I haven't finished reading this yet (at work right now) but my first impressions are:

1) Hansen is quite well spoken and seems very intelligent, endearing, has a good sense of humor and humility...and he really cares!

2) nice to hear directly how to pronounce his name, interesting that Yang is pronounced "young" and not "yong" or "yang"

3) I feel even more that his off-court demeanor and sensibilities, communication is really a sign that this guy will go FAR

4) extreme dream: I wish I could take him to Thien Hong's for some delicious dishes and get his opinion on the food and have my oldest brother (who showed me Thien Hong's many years ago) there to talk with him. He speaks Mandarin quite well having lived in Taiwan for a couple years.

Can't wait to see him whippin' dimes to Shae and the whole crew!

Let's go!!!!

Wait did you say thein Hong is on 82nd and sandy? Cause the one I go to is on 82nd and Powell and they have THE best Pad thai!! I drive out of my way for it now, but use to live on 82nd and division and went there a ton. Their pad thai is the best in town and its not close, given ive had almost every pad thai in town lol

There is a thai resturant in downtown milwaukie we eat at regularly. Incredible food. Having coconut shrimp aNd eggrolls today for lunch.

Haven't read it yet but I expect it's one of the best letter ever written.

Curious when Young makes his first allstar team. Probably won't be this season but perhaps theres a chance.

Great letter from Hansen. Thanks @Domihatin this was well worth the thread.

Hansen seems like such a good guy. He feels lucky to be here and we should feel lucky to have him. His thoughts about being a Trail Blazer made me think that there's no more inspirational team name in the NBA. Again we're lucky to have someone who is fun loving and still has such humility and a desire to get better.

Yeah, thanks! I look forward to reading it all the way through after work.

Sarcasm? Or is my sardar broken?

I just finished reading this (actually pressed the read aloud feature on Google to have it read to me while I used an electric shaver on my face in my backyard while enjoying a Bartlett pear from my tree and watching a squirrel sneak past me).

Wow, what a heartfelt and sincere message to everyone! What a treat to be treated to such a personal story and thoughts and as I gleaned from the first few sentences I had the chance to read earlier, Hansen is very well spoken, thoughtful and bright and has a great way of telling us about his journey and expressing his feelings and thoughts. There's a lot of honesty and openness there. He's not trying to act tough, aloof or full of himself. He's sharing a lot of personal and vulnerable things. And he's right; all the new things he's doing, off the court, especially learning the language, not to mention the culture shock and adjustments. Quite a lot to take on. He's doing so well. And what a kind soul. I liked how he put on aggression and trash talking, though.

It's going to be magical to watch him shine brilliantly this year!

I wonder what restaurants he lives near? Most players live in West Linn and Lake Orgasm (auto-correct, but I'm leaving it! Haha!), but there aren't tons of Chinese restaurants there within walking distance ....but I wonder if recently drafted rookies live in a nice hotel or someplace in Portland proper until they get a home?

Remember Shaedon's video where he showed us his house? I am trying to remember that it looked like from the outside and what neighborhood it was in. Probably Lake O.

Honest question…..other than the fact you are obviously a die hard Blazers fan….what would make you think he will be an AllStar one day? You really think this?

Why would you think he wouldn't make an allstar team?

He probably won't make it this season. I'm just not sure if it will be 2027 or 2028 when he makes his first.

So I guess the Blazers social media account in China has blown up. They are hiring a person to handle that account and that account only because it’s gotten so big. Pretty cool.
The Blazers should probably start the process to hire the 2nd China social media person. I'd think they can wait until November to hire the 3rd.

He showed me nothing to make me think he is at an All-Star level. Couple of nice dimes and court vision, but that doesn’t make you an allstar. Why would you think that he WOULD make an allstar team?

I’ll go a step further and say he might not even play much this season at all to be honest. CB doesn’t like to play guys who don’t play defense, we’ve seen this. He was destroyed on that end in Vegas by guys that won’t even be in the league this season.
It’s fine to be excited about his future, but just keep it realistic. Just like the 55 win prediction on here every season.

@THE HCP,

Whoa, you're very negative and slinging falsehoods. Funny how many people in the industry saw what you didn't see. Hansen obviously has skills and ability beyond a typical rookie. He was fantastic and stunning in Vegas and his play in the tough CBA shows he's got many abilities many players never have in their bag.

Based on what he wrote, and I have no reason to doubt him since he's here, Hansen has a history of playing up to and then exceeding the level of competition he plays with and against. Being matched up against Clingan and RWIII will make him a much better defender.

400 million Chinese NBA fans voting?

STOMP

I hope every Chinese NBA fan votes for him, because it'll show how much they need to change the process.
