worthless" prediction eventually, at some point in this thread.

Leonard averaged 10/8/1.5 bpg in the Vegas summer league last year, and didn't get 6 fpg like Olynyk did as the primary scoring option for Boston this summer.

Lol at the fouls

Oh, I still think he is pathetic defensively and will probably have significant issues with some of the other starting PFs in this league. But I may have been overly critical.

Held Jones 3-12 shooting, Plumlee didn't do great against him and he outplayed Andrew Nicholson twice.

Jones also shot 14 FT's and Olynyk had 7 fouls. Not a coincidence.

And none of those compare to:

David West
Carlos Boozer
KG
Amare/Carmelo
Lebron/Bosh

This summer Kelly Olynyk proved that he has everything in his toolbox on offense and was named to the all-tournament first team. The power forward out of Gonzaga averaged 18 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game, with a 57.8 shooting percentage from the floor. With a perimeter jumper, an advanced low-post game, elite instincts, great passing ability, and a high motor, Kelly Olynyk has given Boston Celtics fans a reason to have great expectations for him this upcoming season.

Are the C's planning on starting him at the 4?

Typical liberal mindset...always someone else's fault. Go cry to your union.

If only 40% of Congress could prevent the Celtic head coach from appointing Olynyk to a starting job...

Ha... so he picked Dirk's #41... cool shit.

Are the C's planning on starting him at the 4?

You mean the 5? It looks Olynyk might be the only player they have capable of starting at the 5 spot. Sullinger, Humphries, and Bass have all logged time at the 5, but I really wouldn't feel comfortable with any of them as my starting 5, would you?

I can see any of those three guys sliding into reserve 5 roles, like last year when Bass and Sullinger interchanged as 4's and 5's in different offensive sets, but starting?

I wonder how good this Vitor Faverani guy from Valencia BC can be, because Fab Melo's looking useless, and and outside of Faverani, Olynyk's really the only guy with starting 5 size.

You know, I was just thinking about that a little deeper, and well, I can easily see Boston starting Humphries, Sullinger, or Bass at the 5, but if you're talking about minute allocation at the 5 spot, I think Kelly Olynyk should get the bulk.

Humphries, Sullinger, and Bass are all prototypical, back-to-the-basket 4's, which could really compliment Olynyk's ability to stretch the paint. The only wild-card when it comes to Olynyk's minutes is the acquisition of Faverani. I don't know anything about his game, but looking at his statistics on Eurobasket, it looks like he likes to shoot. His 3pt FG% is low, but he takes a good deal of them for his size, and his FT% from ACB play is on par with the best big men in the game, which makes me believe that he's probably an efficient mid-range shooter. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the Celtics were trying to develop a high-low post game with Olynyk and Faverani playing alongside their undersized PF trio.

I agree that Olynyk is the natural choice for the 5 spot. I have a feeling Sullinger will see a lot of minutes there. I don't think it really matters though as they're in tank mode anyway. I don't know much about the Faverani guy.

This is how Oly dresses for gatherings.
