Have you ever seen a coach ignore a center like Oden before? Greg will never develop under Nate. Oden having zero shot attempts in the first half is a joke! Greg trying to guard kevin durant, another joke! It's the same thing every game folks. Its like he has greg playing guard out there, it's laughable. Have you ever seen a center standing at the 3 point line on offense making passes more then oden? What the hell is crap? I have never seen a player put in a postion to fail more then oden in my life. Nate is blowing it big time.

I agree with one of the statements you make for sure. Oden is being set up to fail. The way he is being utilitized, or rather, not be utilitized, gives him no chance to succeed. None.

Or maybe he's actually not ready to be the main guy?

Seriously, a lot of his points aren't points he creates on his own.

That's false, Oden creates more of his own baskets than any of our other big men, actually more than everyone but Bayless/Sergio/Roy.

What chances at scoring are you even talking about, he never gets the ball?

He is 21. You think he was supposed to come in and be Wilt Chamberlin? Nates fine. Your post is a joke. You criticize a coach that has far more basketball knowledge than you without once saying how he should be using Oden. You are just sour grapes.

Yep, Greg Oden if you get him the ball is an above 50% chance you will get a score. you should ride that horse every time.

yup oden and aldridge dont take enough shots whats wrong with going to the big me? this isnt a guards league....

....

NATE IS NOT HELPING HIM BY BENCHING HIM FOR 3/4 OF THE GAME.

Why can't people see this? Nate is playing other lineups because he wants to win more games in the regular season, but that's going to turn around and bite him in the long run when Oden isn't developed. You want a coach who can develop younger players rather than winning a few more games in the regular season.

I'm pretty positive this isn't close to true. Dude is shooting over 50% mainly on put backs and dump downs when a guard collapses the D. When he gets the ball on the low block and needs to do a post move he doesn't hit at nearly the same rate.

This seemed the consensus opinion of how it would go for him prior to the season starting. His offense was spoken of as gravy to the rebounding and inside presence. Dude's got some work to do on his game and plenty of years to do it.

You want to know how Nate should use Oden? I believe the best example was in the second quarter of the game in Chicago. During an eight minute stretch Oden touched the ball on every possession and he dominated the game. That's it in a nutshell. In a league of match ups, when you have a player like Oden who almost no one can match up with, you exploit that advantage. If you don't, then you fail.

Nate has failed.

WRONG. He hasn't been given enough opportunity for you to say he can't hit at fifty percent... When he has been given the ball he has delivered.

And then the followed up the Chicago game by once again denying him the fucking ball. Unfuckingbeliveable.

One thing I've learned from many posters here is that concerning Oden, it is everybody else's fault except for Greg's.

Nate posts up Oden as if he can score like Ewing in his prime. He simply can't do that well right now. We need to get him the ball off guard penetration or pick and rolls.

The problem is that our guards never look for Greg on the pick and rolls, part of which is his fault. If you watch him set a pick, half the time he doesn't even crash to the basket.

When he was 23, Wilt averaged 37 ppg 27 rpg. Will Oden be that good in two years? No. At this point, one can hope Oden will become Okafor, but I thought we were getting someone better than that when we drafted him.

Exactly. No one wants to admit that he's simply not very good. It sucks.

I love how you use two extremes as your measuring sticks, both of which are way off.

I don't know any reasonable fans who thought we were getting Wilt II, even BEFORE he missed a season due to injury. And I sure as hell don't know any reasonable fans who are ready to call him a bust halfway through his first season back from injury. Chill with the bipolar histrionics.

I'm amazed at how wrong this statement is. It must be at like 99.9% on the Wrongness Index. First of all, as indicated by your posts and others like them, apparently there are MANY fans willing to "admit" that he is not very good. Second, all of these kinds of posts are premature, shortsighted, and childish. If you will just relax your expectations for this one season and commit yourself to seeing the entire process as a slow learning curve, you just might enjoy watching the games a bit more. Stop over-analyzing box scores. Stop making "all or nothing" conclusions. (This board already gets enough of that.) Stop making too much of apparent periods of regression -- anyone who has ever worked with young people will tell you that they are natural.

And save the drama for yo mama.

Before Gregory starts refining his game, I think the kid needs to work hard to bring the energy at all times and be consistant, and then learn how to avoid getting in foul trouble.

I think those 2 things are holding him back right now. A lot of the problems with his game can be adressed in the off-season once he has it fully to work on his game and not rehab and take it slow. But I really feel like those 2 things can/should be taken care of by the end of the year. I would love Greg to have four 10 point 8 rebound games rather than two 15 and 11 games and then two 4 point 3 rebound games. But this is one of the things that comes with experience and will come with his development, which is a big reason why calling him a bust, or saying he was the wrong pick, or anything like that is too early right now.

If you spend a day on this forum, I think that it would be quite easy to tell which posters are the patient types in real life, and which are impatient and what the final result right now. Oden has disappointed me this year as well, but if you can't see the potential and the glimpses of very good play then I don't know what to say.

I'm talking about what has happened not some pretend world. When they've cleared out a side for him to go he hasn't converted at nearly the rate that he travels/charges/gets blocked/misses. I like him going one on one on the offensive boards as he's really effective there. He seems to play a lot more tentatively on the road as he's probably a bit gun shy from all the rookie whistles

Calling me childish is uncalled for.

I'm with you. I absolutely see glimpses of very good play. How can one not? He had 24 & 15 in a game. But like you said, you're disappointed. So am I. Isn't everyone? Did anyone expect a bunch of 3 pt 2 reb games? It's disappointing. It's ridiculous that I get bashed for expressing that.

Did anyone expect a bunch of 3 pt 2 reb games?

I did. I expected plenty of big games and plenty of awful games. I've seen rookies (even extremely talented ones) play before.

But I understand the mania. Lots of people are desperate for Oden to safely establish himself as a superstar, even though it won't happen this season and wasn't at all likely to.

I'm only disappointed in Greg insofar as he hasn't surprised me by exceeding my expectations. My feelings pretty much mirror Minstrel's, 20 year old rookie bigs with half a year of college and in Greg's case further exacerbated by sitting out for a full year can't be expected to dominate from the jump.

The only thing I see really holding Greg back are the silly fouls, once he gets that taken care of I see the rest of it taking care of itself.

I don't need him to dominate every game or be a superstar this year. I just want him to be active every game. Grab some rebounds. Block a shot or two. Affect a couple shots. I won't be upset if he does that. But when he does absolutely nothing, it's frustrating.

Oden turned the ball over two times in the first few minutes of the game by traveling when fed the ball in the post. This must be Nate's fault as well.

He's also the team's third leading scorer in this game and is seventh in minutes played in the game. Despite 0 fouls.

I think that's Nate's fault.

Greg has come back in with a focus and some energy. Love it! He's alive, he's alive!!! Look at what he's doing in spite of his coach killing his career! ;)

I don't agree with the thread title, but I'd rather Nate gave Oden more playing time when fouls aren't an issue. Oden's per-minute efficiency, for the season, is good. Oden does sometimes limit his own minutes with fouls...no need for Nate to limit them further, IMO. ;)
