Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

A couple of under the radar PG prospects that POR might be considering:

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Charles-Jenkins-6189/

Good size (6'3) but what I really like is his ability to score 1v1 (a weakness on current POR team IMO), his ability to ctach and shoot (another BIG weakness on POR...shooters) and ability to use the pick and roll.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Reggie-Jackson-6325/

Good size (6'3), freakish wingspan, good athleticism, improved shooter, good defender

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Darius-Morris-6343/

great size (6'4) and strength, good PG instincts, good finisher\mid range game

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Jimmer Fredette is now projected by many to go in the top-10.

This made me think, what if Luke Babbitt were in this draft, where would he go? His numbers coming into last years draft were very good.

6'8.75" | 6'11.25" Wingspan | 37.5" Vert

22 PPG | 9 RPG | 50 FG% | 40 3PT% | 90 FT%

This draft blows after the top-2 picks.

Yeah, I agree. The thing I keep thinking though is that A) I dont like Jimmers game as a whole, but if Nate insists that he camp someone on the wing to loft up threes, might as well have someone that can make them. Jimmer is a pure shooter.

B) Yeah, his stock is pretty high at the moment. But I have to think that most teams see him as a weakness rather than a strength. The guy has zero D. If you are in the lottery there are better all around players. I can see Portland getting this guy if they wanted, Jimmer falls low enough or we buy our way up.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

If the Blazers end up with a draft pick this year, IMO they will have failed.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Wow...

Patience. GMs just want a closer look. I bet after Chicago he's top 3. RT @mhaubs: Surprised Biyombo behind Kemba/BKnight

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

I like Josh Selby a lot as a PG who might be around where were going to pick.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Hardy har har!

You disagree with that? The 21st pick in one of the weakest drafts in recent memory is hardly a way to get better. Then again I could also be jaded because our last several drafts have brought all but nothing to the team.

Rondo was a 20 something pick in a weak draft.

There's always a chance of getting a good player. If you don't swing you can't hit a home run.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Terrence Jones is headed back to Kentucky.

A scary weak draft just got weaker.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

I don't know if we should buy this Biyombo hype. He reminds me of Johan Petro.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

I think I would like to target two 2nd rounders.

1) Jon Diebler, OSU, deadeye shooter, can't do much else. This team struggles when they can't hit any outside shots. As a 2nd rounder, he's not a bad gamble in my opinion.

2) Isaiah Thomas -- an undersized but athletic PG with some moxie. I think this player could be special, but doesn't have the physical game and will probably scare off some GM's as a wasted pick. These are not sexy picks but i think they could fill some roles and we can trade out of the 1st round and still get one of these players.

Is this Isaiah Thomas's son?

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Nope. But namesake, I believe.

Yeah he was named after Zeke, but his mom changed his name for the biblical spelling. Living in Seattle, this kid is talked about a lot. He has a herky jerky style. For a one and done kid he showed a lot of leadership, which is what you look for in your PG.

This video here is very Roy like in a huge moment.

Little man is a rising senior.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

yeah, I think Tony Wroten Jr. better hope that he can finish the season before the NCAA catches up to him for, uh, "questionable" curricular policy in HS.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Thomas, who came in at 5'10.5" w/shoes at the NJ camp, kind of intrigues me. Similar size to JJ Barea, hopefully he can find his niche too.

Is there a link to where he got that measurement? I have a really hard time believing that.

Whoa, this surprises me. I thought he was closer to 5'6" or so. Maybe his shoes have lifts in them! As a UW alum, I love him as a college player, but not sure about his pro prospects. I wouldn't mind using a 2nd rounder on him though. Him leaving early wasn't too big a deal with Tony Wroton coming in, but as BrianinWA alluded to, he may have some eligibility issues, which makes me wish Thomas would have come back for one last year. Oh well.

Last summer Jason Terry compared Isiah Thomas to another 5'10" guard:

I'd say its an accurate comparison. Except Thomas is much stronger and more athletic than Stoudamire. But, both are crafty with the left and use the mid range game a lot.

We may have to trade up a tad but I like this guy:

The best defensive player in college. The Anti-Babbitt.

Why? Damon was really good when his head was in the game. Actually one of the "Laker killers" too.

I couldn't stand his approach to the game: dribble 20 seconds off the clock, and then either chuck up a three, or make a flaming bag pass. On a good night, he might play catch with another perimeter player - but he never worked the ball inside until it was too late in the shot clock.

Calling him a "point guard" was an insult to the English language. :smiley-whatever:
