My favorite songwriter is Richard Thompson. He's the father of English folk rock and one of the greatest guitarists in history. I'd recommend the albums, Pour Down Like Silver, Shoot Out The Lights and Front Parlor Ballads. His songs are funny, dark and seldom end happily.I only know the Nirvana song. Will listen to others in a bit.
My other nominees would be something like
Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynryd
Hotel California by The Eagles
Plush by Stone Temple Pilots
Big River by Johnny Cash
Use Me by Bill Withers
I'm sure there are more I am missing.
I will check it out. Even with Slacker when I find something I like I hadn't heard of, related artists bring me back to stuff I know. Which reminds me of a better song than any I mentioned, just haven't heard a decent sound quality version. Steppenwolf, It's Never Too Late.My favorite songwriter is Richard Thompson.
