Nate Robinson wants to be a Blazer (merged)

Overrated one-dimensional ego in tennis shoes.

Maybe he could spell Blaze at halftime?

You hate him? I can't think of more concrete proof that he's exactly what we need. Thanks for helping me make up my mind, I was kind of undecided and teetering on the fence before.

If Nate WANTS to come to Portland for a decent price, I'd be upset at KP if he didn't get him.

Nate Robinson would be a helluva backup guard for us. We so need a little fireplug like him. Perhaps we could do a sign and trade, and deal Sergio to NY for him.

Sure he's an "undersized SG". But the majority of PGs in he NBA are these days. He only averages one less assist per game than Steve Blake, and I"m sure he'd do a better job at staying with quicker guards.

We could sign both Robinson and Andre Miller. Let Robinson backup Miller for a few years, then when Miller retires, Bayless and Nate can battle it out for the starting position. Talk about a dynamic 1-2 punch in the back court. We could play some mean "small ball".

Great athlete. Tough mofo. Can just flat out torch people on offense. Roy likes him.

I'm begining to talk myself into this!

Nates a competitor I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Blazer uniform, although I would prefer to have some bigger off season signings than Nate.

Sounds like maybe Roy isn't too interested?

You're right it would definitely have to be more than just Nate Rob.

I'm trying to envision somehow trading for Kirk Hinrich, just so you'd have two completely different looks at the point available (yes I realize Robinson isn't really a point) and then maybe take Darren Collison as your third string backup/project/emergency depth point guard off the bench.

so with that nik that would involve trading bayless to chi city? thatd be scary especially if bayless gets as good as hes supposed to be

I'm kind of torn on Bayless. I absolutely think he's got great potential and I won't be shocked if he ends up having a very solid career (don't be surprised if we see him put up numbers like: 18pts/5asts/3.5rbds when he's around 25 or so) ... but I'm increasingly uncertain if he fits this team's window; that is to say can they afford to give him fits and flashes of playing time which will more than likely ensure a very slow and stunted growth curve, or can they live with the bumps and bruises it would take to let him play through his mistakes and find his way (likely costing the team victories in the near term)?

A lot of it comes down to what Jerryd would be satisfied with. Can he accept a fifteen minutes a night backup role for a couple more years when he's already shown himself to be hyper competitive and he'd be coming up on his Qualifying Offer/restricted free agency year by that time?

KP has some really tough choices ahead of him this summer.

Andre Miller / Nate Robinson
Brandon Roy / Rudy Fernandez
Greg Oden / Joel Przybilla
Gerald Wallace / Nicolas Batum
LaMarcus Aldridge / (Wallace)

Make it happen, KP!

How do the minutes work out?

Bayless would not sniff any playing time behind those two. No way would he stick around for when his time comes.

Bayless is up for the Qualifying offer in 2013...Andre Miller would probably be retired by then.

Nate is the kind of player I hate if they are on another team and love if they are a Blazer. If he wants to come to Portland, then I don't see why Portland wouldn't at least think about bringing him here.

Price tag would be the only reason I can think of. He went 17/4/4 in 30 mpg, and also won the dunk contest (gaining huge notoriety). I'd be surprised if he commands less than 5y, $35M in FA this year.

It's tough to say what his price would be in this year's down economy and dearth of teams with lots of capspace. My guess is that he'll end up with a deal closer to the MLE (roughly 5.5 million), say 4 years for 26 million. I think he'd be a bargain at that price -- for chrissakes, Martell got a 4 year deal worth 20 million on helluva lot less proven production.

If you can snag Nate for Sergio and a few 2nd rounders in a S&T then we should do it in a heartbeat. Even though I wouldn't necessarily like it, having Robinson makes giving up Bayless in a bigger splash deal, at the least, somewhat understandable.

The only thing I'm concerned about with Robinson is if his stats are skewed from his time in NY based on the style of ball they play. I tend to think it is slightly, but it still doesn't take away his "spark" that he seems to have on the floor.

Nate Robinson is a 5'8" version of what we want Jerryd Bayless to be.

Get'r done!

Good article. I would welcome Nate here if it still meant we could grow JB to be the PG of the future.
Miller seems like he'd fit like a glove, hopefully this comes to fruition.

Here's a kinda new article regurgitating pretty much everything that was already said, but it does into detail on Andre Miller as well.

The most interesting thing from that article, for me, was this: "I have learned that the Blazers had a deal in place for Miller at the deadline which would have sent Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw to Philadelphia, but the deal was shut down by the Blazers at the last minute."

does KP really rate Outlaw that high that he wouldn't do that deal? Of course, then you gotta wonder why Philadelphia would have been willing to do that deal, maybe they don't value Miller that much?

Chrissakes, if this part is actually true ...

I have learned that the Blazers had a deal in place for Miller at the deadline which would have sent Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw to Philadelphia, but the deal was shut down by the Blazers at the last minute.

That makes Niko a sad panda.

I wonder if it's really accurate that Portland has no interest in him. I say ditch Blake and Sergio and bring on Nate and Miller. Nate Robinson is a little stud. Dynamite in a bottle!

Regarding the supposed trade on the table at the deadline...that cost us the series with Houston if true.

The thing that would make all these details fit is that Philadelphia wanted something more and Pritchard said no.

There were reports of Vince Carter and Gerald Wallace being available cheap...and then later it was revealed that New Jersey and Charlotte wanted Batum.

Let's not forget that Nate may have had a higher comfort level with Blake than bringing in Miller mid-season. He's veroed things in the past...KP trusts his judgment.
