Honest question

Cool. Non-snarky answer forthcoming.

You mention getting their physical body to match their reality, but why not get their mentality to match reality? At what point is it simply I think I'm a girl so cut my penis off, rather than I have a penis, so I should get help to think differently?

Well, many people do just that. There are counseling services and "Pray away the gay" camps and books to read and all kinds of things to do to try to just that. The old fashioned method is suppression. I think that as a society, most of us have the general opinion that suppressing who you are is akin to living a lie and it causes anxiety, depression and other issues. Today, people have the option of "coming out" and living the way they want to live. So why not do it? Because it makes some people feel uncomfortable?

I am not saying it's the same because I really don't know, but people who believe they are something they aren't is a mental disorder and they are counselled to help them. Why is this different?

Traditionally, gender is thought of as binary. In my generation, this mindset is fading, much to the chagrin of conservatives and traditionalists everywhere. We are starting to think of gender as a bit more mailable than that. If you think you're a toaster, then that is a problem. You're obviously a human. Gender and sexuality are not obvious. It's not outside of the realm of biology to be intersex, or move from one gender to another. There is no reason humans are exempt.

So what you're saying is that the sex of "the person in question" is male, but the gender is female?

Gender isn't about biology. Sex is. You're just refusing to learn something new.

to be fair Hoo, there are several schools of thought. To be rigid about only one makes you no more right than someone else. From all of the reading I have done just tody, I think there is an acceptable amount of correct in all of the theories.

I think the English language needs a few new words and clarifications. But El Pres, no matter which definition you choose, remember these are actual people, and they aren't harming anyone.

Well, until they're swinging their big dicks around the shower room at the local pool's women's locker room.

Generally, I won't care, they can do whatever the fuck they want, I just don't recognize them as their "claimed gender" when clearly they are something else.

I think el pres got more than he bargained for at Darcell's. :MARIS61:

And you're just completely fabricating a bunch of new age crap to normalize deviant behavior.

I'm not making this up. I'm telling you what the adults are talking about in the other room.

"Normalize deviant behavior?" Don't you live in LA? Since when are you an 85 year old man?

Thank you massa, I'm so sorry to be interrupting your talk massa.

That would just ruin it for you, wouldn't it?

That's fine. Be that guy. Just don't be surprised when the rest of society passes you by.

By the way, honest question, have you ever met or talked to a transgendered person? Have you been in the situation where you aren't sure, or are asked to use a different pronoun? If not, what would you do?

It really goes no further than my personal feelings and internal opinion, of course I'm really good at putting a nice outside cover and bullshitting people to hearing what they want to hear.

I've worked with trannies as clients. Being in the Plastic Surgery biz you deal with that. If they want to be called "Miss XXXX" I'll call them Miss XXXX. Not that big of a deal.

That fine. And if you just don't wanna think about it, that's fine too. I'mma call out ignorance when I see it though.

why does it matter so much to you, that you have to continually make that point?

People don't seem to get that little fact. When I'm being called out, you naturally want to bring up your point.

Gender isn't about biology. Sex is. You're just refusing to learn something new.

I remember explaining this to a young co-ed while an undergrad. I waited until my senior year to take Soc 101, but was well aware of the difference between gender and sex. Which is why, by the way, I don't buy the reasons given for gender identity to be given the same rights as sexual identity.

Yeah, but why do you care what someone else wants to be referred to?

I'm reminded of a joke from Newsradio.

Beth: All dogs are male, all cats are female.
Lisa Miller: Daisy is most definitely, and I mean definitely, a girl.
Max Lewis: We're not disputing that. It's not a matter of sex, it's a matter of gender.
Lisa Miller: Sex and gender are the same thing.
Max Lewis: Not so. I definitely prefer sex to gender.
Lisa Miller: Well, seeing as you have neither, that must be very sad for you.

I don't really care. I'm just being right, people are bringing up erroneous points and I'm here to correct them.

you're stating your opinion, in which doesn't carry any weight. So who cares?
