Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Could He Be the Next Rodman?

LINK - Wall Street Journal

Does Faried project to be a great defender? Because while Rodman was known as a rebounder, he derived a huge amount of his value as an all-world defender. (Rodman was also underrated as a smart offensive player. He couldn't score beyond basic put-backs, but he was a smart passer in the Bulls' triangle offense.)

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

So Kanter's most recent basketball he barely played off the bench in the Turkish Basketball League and he might go number 1? What the fuck?

I think his absolute ceiling is #3 to Utah. DX has him going 6th to the Wiz at the moment.

Alec Burks is one of the guys I think is worth trading up for. His projected to go 12th right now to Utah, but I think he's a top 5 player in this draft.

Has a true position in the NBA in a draft filled with tweeners. Good ball-handler and passer with already a great feel and pace to his game at 19. Not a great shooter at Colorado but showed decent mechanics, just needs to add strength and balance which should help him mainly when shooting off the dribble.

A knack for rebounding the ball and has the leaping ability and length to grab rebounds in traffic and even more valuable since his ball handling and court vision give him the ability to lead a fast break the other way.

The knock against him aside from his spotty shooting is the lack of effort defensively. He had the quickness and length to be a disruptor at times at the college level, but he will definitely have to up his focus and intensity if he wants to see a lot of minutes his rookie year.

Not sure where he fits with the roster at this point though.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

DXpress updated their comparison for Bismack Biyombo and it's almost as bad as when they compared Andrew Bynum to Shaq:

Bismack Biyombo - Best case: 6'9" Dwight Howard

o0

Someone ought to let DX know that Dwight Howard actually is 6'9"

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

He's 6'9" barefoot. Basketball players play in shoes. He was measured at 6'10.25" in shoes.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Bismack and Dwight are only an inch apart. Not much of a difference at all.

They might as well have said a "6-9 Dikembe Mutombo"

Hell, to further your point, As long as they have adequate height and bulk, it's really more about standing reach, vertical jump and how much of a quick-twitch athlete a guy is that determines a player's ability to play "goalie" around the rim. If Biyombo is being favorably compared to dwight, I'm guessing he's got some of those essential traits in his DNA.

He reminds me of less-freakish Oden.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Kemba Walker canceled his workout with Sacramento today.

Hmm......

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

"Hmm" What? I don't think that means anything ...

In Portland's case, no but I think it shows that Kemba / his agent doesn't want him to be picked by them, and I think it's the right call. Walker is a terrible fit with Evans.

Don't think Sacramento picks him even if he did workout for them though.

I see the Kings ending up with either Knight or Biyombo.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Maybe he got a promise from someone picking in the top 6.

Can't be WAS (6). Maybe it's TOR (5).

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Just thinking out loud here, curious what you guys'd think about this idea...

-Batum & our 2012 pick (top 20 protected) to MIN for Brandon Knight (would have to be drafted for us at #2) and Wayne Ellington.
--Kahn expressed a lot of interest in Batum last draft, and at his age he's easily better than what's available to Minny via draft. Also, if they're serious about trading for Nash, they'll have to include Wesley Johnson, and Batum would be an upgrade at that spot. We bring in our PGOTF and a shooter off the bench to (hopefully) do what Rudy could not.

-Miller, Rudy & Bayless TPE for Rip Hamilton & Bismack Biyombo (drafted at #8)
--We take advantage of Detroit needing to move Rip, give them a younger player who COULD be a similar player if he ever gets his head right. We bring in a vet SG who could either be valuable at the trade deadline or in our own lineup, provides depth by letting Wes come off the bench at the 2 or 3, and a great backup Big who may/may not have a lot of upside. Regardless of how old he really is, he's what we need behind LA.

-#21 & PA's $ to Washington for Chris Singleton (drafted at #17)...
--Washington has a lot of young players already and w/ this being their 2nd pick, they'll likely go w/ a project or a Eurostash anyway. We move up to get the best value in the draft - CS would replace Nic's D off the bench right away and be a great understudy to Crash.

Roy (or FAPG if we Amnesty him)/Knight/EWill
Rip/Matthews/Ellington/Ewill
Crash/Matthews/Singleton
LA/B-Smack
Camby/Oden/CJ

To me this is a win now/win later look... Possible? - Questionable, I admit. I like the look of things though.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

We are not going to trade for three rookies. Maybe if Cho were still here and in charge, since he hinted at wanting to start over, but there's no way in hell that happens now.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Honestly, I think the steal of the draft is going to be Josh Selby. Things went to shit at Kansas, but he has all the talent that an explosive scoring PG can have. He obviously needs to tighten up his decision-making and such, but I personally think he's going to make an ASG or two. Not to mention he is going to be taken right around the 20's.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

It might not be but if he really did it would be odd considering Sacramento is in need of a PG and picks within his range (#3-#9)

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

apparently MBrooks was "injured" during NYKs workout, sat out in Charlotte...sounds like a Guarantee to you?

Well it looks like Kemba has re-scheduled with the Kings.

Chad Ford
Kemba Walker still working out for Kings. Just had schedule change. He's in Sacramento on 13th & Utah on 15th.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Givoni's Yahoo Mock Draft is now up. Some tidbits:

The team has reportedly narrowed down their choices to Williams and Enes Kanter at the moment, but it has also been calling around the league recently to see what this pick might yield via trade, asking particularly for a "veteran big man." It's likely that Williams will be the one taken since he is the consensus second-best talent in this draft, according to NBA decision makers. If Minnesota keeps the pick and indeed selects Williams, sources say the Timberwolves will look to move Michael Beasley(notes) as they try to improve the "culture of the team."

Vucevic is one of the fastest rising prospects in the draft, thanks to an outstanding weekend at the NBA combine. In a weak class at his position and with 37-year-old Marcus Camby(notes) the only center guaranteed to be on Portland's roster next season, Vucevic could provide the team with some solid depth.

The Jazz are still far from making a final decision here, and probably won't for a while until they get to see all the main candidates in person (Knight, Enes Kanter, Kemba Walker, Jonas Valanciunas and Bismack Biyombo). For now, most NBA people have Knight penciled in here. Guard is a huge position of need for the Jazz and Knight is considered the most talented one after Irving.
The team is also actively exploring trade opportunities, namely for a proven starting point guard. It's an indication that things are still wide open at this pick.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Wow, if Washington drafts Kanter, we should throw whatever we have to throw at them to get McGee

I would guess they'd just play the two of them together, and want to dump Blatche.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

If Burks or Vesely drop that far, I think we should try to make a move to get them.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

True. I remember readin glast year that one of McGee or Blatche would be moved. I think if there is even a chance, Portland should throw Batum, #21, Williams, Miller's non guaranteed or whatever for McGee and a bad contract like Lewis'.

Batum, Miller and Camby for Lewis and McGee works? Most will thinkit's too much to give up, but McGee has a chance to be really good. Start the process like a bandaid.....Just rip

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

If they can get Kanter, though I love Batum, a Batum-McGree trade would probably be good value for each team. But again, I think they'd just run the two together. Kanter operate on the low block, and McGee flying in for offensive rebounds. Kanter playing man D on opponents best post player, with McGee providing help, shot blocking d. Would be a good pairing.

I certainly wouldn't mind a forward rotation of Wallace/Lewis/Aldridge, with McGee (& maybe Oden?) at center.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

That would allow us to have some parts for a consolidation trade to upgrade from Patty/Armon at starting PG. :)

Calm down, you are offering way too much for McGee, get a hold of yourself man
